1970s Nissan Sunny Truck
Rbray47 replied to Spottedlaurel's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Looks great. I've known about this kit, but never gave it much thought. What color yellow did you use? My Hilux was almost the same shade. -
I was early for a family engagement yesterday. Stopped off to kill some time. Yep, those are the prices I paid.

I'll be buying another one just for the wheels, as they'd look good on a 90s ranger or s10. Right now I'm building the TV car, but the next one end up as beater with a hopped up engine.

Dang, that looks good.

Revell 64 Impala has a power glide, if I'm remembering correctly.

1940 Ford Pickup Street Rod

I dont know...if a woman were to post that...I might be tempted to visualize it lol -
I was waiting for someone to do a WIP thread on this kit, but I'm impatient, so here goes... My wife is a huge fan of the show, and like an idiot, I told her about this kit when it was first announced. She's been after me ever since to get one and build it. Ofcourse, she wants it as accurate as possible. I started by smoothing out the body (it had a few scratches and gouges, I guess AMT's chicom workers weren't happy about getting back to the factory) I've already laid down some Testors black lacquer. Next I filled in the mounting hole for the console since obviously this car wont have one, and the bench seat only covers the rear mounting hole. I also filled in the rear seat speaker and rounded the edges of the bottom cushion. I wont correct the pattern to match the front, she wont notice hehe. Last pic shows the powerplant swap with the Amt 70 Monte Carlo. The 454/TH400 seems to fit fine. I haven't messed with the exhaust or driveshaft, so I'll worry about that after the rest of the chassis is painted and assembled. Also, I'll be coloring the valve covers with a Molotow pen. The engine as you see it is how I pulled it from the Monte kit (previously started) I'm not going to get too carried away with detailing, aside from fixing the obvious errors.

I dont remember any issues with mine, but since I was dealing with brittle plastic that didnt want to take glue, I could've forgotten. -
Ooh...my wife is gonna hate that. She bought ours from ebay at nearly $40 shipped. Side note: who's going to be the first to do a WIP thread?
-
My kit arrived today. The body has several scratches and gouges on it. The long one across the roof sanded away without much effort. The one on the front passenger door goes a little deeper and goes through the side trim. It will have to have filler.

I had a 77 Caprice and Impala 2 dr. They were tied for the 2nd most comfortable cars I've owned (first was a 77 LTD 2 dr)
-
I love that look, and yours look awesome. Hmmm...now I need to plan a late 80s pastel build.
-
You're correct. The 68 I learned in belonged to my brother. His daily drivers vary, but his 2nd vehicle is almost always a 68 Impala, Belair, or Biscayne. His preference probably goes back to when dad bought a 68 impala new. I'm also probably in the tiny minority here who doesn't like 55-56 Chevies. 57s are fine, but I think the previous 2 model years were unattractive.
-
I was taught to drive in a 68. 1968 redeemed and refined the homely 67 and gave it the proper shape and amount of taillights lol
-
I assume you work on/around the show? You probably have loads of info about the cars, not just the engines used. I like the show at times (far from love it) but it's just about my wife's favorite show, and she wants me to build the car as close to accurate as possible. Personally, I think 67 was the ugliest year Impala of them all, but we all do things for our wives we wouldn't normally do. I'd rather have Dean's 1911 than his car lol
-
I remember one episode where the hood was up. The engine was clearly a big block. However, I also remember a different episode where Dean "went back in time" and part of that episode included talking his own father into buying the car. One of his selling points was that the car had a "327 4bbl". Revell's 64 Impala has a fairly good 327/PG. The early episodes also had the car equipped with steelies and dog dish caps. So, if one were to build the kit accurate to the show, there are still plenty of options.

The 396/th400 sounds like a good swap, I might try that when I get my kit. Either that, or the 454/th400 from the 70 monte carlo.

I dig it! I like those old Monogram kits.
-
That's the Hemi I'm trying to use. My kit was the "Maverick" car that is black and yellow in the box. Basically all Lindberg did was add a set of hemi heads to the wedge engine. The intake didnt fit right and had to be trimmed, but I think it'll turn out ok.
-
Ok, so I bought a Duster. I used the Duster's 340 in my Dodge 330. Now, what to do with the Duster? Anyone ever put a Hemi in a Duster? I think I can make it fit lol
-
I like where you're going with this.
-
Nice build. I built the road car nearly 20 years ago. Yours turned out much better.
-
I remember those colors lol I was about 7 when I started building models. After about 4 snappers, I thought I was ready for a glue kit. My older brother took me to pick one out and I was drawn to Amt's 55 Nomad. The shrink wrap was already gone, so he popped it open. That horrible beige immediately turned me off of Amt for a while. I bought a Monogram molded in a normal color instead.
-
I'm about 95% finished with my second one. I managed to snag a 71 Duster kit to rob its 340. While it's not entirely accurate, it still looks really good. I raised the rear end and posed the front wheels. Since the 340 is a 4 speed, and the kit came with an automatic, I added the appropriate pedals and Hurst floor shifter. My kit came from Ollie's a while back when they had them for $8. Unfortunately, mine didnt have any tires. The fronts are Revell of some sort with Chevrolet rims. Rears are extras from the Amt 330 kit with M&H slicks.

I build a lot of kits because my wife likes the 1:1. Once she figures out there's a 65 GTO coming out, I'll have to build it. But since it's going to have a nice set of Hurst mags for my projects, I dont mind this time.
