No progress pics on this phone. I built it about 5 years ago. -
78 Ford F100
Rbray47 replied to Rbray47's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks! The grill conversion was fairly easy. I dug through my parts box until I found a pair of round headlights that looked to be the appropriate size. 30s-40s vehicles usually have decent ones. Next I drilled out the molded-in square lights to fit the new round set, then paint the bezels black. -
A few new Round 2 kit coming out ......

Be sure to build Not Sure's little "truck" to go with it. -
I think I'll use this old Datsun. I got it in a box of built-ups. The original plan was to restore it, but as luck would have it, they reissued it. After disassembling it a few years ago, I seem to have lost some of the parts. I guess that's what the parts box is for.

It might be too cold for real work today. I'm going to dig out that Camaro, and maybe the Chrysler 300 as well. Who knows, I might find something more interesting.

Beautiful car. I like that it has a 383 instead of a hemi.
-
Wow, that looks good.

I got one of those amt Camaro concept cars from Ollie's. Might see what I can do with it.

I built this as a work-in-progress parts runner. Its powered by a Latham supercharged Buick nailhead. The red paint is supposed to be the "finished" parts, the rest is different shades of primer.

I might give it a shot. Always wanted to, but never got around to it.

'80s Monogram kits are pretty good kits
Rbray47 replied to JollySipper's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Being born in 79, my first building experiences were with most of the kits mentioned in this thread. I didnt mind back then about the molding colors, or the slightly larger 1/24 scaling. Actually I dont mind it now, in fact I prefer colored plastic. My eyes seem to pick up the details a little better (and feel less strained) when working with darker colors. I hate Revell's ultra bright white. I still buy original issues from ebay when I find them at a reasonable price. -
This ones a little dusty, apparently my display case has a leak somewhere... I combined the Firestone Ford with a 92 flareside kit. Converted to round 78 lights. I used the complete chassis from the 92, which only required a little bit of modification. The inner fenders and underhood of each truck were very different, so I found it easier to modify the cab to fit. The engine is the 92's 351 with a revell 302 intake and parts box supercharger with scratchbuilt mounts. Like my other Fords, the trim and drip rails were made with .020 styrene rod.

Had one, but didnt finish it. I dont think I have anywhere to put it now.

This is a replica of my dad's old truck. I changed the camper special wheelbase to get a regular 8 ft bed. Converted to round headlights and 77-up gas door. The hubcaps are Moebius, but the 300 six isnt. The block, head, intake, exhaust, and valve cover are scratchbuilt. Everything else is parts box items modified. The trans is from the revell 32 Ford kit.

79 Ford dually 4x4
Rbray47 replied to Rbray47's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks guys! Yeah, those are the kit tires (plus 2 more) These trucks take a lot of work to correctly replicate a 78/79. I got as close as I could, as the bumpers are wrong for these years. -
Built mostly out of the box, except for the little Edelbrock air cleaner, and the custom rims from the amt/mpc 69 Firebird (who knows why they included 6 lug wheels lol) Paint is Testors GM Flame Red. I built it to look like the 76 Toyota that my dad had when I was a kid.

Nice, I love it. -
Built from the Firestone kit. Scratchbuilt flatbed and 2" reciever. Monogram rims and 302 from the revell 32 Ford.

I built this from the Firestone Ford kit when I first got back into building about 5 years ago. I shortened and molded in the bed, making a closed-cab Bronco of sorts. A coworker gave me a box of trashed built-ups a few years ago. There were several monogram high rollers in there, so I used a set of wheels from one. The engine is a 390/4spd from the Amt 66 Fairlane, that I built around 01/02, and got broken during a move. The bumpers and D rings are all scratch built.

Pro Street Blazer
Rbray47 replied to Rbray47's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Here's a quick mockup. I got lot done over the weekend. Not everything is straight or aligned yet. The cage is started. The Blazer interior has been rough fitted to the Nova chassis. -
I hadn't noticed the flares until you mentioned them. I dont remember right off exactly what the motors looked like, but didnt they have a wide valve cover? Maybe use one Ford sohc 427 cover and modify it to fit another 4 cylinder.
-
I'll buy one for nostalgic sake. I used to drive a 76 until it rusted away. I wonder which donor kit has a good starting point for scratchbuilding the Isuzu i4?

Datsun pick up

I like this build a lot. Too bad no one kitted a Toyota from the same era. -

Nice truck! I had thought of doing a similar project. Not because I owned one, but because I tend to like lower trimmed trucks. The only thing that's kept me from it so far is the crazy intake on the 4.9.
