Very nice looking Chevelle. The white laid down very nicely. I always have difficulty laying down white paint as it's so thin. Nice job.

lovely job. Clean detail and I really like the colour! Loving the wheels.?
-
Love these unusual kits. Look forward to seeing your progress on this one?

Decided to go for a gold colour. I tried looking for as close a match to paint code GY8 but turned out a little lighter out of the can, but never mind, it's good enough for me. No primer needed. Stripping the old paint gave the surface a nice key for the new colour to stick to, and less layers means less detail being flooded, so that's good:) Floor pan overspray and sub frame were given a light dusting like the yellow I originally laid on so didn't really need stripping like the body.

This kit is probably the most "thrown in the trash" kit around! I can't knock it though cos I've built a few of them and love it. They need a ridiculous amount of work though. Until you've built the MPC charger, the phrase "Fit issue" means nothing anymore to whatever you build afterwards!?

Yes, nice colour! It depends what is available where I get my paint from. Exact matches for American cars are hard to come by in the UK.

BMF under or over clear coat?
doorsovdoon replied to Sidney Schwartz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've tried both ways and both look good to me, though I do prefer to do it after clear. Foil before paint on the scripts though is defo the way to go, though I'm still "in training" on that! -
Yeah, all good mate?. Paint fail is part of the hobby sometimes. When you posted that pic I did think 'Dang, I like that!' Lol. Green being my favourite colour and all!

Yes, glad I went with black on the interior. Gives me more colour options for sure.

Paint Strippers - What to Use?
doorsovdoon replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I couldn't find anything relating to the ingredients, although, on the paper instructions that came with the kit says it's suitable for leather and vinyl, vinyl basically being what model kits are made from. The paint run off the model like melting ice cream! The paint I use is aerosol cans from Halfords motor factors. It's a professional paint, so not like it was some cheap water based mix that comes off with water. I was well impressed! -
Paint Strippers - What to Use?
doorsovdoon replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I just discovered this. Solvent leather cleaner. I recently dyed my 1-1 car interior but didn't need to use all the kit. I tried it on a recent build and it took the paint off literally in seconds. The model was painted months ago, so was well cured but this stuff took it off as soon I put it in the tub! Checked it a few hours later to see if the plastic might have reacted or gone brittle, nope, perfect! -
Well, time for a colour change! ? Lol. For some reason the hood looked brighter than the rest of the car, so I gave the body another coat of paint and it did not react well to the fresh layer over months old paint! On the plus side, I did find an amazing paint stripper that doesn't melt plastic. Solvent leather cleaner. After a week in break fluid doing nothing I thought I'd try it. The paint fell off in seconds! So, new paint job coming soon. I might ditch the vinyl roof this time and keep it simple. Not sure what colour to go with yet though.

Fantastic detailing, and love the colour! I love reading through builds like this, gets the juices flowing! Makes me want to pick out an old AMT kit and make it a long term project full of detail and scratch building! Very nice work.? -
Got the interior painted and together minus the steering column, still on the sprue tree at the moment.

Thanks mate? I've missed being here. I haven't lost the bug, I couldn't help but buy the odd kit when browsing online for 1-1 car parts! lol ebay is a curse and a blessing!
-
Good to be back. Cheers, Dave. Thanks. It is, but my camera doesn't pick it up too well. Thanks. It was a difficult colour to lay down. Four coats before the primer wasn't visible!
-
Thanks buddy. The yellow was a pain to lay down. It's so transparent I almost stripped it as it's already got four layers on! Lol
-
Bought these on ebay the other week. I've been away from the scene for a while so I got these to get started again, and they were cheap! I plan to use the Corvette wire wheels on the Camaro and make a stock version, or as close to one.

It's been a while! How's everyone doing? I've had other priorities to deal with over the last few months but hopefully I should be back to my regular model building soon. I did a bit foil work on the Charger today but nothing further really to report on this one.

There is a series about this on Netflix called 'Clark' it's where the term "Stockholm syndrome" came from. It mentions the car in one of the later episodes.

Nice! My first car when I was 17, though mine was a four door with dog dish caps. still, just as much fun spinning those rear wheels!

Mack Cruise-Liner

Thanks, Mark. Yeah, I was going to go with green and white if I remember, but then I seen a brochure painting in this scheme and loved it so went with it. -
