The Sanibel lighthouse was a place I wanted to photograph next time I was in the area. When these photos popped up on my Facebook feed, I was in shock. Good to hear you made through OK.

Yep It pulled that section of sidewalk up. Oaks & Camphor trees are usually the first to go in a hurricane, their root system isn't very deep at all. At least not around here! I've been following the Ft. Myers news on FB. Ft. Myers Beach & Sanibel are absolutely destroyed. A lot of history gone, just mind boggling to see the photos. I hope Thomas Edison's & Henry Ford's houses escaped any serious damage. I considered moving down that way but just the traffic was a bit much for me.

What happened to Hendrix Resin? I've been looking for '55 Ford Fairlane Tudor Sedan body and a '56 Mainline Tudor body to duplicate 1:1 cars I used to own. I keep hitting dead ends when trying to find a source of these. I assume they are long out of production?

Made it through here in Polk Co. Got pretty windy towards the end. Never lost power but lost internet until a few minutes ago. Otherwise no damage. Even managed to work on a kit or two since I'm off work for a couple days!

I use primarily Tamiya TS-13 clear as it lays down nice. My usual schedule is: Let it dry for a few days before sanding. I'll start with 2000 then finish with 3000 or 5000 sanding wet with a drop of dish soap to keep the paper clean. (I've used this same process when color sanding 1:1 autos for years). I use 3M Trizact paper almost exclusively when color sanding. You can get it from any good automotive paint supply store or Amazon. I then polish with 3M hand glaze. It is a very very mild compound. You don't want anything aggressive since you sanded all the way to 5000. I prefer the 3M brand as it has no silicone or wax and I can foil and detail right over it. After foiling, etc I use a good carnauba wax. Here's a couple examples of the results using the process above.

What did you see on the road today?
RSchnell replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Saw lots of stuff out & about due to the impending storm. '54 Chevy pickup, couple of midyear Corvettes, etc. Only managed to get a pic of this older Land Rover and a Tesla mobile service van. Have not seen a Tesla service van before! -
Hope y'all in Florida stay safe and avoid any damage from the storm. I'm gonna ride it out here in Central FL...

I was really surprised to see the '70 and the Chevy pickup back on the shelf. The last time I stopped in the whole aisle was cleaned out. Just another mystery of HL I guess lol! The two stores here replaced the tin box Charger with the '53. Yours might do the same.

Had some time after lunch so I rode out a nearby industrial complex. Found a few goodies. You don't see many C4 Corvettes in the Bright Aqua Metallic. -
Stopped by Hobby Lobby on a whim and lucked upon 2 kits that the scalpers hadn't gotten. I bought the '53 Corvette more for the tin box than the kit, but I'll end up building it too.

Had some time to kill this morning so I rode out a few neighborhoods looking for vintage tin. You don't see many Sharknose Grahams out there, much less one covered in mildew. The '36 Ford pickup looked to be a daily driver. The Squarecab Ford and 60s International were in a rent-it warehouse area. The Galaxie tail lights are a nice touch on the Ford. -

Where is your LHS? I'm always up for a road trip to a good LHS! Here in Central FL it's pretty barren excepting for Colonial in Orlando and a couple over St. Pete/Clearwater way. Of course there's the Southland show Nov 19th. -
International Ford Model A Day
RSchnell replied to Sam I Am's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That was the first car I was old enough to have an active role in it's restoration- and the first car I painted. It was a grandfather/grandson project! At one point there were two A-400s here in town. The black & red car belonged to a friend & he drove the car to Alaska several times. -

Looks like early 2000's Chevy Monte Carlo to me..... -
My dad & grandfather both built models so I got an early start in the hobby. The first kit I remember building on my own was the old Monogram '29 Roadster Pickup part of the Early Iron series. I was 7 or 8. I got the AMT Diamond in the Rough set that Christmas and that really got me hooked. The first photo is my model cabinet when I was 9, in 1987. Since we had several 1:1 Model A Fords in the family I built a few of the old Hubley kits too. The other photo is a couple years later when I gave the program on model cars for the local antique car club my dad & grandfather founded. Monogram '53 Corvette, Monogram '58 Thunderbird, Monogram '32 Ford Roadster, AMT 1940 Ford Coupe, 1949 Ford Coupe & Italeri Bugatti Royale were the newest additions. The Stutz Bearcat on the turntable was built by my grandfather. I'd love to find another kit of that to replace this one.

I had the same reaction! Had to google it once I got home & even that took some digging to hit the right keywords! -

Saw one of these Polestar's the other day. I didn't know what it was at first! First & only time I've seen one on the road. -
International Ford Model A Day
RSchnell replied to Sam I Am's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've been involved with Model A Ford's my entire life and have never participated in Model A Day. It's just not a big thing down here. In fact it's rare to see any Model A's out on the road anymore. Here's a few Model A's I've restored for customers and myself over the years. -
I must've missed the clearance kits. Lots of empty holes where the discontinued kits were. Not a big loss but I could've used a couple more '70 Corvettes!

One of my all time favorite shows. Still watch it every night while I'm having supper!

Spotlight Hobbies, Wes' Model Car Corner, Scale Hobbyist get the majority of my business. Model Roundup is good as well, but their prices can be a bit higher than the other 3 I mentioned. I've had great service from all 4 places I've listed!
