  1. That is interesting but not surprising. Wouldn't the same issues manifest itself with other dark colors such as Marlboro Maroon or Bridgehampton Blue? C3's are a bit out of my wheelhouse. I'm more familiar with C1's. Been messing around with those close to 30 yrs now. No birdcage to rust out but they still leak like any other early Corvette. ?
  2. Picked up some more 1:1 C1 Corvette parts for a good price. The man just wanted to get rid of them and what I can't use I can use for trading stock.
  3. Even though I have 6 or 8 '56 Victoria kits, I'll probably get a couple more. I've owned 20+ 1:1 '55-56 Fords over the years. The rest doesn't do much for me, but nice to see a decent amount of kits being put out this month.
  4. 68 or 69 Corvette sitting in a driveway. You don't see many black early C3's!
  5. I got the same 403 message about 30 mins ago!
  6. Saw these VW van's yesterday while out running errands...
  7. The 1/32 '32 Ford has been reissued. I picked one up at HL a year or so ago. Wish I had grabbed two! My memory of the Diamond in the Rough '40 Ford is the same as Mark's. I wish they'd reissue the kit, I haven't built one since the one I got as a Christmas present in the 80s!
  8. A lot of the newer cars have electronic parking brakes. My 2019 VW has them, it's really no big deal as you can use a cheap scan tool to do it. What was a real eye opener for me was working at an independent European car shop. The test drives were always fun! It was nothing to check ride an M5 BMW & S63 AMG in the same day.
  9. Yesterday that '56 Chev Wagon, today saw this '58 Impala convert in the same area....
  10. Saw this '56 Chev Wagon at lunch time today. Not a fan of purple, but the car was clean!
  11. When I first got started in this hobby in the 80s I remember kits being around $7 or so at Kmart. Like others I have a very hard time paying $30+ for a kit that's been out since the 60s. I seldom buy kits from retailers anymore unless it's something I really want. Model shows/swaps is where I buy most of my kits anymore. For instance- AMT '58 Impala 1969 issue for $10, the new reissue is $38, AMT '56 Ford Crown Vic $5 the new reissue is probably the same $38. Revell Lincoln Futura reissue $10, etc etc etc. Not to mention it's more fun to dig around stacks of kits finding something you need! I can take $2-300 to a swap and leave with my car trunk overflowing, most of the time I leave with it full and still have money left over at the end of the show.
  12. I'm not a Mustang guy at all, but this kit looks tempting!
  13. I recently did some trading with Wick Humble & Steve Guthmiller. Everything went well and am pleased with both transactions. Great guys to deal with!
  14. Had business in Daytona Beach yesterday, saw quite a few things, but only managed to get a pic of this '70s style van. Something you don't see much on the road anymore! These two race car replicas were in a little building next to where I took the van photo.
  15. The guild was started in the 1930s if I recall. My grandfather participated in Guild back in the 1940s, entering several cars and one Napoleonic Coach. I have one of his model cars that won 1st place for the state of Florida in 1949. This car was made of plaster and still wears it's original paint. He told me stories of getting the all expense paid trip to Detroit courtesy of GM, the tour of the GM plant & proving grounds, etc. I have him to credit for my interest in scale models to this day. I'm curious if anyone knows anything about the Balboa concept model in the photo?
  16. Went to a local show this morning and picked up a few things. Nothing earth shattering, just a few good deals. Will post event photos in the show coverage section later today
  17. Saw this '66 Ford Convert in traffic with some sort of huge box in the trunk.
  18. The last ICM Model T I built I used bare metal foil on the radiator, Model Master Aluminum metalizer on the lights & firewall band. I then went over all these with a mix of Tamiya 80% Clear Yellow & 20% Clear orange. Not perfect but looks pretty close to me.
  19. If you have a NAPA Auto Parts near by- I've had good luck with their spray can primers. Huge 15oz can for $10-12. Sands nicely. I've sprayed 15-20 1/25 car bodies with the can I have and still have enough left for another 5-10. I've found this primer at Ollie's for $2.99 a can as well. I've also used Dupli-Color spray can primer with success.
  20. I agree with the above posts. The AS-21 is probably the closest match-the one between white & brown. It's interesting to note that original Ford Engine Green varied from batch to batch. I've restored many pre 1953 Fords & have had NOS Ford Model A & early V-8 parts and no 2 parts matched in color.
  21. I'd love to see the '62 Galaxie come back but sounds like it's gone too I still need a '62 Galaxie convert!
  22. Very nice! Refreshing to see a midyear with wheel covers instead of knock offs! I've always been a C1 guy, but there is something special about a midyear coupe!
  23. Nice clean build!!!!!
  24. Good info! Don't forget about the Monogram/Revell 1953 Corvette. It also has the carb setup, air cleaners & valve cover to build a '54. I'm finishing up one of these right now and prefer it over the old AMT 53-55 kits. The '53-55 AMT reissue promos lend themselves well to detailing. One year at the NCRS Winter Regional Show, the National Corvette Museum had several large boxes full of Corvette promos for $5 ea. I dug around in those boxes and found 4 53-55 promos, including a rare Pennant Blue one. I miss those days, and it wasn't all that long ago!
  25. Nice work! I like seeing unusual kits built and this is certainly one of them. ICM makes nice kits.
