What did you see on the road today?
RSchnell replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Saw a Mercedes badged "EQS 450". Never saw one before, come to find out it's one of the new all electric cars. Not something I'd drive, but I like seeing different stuff on the road. Pic for reference. -
That's going to be interesting to see how the higher prices affect sales, if at all. HL has lost it's novelty on me. Same kits, most of the time it's just pandemonium in the store. It's cheaper for me to pick up kits at my LHS than it is to go to HL even with the 40% off! Not to mention I get better service at the LHS.

Seems today was C3 Corvette day. Spotted the blue one while riding out some neighborhoods looking for cars, the orange '77 was a nice car. The '69 Ford Pickup is another from this morning. The '56 Chev is from a couple days ago. I do enjoy looking for vintage tin & fiberglass! -
I used to go to the Kissimmee Mecum auction back in the day when it was held in conjunction with the NCRS Winter Regional, once they moved the auction and it exploded in growth I quit going. Although I do only live about 45 mins from the auction site, maybe I'll take a ride over and see how it's changed. Thanks for the heads up!

I'm in Florida. I alternate between central Florida and the east coast of FL(Cocoa Beach) near the area where they launch rockets & formerly the Shuttle. That's why they call it the Space Coast. We don't have many shows in the summer as it gets too hot, but October-May is prime time show season in Florida! I don't hit up many cruise in/Cars & coffee type shows. I usually only go to ones with a swap meet so I can drag home more BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH I don't need. LOL

Behind you and the bench
RSchnell replied to KC FitiWerks's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is about 30% of my car/truck kits. This closet is about 5 feet away from my bench for easy access! The other kits are in another part of the house boxed up. -
Starting to get obsessed with 60s kits

Those aren't my builds, just a couple pics I grabbed from Google. Here's a couple I did. Sorry for derailing Jeff's thread! -
Starting to get obsessed with 60s kits
RSchnell replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've got a couple Cabriolets in the stash and a couple built ones already. Thinking about taking one of the Monogram '30 Model A Coupes I have and making it into a 30 Cabriolet. Here's a 30 & 31 for comparison. I've built a few 1:1 Cabriolets for customers. They're one of the more complicated Model A's to restore! The '29 & '30 Cabriolets had straight windshield while the '31s had the slant windshield amongst other improvements over the earlier ones. -
Krylon or Rust-Oleum for primer
RSchnell replied to Greg Myers's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm not a fan of Krylon or Rust-Oleum for models, stuff is too thick IMO. I used to use Dupli-color primer 80%, Tamiya for the other 20%. My local auto paint jobber gave me a can of this to try. So far I like it better than Dupli-color. Sands better than Tamiya and covers better than Dupli-color. I'll likely go back and pick up a can of black & white. -

Nice collection! I too enjoy building the older kits. I wish the Model A Cabriolet would get reissued. It's actually a '31 they have labeled as a '30. The slant windshield Cabriolet didn't come out until June of 1931. -

Packard Clipper, probably 1948 or so. You don't see many of those on the road! -
Atlantis Models has bought another lot of tooling/molds.....
RSchnell replied to Dave Van's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Any word on what happened to the '56 Buick that was supposed to be released? I sent an email to Atlantis & never heard back. I wonder if any of the '55/56 Mercury tooling survived. -
What did you see on the road today?
RSchnell replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Certainly one of the more odd/unusual things I've seen on the road. I had to look it up once I got home. Vixen motorhome. BMW diesel powered. I wish I could've got more pics but I had places to be, the rain didn't help either. The 2nd pic is from Wikipedia. -
I went to this last year and picked up some good deals. Well worth the visit!

This 356 Porsche snuck in the neighborhood. Spotted it this morning on my way to the grocery store... -
Hit up the swap this morning. Pics posted in the photo section if interested. Here's my haul from the show- Got the 2 promo/annuals and Jo-Han Caddy for $10. The Pontiac will probably wind up being a convertible as the top is warped pretty bad. The Galaxie needs a rear bumper and the Caddy a top boot, but no complaints at what I paid. The Lindberg Phaeton is an absolutely crude mass of styrene of a kit but for $1 the box art is cool! The Hubley Packard & Corvette were priced too reasonably to pass up as well! Even bought some 1:1 parts which was nice.

X2 for the '62 Galaxie! To further the point, AMT has issued 1960, 1961, 1963, 1964, 1965 Galaxies in the past several years. We need a '62 to fill that gap!

RSchnell replied to Dave Van's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Even though I have most of the Monogram Classics series-most of them I picked up at swap meets for $10-15, I'd buy a few more if they were reissued. I've had the pleasure to work on 1:1 Packards, Lincolns of that era which makes me appreciate the kits even more. Then again I've always been a pre war car guy with some dabbling in 50s cars & C1 Corvettes. -
Stopped by HL on my way home to see if they had any of the '53 Ford pickup w/ trailer. They didn't, but scored another Revell Porsche that was mispriced. For $16 I couldn't pass it up. Hitting up a car swap meet in the morning, hoping I can unearth a few treasures there.....
