Yeah I know, this is a strange one... or maybe not so much. So, from time to time I’ll be dreaming that I’m out cruising around at night in some seriously cool car. I first notice this because of the way other people are looking at me as they drive past. Then it slowly sinks in... “Whoa, I’m driving around in my plastic 71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda convertible!” But the cool part is I’m the only one that knows they’re not actually real cars, so I start thinking during my dream... “Hmm, what else do I have at home that I can bring out here?” This made me wonder, has anyone else had these kind of dreams or am I just a kook?

Cool model Rex. Looks like you got that color right on the money! I think they look to have some nice detail to them

So you built a Gunze Daytona? What are your impressions of it... like a Tamiya, Revell?

Welcome aboard Graeme!

I want one so baaad! But the two kits I saw on eBay are from France and England. I’m really reluctant to have such a fragile item shipped from so far away. They’re too expensive for that risk... Ugh!

Thank you Chris! Hope all is going well way over in South Africa!

Thank you everyone for the helpful info here. Hopefully I can get my hands on one of these! I’m surprised Revell hasn’t come out with a kit since Gunze did it you’d think they could somehow acquire the rights to copy it. It would undoubtedly be a good seller. Perhaps part of the problem is that Shelby American produced so few of them in real life, (like 9 or something), that it’s next to impossible to get accurate schematics. I don’t know, just guessing. The Gunze looks pretty well done though.

Hey Charles, welcome! This is a cool place to show your stuff and learn all kinds of new things and see some ridiculously fabulous talent and skill. I too just joined a couple weeks back and so far love it! Hey I’m from just north of you in Wyoming bro! Josh

Oh yes! I am interested in that Gunze Sangyo kit if it is not a fortune. How/where do I acquire this?? A brief search on the web shows they are no longer produced.

Daniel, I thank you for your compliments! The paint is waterborne done with airbrush and was my first time mixing my own color, plus using waterborne, plus using an airbrush on a model, so it took some trial and error before I got it right. The clear actually comes out more dull than what you see and has to be polished out. At first I hated it, but now after some experience I am really beginning to appreciate how workable it is.

Hi all... I’ve been searching eBay for a 1/24 scale Shelby Daytona Coupe plastic model kit so I can build and add to my Shelby collection. It must be 1/24 scale. If anyone knows of a manufacturer that produces these please tell. Thanks!

Thanks so much Tim... I really tried hard to get the paint right. PS: I’ve been keeping an eye on your WIP Maverick. Incredible stuff!!

Go to a dollar store or clearance isle and look for a cheap product with nice clear plastic packaging that you can cut windows out of.

I did a tutorial on this sight just recently, part of which shows what I use for seatbelt material and also how to make your own buckles. It’s titled ‘Chrome vinyl details from scratch’ in case you’d like to check it out.

Very, very nice. Very realistic and paint/graphics look perfect! Is this a 1/24 Revell kit with modifications? -

Nuts...incredible...awesome! -
Correct. They might not have the exact same one that I used in the photos, but as long as it is no thicker than a piece of notebook paper and has an actual chrome-like finish, you should be able to get almost the same, if not the exact same results.

Two Ford GT40's
Venom replied to Rich Chernosky's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Agreed totally Rich. Most of the time I like to make my cars my own way rather than trying to duplicate a dead ringer to a historic real car. Funny thing is, that when I purchased this model my intent was to paint it up in the livery of the blue #1 car that Ken Miles drove that year, and I must have looked through at least 100 photos as well. But then at one point I saw a red one with #3 on it and loved it so much that I painted it red, but I tried some experimental clearcoat and it went on horribly so I cleaned everything down to bare plastic again and the more I saw the pics of the gold one the more I liked it the most, so that’s what I went with. So far it’s not been a disappointment, but as with most models it’s had its hurdles. -
I’m not sure, but I know they use it on billboards, police cars, etc. but there are at least a few different variations of the chrome vinyl. Some of it is a bit more flexible, but that kind is usually too thick for 1/24 scale and it is not as much of a ‘mirror’ finish. The one I look for is like a perfect mirror and it is no thicker than a piece of notebook paper. It has zero twistable flex, but will wrap around some things. It is sticky on the backside. One of the sign companies said they order all their vinyl from fellers.com, so that may by a possible option too. Thanks!

Two Ford GT40's
Venom replied to Rich Chernosky's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
That’s nice Rich! I would’ve done the decals on mine but they were real old and yellowed and very brittle, so I’m having to paint everything. Lot of work! I was able to find the lower door stripes on eBay so those aren’t painted. For me, the hardest part was trying to match the nose color. I think I finally nailed it. Also, in replicating mine, I’m not following all the cues of the early vintage pictures, rather I’m going by some great photos I found on the web where it shows it for the Sotheby’s Auction such as below. There are some apparent variations on the way it currently sits as compared to 1966 and so on.
