Doyusha 1/12 Porsche 911 V8 TwinTurbo
The Creative Explorer replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in WIP: Model Cars
If I still have some time left, I will make the targa roof, it will be huge and replace basically the whole roof Another angle, this will show how much higher the F40 engine is. I told in the contest-thread about the work I have to redo because of the previous owner, i started here on filling the bumper, and from there on, I will add some vents. Perhaps RS-Style One reason why the engine is so long, is because the diff is build in, due to it's place in the F40, since we don't need the diff here... We omitt it, and shorten the gearbox -

The Porsche 911 V8 TwinTurbo! I haven't been working on a big-scale's for a long time (with exception to the Citroen DS, which is a bad, bad, bad kit) I haven't been over here either. But recently I started to look again and I noticed the SMC Contest, which I thought was a good excuse to start on a new big-scale project. I was planning a big scale for 2012 and I just start a little earlier, I hope I can finish this one on time. It was hard to decide what to do with this kit, I choose this kit, since it has some nice details to it and it is a good exercise for my 1/12 Tamiya's. Since I do tend to make something different, I wanted to do something custom. But I found that it is hard to make something different, I kept looking through a lot of Google images of one-off 911's, custom-911's and concepts, but could not find that what I was looking for. Then I had the idea to put a different engine in the 911, but stopped quickly, because I did not had a good engine for this idea. In the end I thought it would be cool to modernise the Porsche, give it a modern Targa roof and maybe some custom parts. Then I remembered I got a bag of 1/12 parts at the Revell factory in Germany and browsed through that bag, I found myself a almost complete Ferrari F40 engine and from there on, things finally took a good course and I could start. The idea now is to fit the F40 engine in the front of the Porsche and make the first good-handling 911 ever ;-) Let the pictures do some talking too: The boxart: And the first problem is slightly noticable, the nose of the 911, is not meant for such a big/high engine It is also coming way too much into the interior Even though the seats will fit somewhat next to it, it is not realistic -

The floorpan got cut-out, to give me there some room for the engine as well, I can now place it a little bit lower, I can use every single mm I can find. -

Vallejo paints
The Creative Explorer replied to brad4321's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I basically use them exclusively for the 'part-department', seats, engine, chassis, suspension, it is so easy to do with Vallejo. For the body I use Auto-Air acrylics and Zero paints, but that has more to do with available colors. -
PAINT CONFESSIONAL
The Creative Explorer replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I go with ideas per project, I keep imagining colors on the car till I find a combination that suits the project. In a rare occaission, especially when I go with a radical paint-scheme, I use photoshop. But mostly in my head. This is also how my nick got born, since I tend to find new ways and try not to follow existing style's. When I have the colors in my head, I order them, choose them from stock or mix them. Depends on the situation and what kind of paint I want to use. -
Thanks guys! @ Terry; just grab this kit, it ain't superdetailed, it ain't accurate, but for sure it is fun!

And the second, I think I will continue tomorrow on the body

The idea is to make a weathered hotrod from Edwin Rommel. The kit I am using is the well-known re-issue of Rommel's Rod. I finally have all the ingredients I will be using and the guts to work on it. I started yesterday and worked on the body, I applied some heavy rust and rustholes and then some bulletholes . Today I applied a layer of primer and some coats of rustcolor. This is the car with a coat of primer And the first coat of rust

And it is finished, besides the bodywork/paintjob, I was able to make this model within a month or 2, which is unusual for me. But I do like how the outcome is, it has a nice look to it, the colors look right and I liked putting in all the little details. The final pictures:

1966 Chevelle Wagon ProStreet Custom
The Creative Explorer replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in WIP: Model Cars
It is the final countdown.....I mean Update Basically all the work is done, the last little tidious things were quickly done. Most challenging was the inlet-scoop. The ProStreet kit was with 2 separate funnels, but the look didn't appeal to me. So I decided to find something different. Which was harder then I thought. I went through my spareparts over and over, until I finally found something, a supercharger scoop of an old (AMT?) engine. It was poorly detailled and in not so good shape. First I opened the opening on the front, than I sanded it down, until it fit underneath the hood and filled the seams and scratches with filler. I then sprayed it in gloss black and added a little pinstripe, just because. I think the outcome does match the car and fits nicely. I added photo-etch windshield wipers. And the hoodscoop finished and in place. At this point I thought I was actually done, it took me to today to realise I forgot 2 things: The side-mirror.... ....And the exhaust, which also needed a little bit of modification... ...which can be seen here, between the exhaust manifold and the rear-piece. I had to place a little bit in between, otherwise there would've been a 3mm gap. Does look sweet  -

Thanks guys! @Sak; ok thanks. I thought it was a metal tube connecting to the manifold, so I kept it gun-metal. But if you say so....;-) I got a mini-brush and painted it semi-gloss black. If you see anything else, please let me know. -

The Creative Explorer replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Instead of using the kit-hoses, I wanted to replace them. I found some tubing, but it was hollow and didn't stay contoured, so I stuck some copperwire in the tube and now it works with me, rather then against me First I made a mold with just the copperwire... ...and then put the tubing on the wire and glued it in place. -

I added the carburetor-linkage, but that was a huge pain in the butt!. It is barely noticable on the picture, but there is a hair-thin wire running from the first carb-linkage to the black cable, quite frustrating! The front end was installed and now it starts to look like a Chevelle! I also made a antenna out of a watch-part and acupuncture needle. I think it looks convincing! -

Thanks guys! This kit has been wonderful to work on so far, the fit is really well. Especially when considering I am kitbashing 2 kits. There are a lot of possibilities to upgrade the detailling and altogether it comes out quite nice. It is starting to come all together, the interior tub was put together, so I could finish up the last details in the car. I flocked the (Fujimi) teddy-bear, to give it a bit more realistic appearance It also needed a face, I manage to do that with a sharpie-pen The teddy-bear is now making sure the baby is safe during a wild ride ;-) -
Thanks guys for the response. @Jeff, I don't smoke, so that won't work. But I am not stressing out, I am not worried about that. @Dr: don't worry, I will ;-) @Bigphoto; thanks that is helpful! I've read it now a couple of times @Harry; me too haha, I think I know why, last year I wasn't satisfied with the outcome of the contest, I missed continuïty, (it had nothing to do with my own entry's) and I gave them some respectfull critique. Appearantly it was taken the right way and now I can "put my ....( dont know that word hehe) where my mouth is".

I got today a e-mail that I am invited to judge the car-category's of the Dutch IPMS Nationals over 2 weeks. I've never done such a thing before and I have no idea what I should be doing. Are there members over here that judged before and know what the pitfalls are and what to look for? I also already entered 7 cars in the contest, but obviously I am not coming near those during the judging....

Nice, clean build. I think the 550 is one of my favourite Ferrari's and I would take it over a 599 without a doubt.
