Auto ID Quiz #25 FINISHED!
The Creative Explorer replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
You are "BUTT UGLY, Big Dawg" -
I think it wouldn't even matter on factory-stock cars either. Think about, how big is the chance that the same wires are still in the car since it left the factory after 20-30-50-60 years? I think it is a safe statement plug-wires would be replaced once a 10-years, so the chances are high that even in a stock vehicle, colored wires appear. I had once (long time ago) a stock '87 corolla from the first owner (oldtimers) that thing had lightblue, non-performance plugwires.

The Creative Explorer replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks everyone for responding, at least it shows there is some interest Like I mentioned before, I am not posting just to receive as much reply's as possible. But it would've been nice if I get some support and interest, especially in this topic. @Mark (taylor); True, but I also need feedback/criticism throughout the build. It isn't of any help if people wait with their comments when I finished the car, it is unlikely I will be able to improve that what I didn't do right. I thought the idea of a forum is to help people with their builds, and where I try to help other posters if I notice something, I do like to receive that back as well. Only then, people will be able to learn. @LAOne, true. it is mostly detroit-iron on this board, where SPC is more about J-tin. But since I build basically everything on 4 wheels between 1910 and now, there is no specific preferation for me. I build what I like and that means basically all kinds of cars. On my workbench is at the moment the Enzo, Bugatti Type 41, Mercedes 540K, Dodge Daytona, Honda Civic Hatch, Chevrolet Malibu and the Mitsubishi Evo Coupe. @Steve; no I am not after a huge replies-count, just looking for some feedback and interest. I didn't even know I had a banner, must be a setting somewhere, since I don't see a banner at anybody (I do like that though). But I removed it and will look into it, why it would take so long to load. Sorry about that. @Scale-master; I know with the screws, but i didnt had a better replacement. I wanted philips, but the box that I have, only has flats. What I hoped, was that when the engine is mounted in the car, you can't face the screws frontal. But only at an angle, therefore it would be simulating a screw, and hopefully it will look good enough. I just didn't like I had no better material for it. @Boreham; I feel ya, but my dislikes starts after the Enzo and the 360 Modena, those were the last 2 Ferrari's that could get my appreciation. The modern ones don't have my sympathy, especially the california is a fluke. @Jim; I know, I do wish I could see the pulley-system after I put the engine in the car, but I must say, putting the pulley's there, with the serpentine-belt, it was a fun project. If I will go to a contest, I will show a picture of the engine, who knows.. @Mark (bluesman): I knew somebody would bring up the large amount of pictures, hence why I mentioned in my previous post. This topic is not 56K friendly and where I left major details out on other builds, I include quite a lot of pictures in this project. The reason is that I also want to motivate and let other builders show how I tackle problems, how I build-up something and put a bit of a extra effort in it. I didnt know about the banner and don't see why it would take soo long to load, therefore I deleted it and replaced it with some simple text. When I am posting an update, most time is not in the photo's, but in writing the guidetext. Since English isn't my first (or even second) language, it just takes longer to make a decent readable text. yeah, finally at a 2nd page, now people don't have to scroll through the first page with all the photo's hahah -
Volkswagon kit question
The Creative Explorer replied to MikeeD's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I would go with a Fujimi Enthusiast Porsche 356 A. B/C kit. They have the most part count and a very nice 4-cil aircooled boxer. The Tamiya builds together easier, but IMHO, I think the Fujimi looks more realistic. -

The Creative Explorer replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in WIP: Model Cars
This is not a swan-song, but I do like to take this oppertunity to see if I should or should not continue to update this project on the board. Like I stated before, I am putting my soul, my everything in this build and go further than I ever did before. Extending my boundaries and learn new tricks, work with new materials, all of that to get to a new peak in my modelling. The thing is, downloading the pictures, cropping them, make a album, upload them and then write text in English to go along with the pictures, takes a considerable time and I never had problems with it. But for some reason, there is hardly any interest in this project, I know it is the ..th Enzo, but I was hoping to inspire and motivate members on this board to reach beyond their limits too. Hence why I am using so many photo's, to see the processes, to see the differences and to see the effort I put in this project. But having hardly any replies, I need to know whether to keep this topic updated or just let it sleep in. I am not after nothing but praises, I do look forward for comments and helpful criticism, but more to see whether people are interested. Just let me know what to do. I would appreciate that. -

I must say that I am quite satisfied. It adds some realism to the engine, too bad that it will not be visible after installation. Then my hands started to itch and I the painted valve covers, again with the effect of 'sand-casting recreated It starts to look like a engine I will work with photoshop to edit photos, the white balance is not good, as is the contrast / exposure And the last for now Please send your comments -

Another picture of my carbon attempt, I tried to make some cuts in, because they work with carbon pads and those are not always straight either. Here I experimented with a little smoke on the carbon, the upper left is carbon, the lighter next to it is just as I decalled it. I find it slightly more realistic with smoke. And meanwhile, I also continued with the engine, I put screws on the cover plate I tried to improve this pulley, but I quit and when for a better alternative All pulleys are mounted, including the two guide-pulley's. 6 in total for the "snake-belt" oops, I lost a screw And with the belt on it. -

The other side AfterI took a clothespin apart and with two strong clips on top, a kind of printing press was made to straighten out the roof Just like the windshield pillar In between: this is what my first attempt to look like carbon The inside (not finished yet) And after two days with the 'press', it looks like this, still warped, but a lot better. The windshield will cover much, and it also seems to cover enough to bail Yet I am still not satisfied 99% And the press goes back on -

No replies at all? don't you guys like this build? I seriously put my soul in this build and would like to hear your comments And again an update. Much time went into trying to rebuild the cockpit to see if it is realistic to keep it. I had a horrible accident when applying the carbon-decals, but just scroll down to see Just a dry fit to see which parts of the cockpit to see where carbon needed to be applied The various carbon sheets, I will use different kinds through the build The rear part of the monocoque was given a light gun-metal color And we started with carbon Here is the misery of the melt-down, especially the passenger side was melted quite bad Very obvious to see here, the waves and the passenger side is quite significantly different in shape I've caught the doors there and show that the problem lies ######.... And so I started to try to get the original form little by little to come back, at least I tried -
no, Entex. I do like the idea John, you got my attention. Be aware of the join-lines between the upper and lower body. On the box it says, can be built as convertible or as coupe, but you show a coupe body, is there a second upper-body in the box?

As a note to Gregg, I am also using ScaleMotorcars forum and when Harry talked about the banner, it made me think. On that board, there is some kind of gallery, that grabs a few listings of eBay and display them at the bottom of the homepage. Why not try to establish something like this? ok, you need to get it programmed, but once it is running, it is cost-free and can keep eModelcars free. Just an idea

Oops so, we continue sanding This net was not very convincing, so I got rid of it And in reference to the form later From my reference photos showed that there is no seam in the tunnel, So I glued the innerpart already in. It should come in later, but now I can fix that seam and make it look better This is more visible The firewall has been installed already too, again to fix the seams. Only I have this sink marks overlooked, we will solve that. -

The Creative Explorer replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in WIP: Model Cars
First I created a template with tamiyatape And then pasted on the tin and cut out. Then with a centeringhole and a few screw holes, to give some realism The generator was equipped with a PE fan and pulley In the meantime I'm also working with filler, to fix the sinkmarks of the monocoque You need to have another look, but right above the alternator, I have a sensor in the 'tube' installed, this will be later wired The mounting rings for the drive shafts are fitted And the monocoque has been a first primer, to detect flaws -

The side of the gearbox, wasn't that good, I'm will try to make something different As with the pulleys and belt Just a reference photo for myself, so I can glue the pulleys in the right spot And two photographs to see how much space I have between the engine and bulkhead Not so much Preview of the suspension The belt removed A number of pulleys will be replaced by metal ones And here I start with a piece of tin, to make the sidepanel of the gearbox -

Thanks guys for the comments! I will do an update of recent days, but man, I make a lot of pictures. SORRY! The subframe was also sanded and painted gunmetal The engine was painted and here I tried the effect of sand molds to reproduce. On the picture is not very clear to see, but it has certainly worked. I am in that regard are very satisfied Here the effect is somewhat easier to see, do not forget that the Tamiya parts were completely smooth I removed the reaction rods, I found it a little too fake The front was painted aluminum The engine mounts and arms are satinblack with carbon. Also, the new reaction rods can be seen here A close-up And a different angle The supports for the reaction bars are painted gold, I think that is very similar. -
I know, but it still looks weird. Usually the wheels survive (tires not ofcourse)
-
That is terrible, it is weird though, there is no left rear wheel. where did that go?

Auto ID Quiz #25 FINISHED!
The Creative Explorer replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I found it rather easy actually. I went to google, hit images, put in the box 'weird looking van' and on the 6th or 7th page it came with a picture of it -
Ferrari Enzo - Tamiya - 1/24
The Creative Explorer replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The subframe had many sinkholes, not really the best effort of Tamiya, some sinkholes are hardly reachable, a challenge on it's own I had the simple SMS detailset, meaning that I had to provide my own calipers. I cut up the original discs and used those calipers. Especially the handbrake caliper was difficult to make it fit. It is a very fiddly part. I installed the intake manifold, so I can make it flush with the engine, then it will be ready for primer. Different angle I drilled holes on the valve-covers, some wiring will be installed later on And the subframe again, the longer I looked at it, the more wrong it looked in the middle. There is hardly any referencematerial to be found on this part, so I used my knowledge and filled up that gap. It doesnt make sense to have a gap there. -

Thanks guys! Much appreciated. After a long time and some projects, I've found the right motivation to work on this project again. Since it is a high-demanding project, it is hard to keep the right motivation, then I put the kit aside and let it sit, so I won't force the build. I did some testfitting of the bodypanels, And dryfitted the engine, just to see how it would look and what was needed to be improved. Work continued on the intake manifold, it was a delicate and long process to make it look close to the original. When the engine is back in the car, little will be seen, but at least I did it. -
AMT's 1956 Ford Victoria 'La Sombrera'
The Creative Explorer replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks Jim, I do love the styling of the '56. I didn't care much for the '57 Ford, but that era is just so amazingly awesome designed. Together with the first halve of the '60's it is my favourite designera in carhistory for me. the kit itself is in my opinion not that great, but like you said. It is a very old kit and taken that into account, it is very detailled and has some nice features. Especially when you take the AMT kits in mind with barely any engine detail, molded in detail and holes in the engine for the metal axles. -

Pontiac Firebird Turbo Trans-am 1/8
The Creative Explorer replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks guys! @Custom Hearse; haha, sorry @Rodney, likey? this is that one kit, hopefully i can do it just @Casey, I dont know yet. First target is make the bumper, I will leave the grill part open, so I can have different inserts or mesh behind it. But what exactly I don't know. Like CH said; the honeycomb wasnt on the '77 altough I think it might have been on the Skybird. And yes, this is quite a difficult challenge. I already have invested many hours and I am not even close to have the finishline in sight. There are so much things that I need to learn before I can make it really nice.
