  1. I've always signed and dated my commission builds in some inconspicuous (read: hidden) place. Some day, someone will disassemble one for parts and say "I wonder who this guy was"!
  2. http://www.shorttrackmodels.com/index.php?topic=2264.0 Probably resin cast by Chuck Poi, Nostalgia Race Models was his business name (if I remember correctly).
  3. Know anybody with a vacuum former? Or just smash form a sheet of thermo plastic over a wooden buck.
  4. A fully operational standard trans came with the Visible Chassis kit, along with a "sandpaper disc" operating clutch and hydraulic (using water) brakes. You could turn on your V-8, depress the clutch, put it in gear, and watch the rear wheels turn thru an operating differential. It was pretty neat and taught me a lot about cars, way before I had one.
  5. Engine, DRIVER AND FUEL TANK are offset. I watched the video yesterday, Thompson never lacked for new ideas!
  6. Hard to pick number one, but this one is pretty hard to find: Followed closely by these, supposedly only 50 of each made: After these I would say some of my Fisher resin kits are hard to find, at least now, after the fire. Still looking for a Fisher Chaparral 2E.
  7. Very confusing on all levels, it seems. I just purchased a rare old slot car on e-Bay, paid for 08/21, shipped from Portugal 08/22, e-Bay tracking began giving me notices that $$ would be due at my P.O. on arrival, arrived today 09/02 in my P.O. box, no additional charges assessed. I think I got in just under the deadline, but was afraid e-Bay was trying to pro-actively add some $$. I do believe my overseas purchasing, as far as possible, will be on hold for a while.
  8. Great, look forward to seeing pics soon!
  9. Just completed a very smooth & easy trade with JollySipper, thanks Tim!
  10. 30 plus years ago I lucked into an old, blonde wood, glass topped jewelry store display case, about 5-1/2 feet long, with mirrored sliding doors to access the display area and storage underneath, for $50. Adjustable glass shelves inside, haven't filled it yet! Need to get building more. I'll take some pics when i get it cleared off, that flat top is just too tempting a surface! Also started a photo diorama garage using 3 Fujimi garage kits, a long term WIP.
  11. I haven't chimed in to this thread yet, any changes will become old hat soon enough, but I would like to add my vote to having some sort of buy/sell section. E-Bay's fees have gotten out of hand, IMO, and I would rather sell to people that might actually build an old, cherished kit of mine. My buying and selling has historically just generated funds to further my hobby interests, not to add to household income. Modeling, slot cars, model railroading, none of these have ever been a business to me.
  12. Holy Foreign Additions, Rich! Never seen either of those before, awesome score for you.
  13. I agree that is impressive, timing the bounce of forklift tines at high speed is an art!
  14. Those wildly offset rims put a lot more strain on suspensions and hubs. Way too much leverage there. Just plain unsafe.
  15. Thanks, LOBBS, right back at you!
  16. Sorry, didn't see that!
  17. Does anyone know what will clean a brush? Just ordered some of this and I'll need to apply it with a very small brush to detail HO slot cars. Brush in cap is WAY too big.
  18. Back in the day, when IMC tires were eating the styrene wheels, we used shellac to coat any plastic surfaces that would come in contact with the tires. A couple thin coats brushed on seemed to work well. Those of us that dabble in slot cars have run into the same problems in that hobby as well. Clear nail polish as a barrier AND a glue works well for me on HO cars.
  19. Me, too, as I have a real '68 in my garage! Unrestored, from Washington state, waiting for an ambition increase and an automatic trans crossmember.
  20. I resemble these remarks!
  21. I did the same with a Dremel drill press. Seemed like a great idea to drill lots of small holes in either models or slot car chassis. Pretty sure I've never used it for either of those things. I HAVE used it as a micro arbor press once or twice, otherwise I just hang things on the handle, like my grandfather's leather punch which I DO use often!
  22. I thought this was just me, or a new setting that I missed. Yeah, e-Bay's constant tinkering is annoying, very little of it seems to be an improvement. My wife and I have a running joke about "new & improved" in advertising. Whenever we see or hear those words, we look at each other and say "Well, guess we gotta buy something else now!"
  23. I heard an interview with an AI "expert" (forget his name) who said the "learning" that AI does is it basically gathers all available info about a subject and then averages it. Doesn't sound like something we should rely on for anything important. Just a fancy algorithm bot.
  24. I have the Trickle Mustang, it's the worst one in that series. Body doesn't fit the chassis, sits really high unless you do a TON of modifications to cage, suspension, exhaust and interior tin work. All the others look good OOB. It fills out my collection but will probably never get built.
