Is this a gloss clear coat?
Mopar maniac 74 replied to Milo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It does yellow a little over white but I don't notice it over solid colors. I usually only clear if I put decals on a model. As with everything try it over a spare piece to see if you like it. -
Is this a gloss clear coat?
Mopar maniac 74 replied to Milo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Milo I use testors 1814 gloss clear enamel on anything with decals like race cars etc. It does not hurt the paint or wrinkle the decals. Model round up usually has in stock. Any cars not having large decals I usually just polish McGuire #7 then #3 then pledge polish. -
What was your first model car?
Mopar maniac 74 replied to Kit Karson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Kind of embarrassed to admit this but a Pontiac fiero given to me as a gift. Never finished it and I didn't like the real car but it got me started in the hobby. -
Scratchbuilding-Where to begin?
Mopar maniac 74 replied to olschoolkid's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Not sure how technical you want to get but you said scratch build so a spare parts box radiator cut to approx intercooler size and styrene parts tree bent to the shape of the hoses. If you want to be more detailed measure the real diameters cross to scale and find solder the correct size. It bends easy and is already silver. Just a couple suggestions for you -

No talk about the Round2 1971 Dodge Demon ?
Mopar maniac 74 replied to gtx6970's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Steve. Goldman 1st thank you for communicating w us. 2nd appreciate all these great re releases. Can you tell us if the demon will have the automatic console or a floor shift 4 speed? -
I have 2 answers for you. If you want to preserve your modeling history I would finish it as is. I have several I built as a kid and its a look how far I have improved type of thing. If you want it to match recent projects then use the advice above to strip and make new decals. Then build it to your current standards.

Model Building
Mopar maniac 74 replied to Erock's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
2 reasons I built replicas of my cars that I had in the past I wanted an extensive car collection and like others stated this is an affordable way to do it and they fit on a wall in the house -
Bob, Great build especially the upholstery on the seat. If you enjoy the mopars and the salvino kit all his chrysler kits are pretty much the same. That's why the 2 piece chassis with pin holes to move the wheel base. Then he puts the different engine in it and wheels and here you go. Not sure about about other car makes in the 70s era because I only build the mopars. I do know his 80s kits are monogram kits w new decals.

Mopar maniac 74 replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well the good news is peter did reply to me (thank you Peter). and he does have the molds. Unfortunately he doesn't have licensing from chrysler corp so I don't think we will be seeing them any time soon. -
Johan 62 Plymouth?
Mopar maniac 74 replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Joe, Hate to hear Atlantis maybe has them. They only seem to be interested in brand X on the car side but I sent them an e mail anyway. Guess there is always hope. -
Johan 62 Plymouth?
Mopar maniac 74 replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow Wonder if the revell molds exist anywhere so round 2 could get their hands on them. That body on a scavenged chassis with a blower or tunnel ram engine would make a nice pro street and you wouldn't need a hood. -
Make yourself an elmers glue and water solution. Dab it under the decal and smooth out like you would a regular decal. Any excess glue will wash off with water. I have always had trouble with laquer clearcote lifting the edge of the decals. I use a testors enamel or if you are happy with the pledge result stop there.

Running out of Future / Pledge Floor Care?
Mopar maniac 74 replied to Pierre Rivard's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Chad The issues with clear coat for me is I use spray cans and every clear except the old testors enamel wants to lift and wrinkle the decals so the future and now quick shine are a nice tip for me to try -
UP-TOP for 1968 Coronet Convertible
Mopar maniac 74 replied to 1972coronet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Curiosity got me. In kit form the 69 gtx conv is much straighter than the hardtop. I set the new coronet conv kit next to them and it has the same curve as the gtx hardtop. So if 3d scale used the kits the tops for the 69 gtx and 68 coronet would be different. Also if you were to chop the top of a 69gtx hardtop I think you would need the coronet soft top. -
What kits have thin whitewall tires?
Mopar maniac 74 replied to R. Thorne's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Round 2 seems to be making them. The 78 dodge pick up has them and my just arrived 68 coronet conv has them. Possibly other kits also. These 2 and the 65 Plymouth Steve referred to are the ones I have seen. -

Wheels roll or not roll?
Mopar maniac 74 replied to Biggu's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I always felt like it was a bonus if they rolled but most of mine don't. I even run into issues where they roll into each other in the display case and I have to glue a wheel. -

HPI Guy Asphalt Modified Racer Review
Mopar maniac 74 replied to Daddyfink's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Keep your eye on the southern motorsports and model roundup websites (just my personal preferences) for preorders of the new kits. I don't know how production works but maybe a time factor in keeping the runs to 1500 to 2500. Also like said before small runs and different drivers until the demand stalls. You can also probably kit bash different cars because all they use is the roof and window posts everything below that is pretty much the same. -
Bluenote Model master made the mopar colors in a laquer. I used the panther pink, plum crazy, sublime, and the oranges were excellent. Don't know if the testors release to hobby lobby has them or not Also not sure what stores you have available but these may be worth looking for for your mopars

What's the best chrome?

I like the bmf but in tight corners where it splits a chrome paint pen fills in those cracks nicely -
Engine enamel?
Mopar maniac 74 replied to Sidney Schwartz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Test on some unwanted parts 1st to make sure it doesn't etch the plastic. I use a pretty thick coat of primer before I paint when using auto type paints. That stuff is probably hot since it is temp resistant engine paint
