Revell Greased Lightning '48 Ford 'Vert
Junkman replied to stavanzer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
"It's too deep! It's too deep, you little rat fink!" -
Yes. It's part of the ongoing (since 2016) Hachette 1/24 scale "Auto Vintage" partworks series, which will go until no. 80. The series is only available in France, a mind boggling marketing concept in our globalised world. Some back issues can be bought for the issuing price from this outlet: https://www.journaux.fr/auto-vintage_vehicules-miniatures_7_1_458398.html That's where I get mine from, so they do ship internationally. Selected models have been reissued by Whitebox in different colours for the regular retail trade. I'd be surprised if the W115 wouldn't make a comeback there.

Revell Greased Lightning '48 Ford 'Vert

Maybe one could build an entirely different movie car from that kit? -
Besides, this ad nausea repeated bollox regarding this phantom called "The Bloody Casual Buyer" - I didn't give a flying monkey about it the first time. What I want counts for me, nothing else. And if it were such a big problem (no, I'm NOT using this newfangled 'issue' nonsense), what would it take to print "Reissue - Made With the Original 19XX Tooling" on the box? An Einstein?

I keep saying this for forty years now. When I started, I was looked at like I'm a bloody lunatic.

I wish more companies would do that. It'd allow us not blessed with cornucopia losers to budget better.

If the Imperial had freestanding headlights and taillights on top of the rear wings, it was a '62.

Most of the Deal's Wheels were reissued around five years ago IIRC, so you could rectify a mistake you made over forty years ago

1/16 MPC Honda Super Hawk CB77 Motorcycle
Junkman replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The Honda was available from Revell and a Norton Commando is (was?) available from Heller and is still very easy to source. -
The Revell stand at Telford wasn't really worth looking at from a car modeller perspective. Highlights were the two 1/16 Porsche 356es, which admittedly look very nice indeed, though.

Am I the only one who did real cars, girls and early - mid 20's debauchery without interrupting model car building? I ruined my first kit - an Airfix M3 Half Track, in 1973, so I'm into kit destroying for how long? 45 years? I didn't even realise I am that old, let alone as old as I really am, thanks for reminding me, not. I mustard mitt though that pretty much throughout the 90s until very recently I was one of those collectors. Earlier this year I sold about 2,000 kits to a dealer and still can't believe what a burden this took off me. I'm also down to only three real cars now. My life has changed. For the better.

Here's a rare sight!

Still proudly on 14 inch wheels. -
Imagine how well the Yanmar would sell had they made it in the correct scale.

Seeing how a potential kit purchase of the NSU pocket rocket, which is btw total cult in Europe, despite being looked at with a slightly raised eyebrow, isn't instantly dismissed even on a forum heavily gravitating towards American muscle cars, wouldn't make Tamiya's decision, if it where, seem that unreasonable now, would it? There have been quite a few releases lately from various kit manufacturers that at first glance seemed to be way out of the mainstream, but turned out to be surprisingly popular. Would any of you have ever anticipated a kit of the BMW 02, the MK1 Essie, or the Opel Manta? Let alone a Porsche tractor?

Stop it DeAgostini!! You're killing me!!

I should have heeded the warning. Bloody hell. -
Let me explain... These magazine 'Partwork' collections are completely localised, i.e. when they run them in - say - France, they aren't available anywhere outside France. The only way to get them is from vendors on eBay, or some other online outlets. You can't even subscribe from abroad. They have been ongoing for quite some time and it was the Italians who started the first 1/24 scale series about ten years ago. Each of those series is preceded by a 'Test' series, which is even in its issuing country only available in certain areas, or by subscription, and usually consists of five to ten models. If the 'Test' is successful, a fully fledged series may follow, which usually consists of 50 - 100 models. Albeit only in Spanish, here is some quite comprehensive information regarding the 1/24 series hitherto issued anywhere in the world: http://diecast24.blogspot.com/2017/01/colecciones-de-kiosco-escala-124.html Sometimes certain models from one series make it into another one, like e.g. the Maverick GT, which had been part of a test series run in Brazil last year. If you are interested in examples of the French series, you can order them here for the issuing price plus postage: https://www.journaux.fr/auto-vintage_vehicules-miniatures_7_1_458398.html I have pretty much the entire series and pool my orders with three to four other collectors to save on postage. We order once a month, so among us we get ten to twelve models at a time that way, which cuts postage to practically insignificance once it's shared between us. Hitherto the French dealer has been 100% reliable.

I will believe it when I hold one in my hands, but some handmade sample pieces were 'shown' to a selected few visitors at the Nuremberg fair 'underneath the table'.

There are rumours of a 1/24 NSU 1000 TT.

You need both kits to make a really good one. The Minicraft is a 1970s Gakken tool and thus shows its age, however, it's showing it with pride, having a much nicelier done tube frame, suspension and drivetrain setup. The Italieri has the better interior and body, so use the oily bits from the Minicraft and the shiny stuff from the Italeri. Or just sod it, build the one you have and be happy.
