Used the front suspension out of the Spirit of 57 kit. Used the tires too. Metallic aluminum for the trim inlay and bare metal foil for the chrome.

AMT 1960 Starliner kit. Plastic Performance wheels and tires. Three Amigos decals. These decals are from a gold car Jimmy Spencer ran at The Winston (maybe 1999). I like mixing eras.

Originally bought this kit to make an old school gasser. Started building and I couldn’t get the interior tub to fit. I tried shaving down the plastic with an x-acto, after several bloody fingers I tossed it. I decided to turn it into a bare boned dirt track racer. I sanded off all the trim and filled the headlights and taillights with Tamiya putty. Opened up the wheel wells to accommodate larger tires. Built a crude roll cage from the parts tree and added some side and bumper bars. Plastic Performance wheels and tires. I resisted the urge to smother it in decals.

They are all Fords…a Ford Farming Family

In Panacea Florida I came across this collection of cars at the side of the highway. Apparently a farming family would leave their vehicles here after they had served their purpose. Close to a hundred years worth. They have them at the side of the highway for onlookers to see.

My brother had a brand new 1969 AM Javelin, big bad green, he is 14 years older than me, he used to take me to Dragway Park in Cayuga Ontario almost every Sunday. He would race it, he won a few trophies. He sold it in 1974. He still regrets it to this day. Great memories, thanks to everyone for the posts!

Fantastic build. Great work and detail. Always preferred this paint scheme to the later all black car.

A while back I saw an old stock car racing movie called Thunder in Carolina. It featured actual footage from the 1959 Southern 500. There was a brief shot of Richard Petty’s #43 that was white with a blue roof. I thought it looked pretty cool so I bought a Christine kit. I had just discovered the world of aftermarket decals and found what I needed at Mike’s Decals. I sanded all the trim off the body and filled the headlights and taillights with Tamiya putty. Lots of Rustoleum primer and paint to cover the red molded body. I used Tamiya light blue for the roof and hood. Plastic Performance wheels and tires finished it off. I know Richard didn’t get the STP sponsorship until the 70’s and I think I overdid it with the 7UP decals but I’m not a stickler for details.

I use grey Rustoleum primer then a coat of Rustoleum metallic aluminum then Rustoleum black. This paint goes on thicker, I seem to have better luck with it. The metallic aluminum seems to bring out the shine.

Threw it back to a 1957 dirt track. AMT ‘57 Ford “Flashback” kit. Powerslide decals. Plastic Performance wheels and tires. Built the front and rear bumper bars from the parts tree. Always have trouble with opening doors so I glued them shut. Thought a white roof would suit an old race car.
