  1. This is my second tobacco “what if” build, after the Bobby Allison Winston car. I have lots more in the planning. MPC Bobby Isaac Torino kit, I don’t have much nice to say about it. Camel decals are Powerslides, the #15s are from 3 Amigos.
  2. Thanks for the tips everyone ?
  3. Great build!
  4. Welcome Ken
  5. Fabulous. Nice choice of paint, wheels and tires. Very clean build.
  6. I used the world’s fastest Edsel YouTube video as inspiration for this build
  7. A bunch of decals just arrived, some great, some disappointing
  8. Never heard of it. I just googled it. I will be going next March
  9. Thanks for the tips!
  10. I’ve never worked with a resin body. Are they that different from styrene? What are they like to sand, cut, paint ect. Thanks
  11. Good Day everyone. I have been here for a few months, thought I’d introduce myself. Name is Dave. Built models, lots of them when I was a kid, got back into the hobby in my late 50’s when my wife suggested I get a hobby while on a long motor home trip. Nothing much had changed, except the price. A lot of the kits looked the same, some even came with the same decals as in the 70’s (AMT 58 Impala for example). Once we returned home I discovered aftermarket decals and wheels and tires. I started building mostly 50’s and 60’s cars in an older NASCAR style, but with modern decals of my favourite drivers. I have quite a collection of unused decals and kit that I keep adding to. I enjoy the planning, what colour to use, which decals to pick, tire size and style, as much as the actual build. This is a great place for tips and information, it’s great to see others creations too. Have a great day!
  12. Made lots over the years. The one that sticks out wasn’t really a blunder, more of a how was I supposed to know. My very first model, Donnie Allison Woods Brother Mercury, was very long ago. I didn’t know that the contingency decals for the front fenders came off all together. I cut out each one individually.
  13. Did you decal and clear coat them too?
  14. Love the color. Like going back in time.
  15. AMT 1958 Impala kit. 100% box build. Wanted a bright orange paint but this rookie used grey primer. I had some trouble with the opening doors and spent a lot of time on the bare metal foil.
  16. Two of the three are in the planning
  17. Wow. What detailed work. Just incredible!!!
  18. Monte Carlo completed
  19. In the early 70’s, Junior Johnson approached RJ Reynolds tobacco about sponsoring his race team. Tobacco had been banned from advertising on television so they had lots of unused funds. Not sure what happened but they ultimately decided to sponsor the sport and the Winston Cup was created. By sponsoring the series they were effectively able to freeze out other tobacco companies from the sport. This left Junior without a sponsor, but he ended up with Bobby Allison as his driver with Bobby’s Coca Cola sponsorship coming with him. Junior’s cars had a variety of different numbers over the years. They ended up with #12, which Bobby took with him, along with Coke the following season. The next season Junior changed to his familiar #11 which he kept until he sold the team. So what if Winston decided to sponsor the team? This is the AMT Bobby Allison Coke Monte Carlo kit. The Winston decals are from Three Amigos. The rest are a mix of powerslide and kit decals. I will be building several more tobacco themed 70’s cars in the future.

    57 Chrysler

Again, going back to when I got back into modeling, I had purchased many decal sheets that either had a good number I liked, color, driver, sponsor ect. I was also buying kits, mostly cars from the 50’s and 60’s. This is the result. These Dale Jr. powerslides were from a black car he ran a Talladega. The Chrysler kit was about 20 years old and had some warpage issues that required a hairdryer.
