Slixx or Powerslide?
Horrorshow replied to LL3 Model Worx's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I prefer Powerslide, never had a problem. I have purchased two sheets of Slixx, both came with warnings to use a decal restorer due to their age. One set went on great, the other, which I got only for the numbers, did not. They broke, one is extremely wrinkled. I’m interested to hear other comments -
All great looking, but that Air Force themed racer is one of the best models I’ve ever seen!

AMT 58 Edsel kit. Sanded off all the trim. Plastic Performance wheels and tires. Built this when I first discovered aftermarket decals. I bought a bunch from different vendors. They disintegrated or would roll up and wouldn’t stick. I did not know about microsol at the time. I bought some more which were slightly better. These numbers didn’t match the paint lines. I am more aware of quality vendors and brands now. I believe the 58 Edsel is a very underrated car.

58 Edsel is one of my all time favourite cars. Very underrated. You did great work on this model. I would like to see a few more pictures.

Is there a brand of brushes and type of paint you would recommend? Primer too?

Box stock build. This was before I discovered aftermarket decals. I wanted the paint to be seafoam and black. There was no gloss black spray so I got matte black. I didn’t know the difference at the time but I loved how it looked. I could not find a seafoam spray so I bought a small bottle and brushed it on. It’s finish was flat, which made the decals impossible to slide. I had to be pretty well exact at first placement. I opened the back wheel wells slightly and lifted the front end to give it a gasser stance. This made the engine sit too low. It is a very simple kit and I learned a few lessons about paint, decals and modifying ride heights.

Thanks, I’ve seen a few for sale. -
Yikes! I need to stay away from bad smells. We are in a basement apartment. I’ll stick to the enamel for now. Perhaps I can find a retarder for enamels. I appreciate your advice Bill. Will post pics when I get started.

Thanks Mark. Do you recall any difficulties converting this lowrider to a NASCAR? -

I know I’m about four years late, but did you ever get the windows, lights ect?
-
Thanks for the tip Bill. Maybe I’ll switch to lacquer paint and use this retarder.

Salvinos Donnie Allison Hawaiian Tropic Monte Carlo. Some paint and sand paper. Going to try some brush painting on car bodies. Too cold now to spray outside ( I’m in Canada)
