Atlantis Gas Tanker - Sinclair Graphics
Tcoat replied to Joe Nunes's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Looks like the windshield has a bit of a compound curve to it but should be able to get a flat piece to work. It will be years before I ever get to it though. That looks like some beautifully molded glass and it is obvious it is much newer than the old parts. Do your figures have big gapping holes in their torsos? Mine look like the truck exploded and there were fatalities. As much of what I have done in the past is aircraft I am used to working in the 1/48th scale. In fact I bought this kit specifically because it was 1/48 and would work with the early jets. -

Ok that's it. I can't look at any more. -

WOW. Just wow! -
No way she is getting that suitcase in there! Besides judging by her current clothing she only needs a small overnight bag.

I see a horrible lack of packages that were over night shipped from Japan. And where is the manifold welder? You know how easy it is to blow those things!

The lights on the 63 are a different style and much smaller. I have just tacked mine on for now. I have two options to fix them. Someplace in my junkyard I have an old AMT '64 hand painted gluebomb that has lenses that are one piece and push through from behind. If I can find it I can cut them out and make a new outer ring (it is part of the body on the AMT). Or... Next time I am in the hobby shop I will pick up two sections of tubing and build the whole things up from scratch. Will drill out the rear panel so I can push them through and get the right depth and angle.

Yours has the "glass"? Mine is an older boxing and has no glass at all. Luckily it is all pretty much flat. -

I have one of these that I have fiddled with a bit but never started actual assembly. Mine will be "curbside" for a military jet refueling diorama so I will be only assembling enough of the engine to fill the gap when viewed from below. It is typical of the early 50's molds where it somehow manages to have a pile of detail and no detail at the same time. A little bit of extras will take it a long way. Some of the things I plan whenever I get to this: The interior consists of seats, a rough representation of an instrument panel and a steering wheel. That is it. I know it is a smaller scale and won't be easy to see in but I will do up some basic door panels with handles and winders, a shift lever and some switches. Maybe some nice floor mats since there would be no carpeting in these things. The wheels do not fit on the axles well at at all. They will need some adjustments. Although the piping and vale system are done fairly well it will need some hoses and separate handles for the valves. I may redo the valve set doors since they are about 8 scale inches thick. This is of course to allow the hinges to work though so I am on the fence still. Will drill out the headlights and taillights and use some clear in there. Haven't looked up pictures but there needs to be some sort of air line mount for hooking up to the trailer. If above chassis and visible I will do but if underneath it will be imaginary. May come up with more when actually building. -
I tried to not rant about those taillights again but could not keep my mouth shut! It isn't just that they are oversized but they are also 3 different sizes. If you try to sand the bugger ones down then the outer edge will be smaller than the others. They are supposed to fit into some insets to get the right angle and alignment but since they are molded as shapeless blobs it just doesn't work. It is a real shame because this is a top notch kit other than those tail lights. This is probably the best I have seen them yet, including my own build of the kit!

Perfection! We are seeing a lot of this kit this year and no two are even close to the same. I love it!

Yep I have seen that but haven't found any in a store here yet. Will Amazon some once I get down to my last drops.

Did not read all responses. I use Future over EVERYTHING. Acrylics, lacquers, enamels, bare plastic the whole works. I have never once had a failure with it. It's self leveling properties, adhesion and gloss are un paralleled by anything else I have used. Since it is now gone I will hoard my last drops for tinted shading and have to find a new gloss coat.

I saw that but my car colour is not on thier list of what can be done (you enter it into a search engine for the manufacturer) and if it was it then it has to get shipped to Canada from the UK. As it turns out their Canadian distributer for the stock colours is about a 45 minute drive from my work. That lotus stock colour looks like it is exactly what I am after. I like to go just a hair lighter than the real colour for models as it suits the scale look much truer.

That was sort of the direction I thought I would have to go. I still may pick up a can of the clear pearl for other projects.
-
Outstanding. And I can even get it. I knew you guys would come through. I would never have looked that up in a million years.
-
That looks perfect! Let the quest begin. I am not hopeful though.

This^ This is exactly what I do. Just make sure it is old school Windex that actually has that little bit of ammonia. I spent half an hour trying to clean some overspray off with a noname product and was baffled why it wouldn't work until I read the label.

I am gathering supplies to do my next OOB project and am stumped on paint. It is a 2020 Toyota 86 in a pearl British Racing Green. I have a can of the Tamiya Racing Green spray paint (TS-43) but it is not a pearl and is off shade by just a bit. Do any of you fine Gentlemen (or Ladies if any) know of a pearl green that may be closer? Is there a pearl top coat I can use that doesn't have 1" scale metal flakes in it? Any suggestions at all would be very welcome.

Ya it is sort of grey green in the pictures but actually works really really well with the style of the truck. The wheels look better than model kit super, ultra, blindingly bright chrome anyway. Far more realistic. -
Happy Van Ford Econoline

The height is just about bang on for stock. For the van crowd of the 70's I would bring the rear up about 1 scale inch.
