What's your best MacGyver moment
Tim W. SoCal replied to johnyrotten's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
When I was attending tech school near Phoenix, AZ, I was headed home to SoCal for a weekend after working late into the night. I was headed west on I10 and came across an elderly couple broken down on the side of the freeway. It turns out that the secondary lead from their ignition coil to their distributor cap had corroded and burned in two, resulting in no spark to their rotor. I made a temporary coil wire out of a section of metal clothes hanger, which got their engine running, and followed then into Blythe, CA. -

I'm so glad I was raised in a time when we were encouraged to "be all you can be", "reach for the stars", and "don't ask what your government can do for you, but ask what you can do for your government" than recent history's forewarnings to our youth that "you'll never survive without government intervention", "you're not smart enough to manage your own life" and "you'll own nothing and be happy with it". -
"circumstances beyond my control" is a cataclysm that I hate to tolerate and withstand so much that I do all that I can do to positively impact every aspect of and every moment of my life

Bienvenido a la comunidad, Jorge! I can't wait to see more of your model car work... -
Welcome to the community and back to our hobby, Dave. NICE job on your Model A Sedan kit. It is really good to see neighbors on this forum. I grew up in Riverside and lived there for many years, though I now hang out in North County San Diego.

I STRONGLY second this... I had what I thought was a pimple on the tip of my nose that never came to a head. I kept trying to pop it anyway, but it wouldn't pop. My best friend repeatedly implored me to get it checked and I repeatedly declared "Nah, it's just a pimple that won't pop..." This went on for more than a year. I went to my Doctor for a physical exam and had him take a look at it. He cut a piece off and sent it to the lab for a biopsy. Sure enough, Basal Cell Carcinoma... It has been treated and is completely cured, but this has made me MUCH more cautious and attentive when I spend time in the sun. You see, I was always too tough for sun tan lotion and, especially, sun block... ALSO, I've spent my professional life working among and near very loud noises, as well as spending many years playing bass guitar in a loud Rock Band, again, thinking I was too tough to need or use ear protection. I now have chronic, severe tinnitus and a 40% hearing loss. Please take care of yourselves substantially better than I have taken care of my body...
