What's with the U.S.Post office these days?
LennyB replied to styromaniac's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Our mail carrier left a holiday card in our box during the week fishing for a tip. It’s going to be a cold day in hell before that happens considering how bad her service is. Once or twice a week we get mail for other people in the neighborhood. Sometimes she is one house off on everyone. We get the mail that belongs to the people on our left and our mail ends up with the people to our right and so on down the block. To make it interesting she sometimes changes things up and we get the mail for the house on the right instead. One time when she did this I was in the front yard and went to the box right away to retrieve the mail. Saw it wasn’t our mail but the people next door and she was still in front of their house. I walked it over and handed it to her to point out the error. She started yelling at me that it was a Federal offense to have mail that doesn’t belong to me. But you put it in my box. And for this she wants a tip, it’s 8 degrees out now, still not cold enough. -
Twice bitten and once shy, or is it the other way around once bitten and twice shy, I don’t remember and now I’m so confused.

That’s why I don’t trust a lot of sellers on eBay when they have a sealed kit. You can, with the right equipment, shrink wrap a box with nothing in it but junk parts. I think either Car Model mag or Scale Auto actually did an article years ago about “air boxes”. I’ve seen some kits up for sale that are shrink wrapped that were never sold that way. Kits from the early sixties were not, they were held shut on the ends with a label and nothing more. Anyway, on a different subject, what irked me today is the stupidity or perhaps laziness of some people. Friday night we had about 3” of snow. This morning I went to the supermarket and in the corner of the parking lot was a large mound of the white stuff where the plow had pushed it all. In the pile we’re at least a dozen, mangled, shopping carts. Don’t try to convince me that the driver couldn’t see the carts in 3” of snow. Stupid or lazy, whichever, I was told as a kid that shopping carts cost $100. What do you suppose they cost now. If you ever wondered why your cart has a wobbly wheel here’s one reason.

Pork and beans was something we had a lot growing up because my dad loved it, I haven’t had it since.

The AMT is a Model King limited edition that’s why it’s so expensive. But it shows the tools still exist so they could reissue this again. I think this is the old MPC kit.

Thanks Greg, I might get the hang of this yet.😂

Just before the Cobra reissue came out I was working on converting a Modified Stocker back to stock. Grafted the wheel openings from an MPC Mercury Cyclone onto the body, in hindsight a dumb idea as the MPC kit is rare these days. Then the Cobra came out and I abandoned the idea. Stock piled the Cobra kit at the time and still have a bunch of them.

Thanks for the kind words Andy.

We had 3-4" of snow overnight and the dogs had me up early, one barking every time they heard a plow and the other hiding in the downstairs bathroom. So this morning worked out to be a good day to get some details out of the way.The Duster kit has a number of bits that go to rest under the hood. Battery, washer bottle, horns and wiper motor. I think I got them all. Horns were MIA but fortunately I was able to find another in my stash. Did the battery up first by adding some cables. Anyone have a favorite for battery cables? I bought a nice little detail kit somewhere that has photo-etched ends, but the cables they provide leave a lot to be desired. They don't retain their shape, they just like to curl up as this is the way they were in the package. Unlike the radiator hoses I added that nicely conform to however you bend them. I need battery cables like that... Battery and cables in, heater hoses as well, which seem to be related to the battery cables as I need to put a mount in the middle somewhere to hold them down as they should sag on the way to the firewall, and radiator hoses. Kit provides a washer bottle that's clear. I painted the inside light blue to look like it was filled with fluid, but the walls are so thick on the bottle it's not very convincing. I probably should have painted the outside but whats done is done. Wing nut still needs to be painted to make Jim happy. It's amazing how the photos bring you down to earth and show you all the flaws. I see I got silver paint on the core support painting the radiator cap. Luckily I just painted that before the pic so I was able to remove it in time. Got the headlights and marker lights in place. Headlight lenses are actually a bit too big. I thought it was maybe the 3D printed grill but they don't fit the kit grill either. Had to reduce the circumference to get them to go home. Added a little orange dot to the marker light bucket before installing the lenses to simulate the bulb. Doesn't look half bad but we can see the hood has a slight crown to it at the lip. Might have to run this under some hot water and see if I can straighten it out. Still doing body work on this ol' girl after all these years. Getting closer to the end, few thing still to check off the list and then we can roll out and deliver the papers. Catch ya next time.

Again with the lipstick, the only thing that could be worse is if they started to fly as well, it’s bad enough normal pigs can fly but with lipstick would just be too much.

Build up the bodywork in thin layers, not glopped on like you did as a teen.
