Nova Salt Flat Racer
Mark W replied to Pierre Rivard's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
For sure that needs to be seen poking through the hood where it can be seen. Going to pick up the RB motion ends for my Garlets dragster. Thanks for the info. Yes, they are expensive, but we use but a few of them and the results are fantastic! -

I’ll check it out Justin, it has to be a pretty fine mesh. -

The injector lines are first class, it does pay to take you time. What did you use for the fittings? Love the flat/washed finish on the valve covers. -

I was leaning that way, just wanted other’s opinion. -
ARII Chaparral 2C

I did a mockup and found that it was setting high in the front (or low in the rear). Decided to lower the front to level it off. What do you think. The tires tucked up in the wheel well a bit look ok? -
Pierre, I agree with you about the passing of Accurate Miniatures. I have enjoyed the Grand Sports and an early Mustang. Would have liked to see more. Hope you enjoy this build.

Danial, that McLaren is astounding! I only hope I can come close. I will put every effort into making the panels fit and removable. This proves it can be done. If you find any more pics, please share, I’d like to see a rear shot of the car and engine. thanks!

Hey Rich, sure if you come up with anything, that would be great! Now is the time to identify any problems. How about some pics. The tip on narrowing the front track is great!

Bill, you may have saved this build, I always herd the body panels were difficult to fit properly, no one said why. I can easily heat form the lines to fit down in tightly. I have a variety of metallic finishes, Vallejo metallics, Alclad and a about a dozen old Testors metalizer. Just need to pick a shiny (non chrome) one. thanks

Chaparral 2D at 1966 Daytona 24 hours
Mark W replied to Pierre Rivard's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Very nice 2D. The build is so clean, it really looks 1:1 So you used Vallejo, what color? I also see you brush paint, even more impressive! I have not had luck sanding/polishing acrylics, what technique do you use. I use a lot of Vallejo on my aircraft. -
While my main WIP is the Chaparral 2C, I thought I’d show this background project. Everyone love a good WIP. The high wing will be built fully closed with minimal inside details. The low wing will be displayed with the panels off, full detail. If you have done one of these, I’d love to see your work, as it will give me ideas to improve mine. Expect the progress on these to be a little slow, as there is a lot of fiddling and I only work on them when the planets are properly aligned.

Super job! That is sooooooo clean.

Wintersteen Grand Sport Corvette

Thanks Rich. If you decide to do the Wintersteen, I have done a lot of research and learned a lot from fellow modelers. If you need any advice, let me know. -
ARII Chaparral 2C

I plan on much the same, some sort of engine top half with the Webers. Maybe a full engine since this will be the early 2C with the exhaust stacks exiting on top. Whichever is easier. -

I’m now reading a book about him and yes, his accomplishments are impressive. -

They are beautiful wheels. I do have another set for a future 2D build. -
After sending the Wintersteen Grand Sport under glass, I decided to undertake a less stressful project . This will be a curbside Chaparral 2C. The first mod was to use a set of HRM wheel/tire set. This has to be the most beautiful Chaparral wheels and tires I’ve seen! So far I’ve opened the screen areas as I feel there is no I know way to make them realistic. There is a lot of talk about the color of the Chaparrals. I plan now to go with Ermine white, a 60’s Chevrolet color. Feel free to add to this topic as far as color or any mod I can add to make it a better model. I would also like a source for the “66” decals with a clear background. The kit ones aren’t bad as they are an off white.
