  1. You absolutely nailed the look man! Looks like it would be sitting in the lanes waiting to make a blast.
  2. Killer model!! It looks right!
  3. Thanks!! the build list came from that Fred Cady decal sheet. it was an interesting sheet. It came with black stripes, white stripes some yenko stickers, some gauge faces for random sized gauges that build sheet, and some Harrison air-conditioning stickers
  4. I love this kit. It has some flaws of course but the feeling of nostalgia I get with these kits makes me look past the flaws. I started this one about 15 years ago and it got boxed up when moving. The paint is hardware store GM color paint. I think it's pretty close to 1970 Chevy "Astro blue". My dad has a 70 SS 396 in the same color. His car came with no hood pins or cowl induction so I sanded those parts off. I fiddled with the ride height a bit to make it sit how they did factory- a little lower in the back. At some point, I broke the rear window, so I made one out of a clear salad container and it doesn't look half bad! The decals were an ancient Fred caddy sheet with black stripes, as the black stripes are hard to find for the revell kit. I really stink at clear coating but have been having luck with quick shine floor polish. I got some Firestone wide oval decals off eBay and put a matte coat over them. I'm pretty happy with the results!
  5. This model looks real! The wheel covers give it the "executive muscle" look.
  6. Super clean paint and foil work. A first class model!
  7. Excellent work!! This makes me nostalgic for this era of drag racing. big block and a dominator and spray and your going fast!
  8. I really like this build. little details like making the ignition wires "lay" right can make a big difference and your absolutely nailing it!
  9. One of my favorite cars of all time. Looks like you're off to a great start!
  10. Here's my Lee Shepherd Pro Stock Camaro I finished a few years ago. It is built out of box. The kit was one of the newer kits reissued a while back. Not a bad kit to put together, but the roll cages on these kits were always a little finicky for me. The newer kits didn't come with tire lettering so the rear slicks came from the parts box. They also unfortunately didn't come with the chrome moroso valve covers. I had a bunch of these kits when I was younger but didn't have the skill to build them nice, so I was glad to have the chance to build one again!
  11. This build is fantastic! I can almost hear the dry hops
  12. Wow amazing work!! Superb engine wiring. I love these kits. Wish they would re issue them.
  13. Here's my Grumpy's Toy Vega. I had a good time with this kit. It's basically out of box with a few add ons like a scratch built moroso tach, wired distributor that I made and plastic sheet inner fenders. I recently picked up a cheap airbrush, so I decided to try and paint the red around the windows and it turned out pretty good! I found a more correct tunnel ram from my parts box, as the kit intake was not good. I used butt connectors for the header collectors. The wheelie bars didn't look right so I left them off. The pad printed slicks really round out the model! thanks for looking.
  14. very cool. I really like how you have it aside of the 63 impala. Amazing how race car tech changed so much over a short 9 years.
  15. This just looks RIGHT! Good job. did you have to tweak the suspension to get it to sit that way?
  16. Hey everyone!! I was looking for some reference photos as well and this thread keeps popping up so I thought I would chime in, start some more discussion, and hopefully help somebody else looking for reference photos. Somebody referenced the hot rod magazine article from 1972 and here is the link to that article. https://www.hotrod.com/features/what-makes-grumpy-happy-december-1972-982-682-42-1/photos/ As we can see from the engine picture, it's quite a bit different from the very famous picture of Jenkins standing at the front of the car and his crewmembers standing at the driver side. That picture has the hood off with an orange engine, dominator carburetors, and the fender well headers. It's almost like that picture is either a very early picture, or they just threw an engine together for the photo. The picture from the hot rod magazine article looks like it's a black engine, black cylinder, heads, aluminum valve cover extensions to clear roller rockers and factory style valve covers. The article also states that he tried dominators at some point, but they weren't worth the hassle or the minimal horsepower gains. Of course this was December 1972, 10 months after the car made it original debut. I'm sure they were changing stuff the entire entire season.
