I don't have pics, but I have the kit. It is the same kit as the 'early Iron' issues. Model A frame and running gear. Simplified SBC with Six carb manifold. New halibrand style kidney bean hole rims and generic low profile wheels. In my estimation, these would be better suited for another rod. It has some new lowered suspension pieces to go with the new wheels. The old AWESOME kelsey Hayes wire rims are in there along with some other tires for those as well. The kit looks to have survived well and the updated parts are a welcomed addition. There is a 32 grill shell along with the original all chrome Model A grill as well. Run out and buy a couple, you won't be disappointed

I have both those kits and ended up cutting away the original body panels and fitting the aftermarket to them. I just thought they looked funny standing off from the body a bit. Yours are farther along than mine though. I just have them in primer. Maybe I need to break them out and paint 'em

Okay, among the bazillion projects on the bench right now is the MK torino stock car. I got a quick start on it and stalled. My problem concerns the chassis. It is two piece and for the life of me I can't figure out how to nail the length. Anybody got any hints on how to fix it. TIA

Is the newest issue the one with Kirk Hammet's Buick on the cover/covers. The latest ad for the Journal shows issue Thirty Eight. I can't remember the car on the cover that they show in the ad. I want to make sure that I haven't missed an issue!!!!

Looking cool. The wheels are great, but I may be biased as those were the wheels on my first car. Who did you say had those? They would help me in building a model of my celica now that Aoshima has re-released the 1977 Celica LB.

I definitely would not hide that one on the back of the shelf!!!!!! Terrific Job!!!!!

Revell 1955 Chevy Belair Hardtop - Test Shot Pics & Review
Ken replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Sorry man, it looks that way. The lowered suspension parts are on the right side middle bag and you can just make out the brakes on the spindles. Dave, if you could post some pictures of the lowered suspension to clear this up that would be great... yeah... also, I am gonna need you to come in sunday... Sorry, channeling 'Office Space'. I have been doing that a lot lately -
Heck, just buy one of the kits. You know you want it

Went to the local Hobbytown to grab the latest SA and Finescale. I was also grabbing an AMT 74 Cuda snapper for the build off... of course after seeing Frank's use of the VP Challenger chassis, I will have to head back to get one of those too. Anyway, I was planning on having them order me one of the MK Torinos and Camaro Floppers. Well guess what was sitting on the new arrival shelf when I walked in?? Three of the MK Torinos and Camaros. So a Torino followed me home. I know that it has been stated before, but the Big Three/Two could learn a thing or two from the box of this bad boy. This kit comes in one of the sturdiest boxes I have ever seen for a model kit. The way the design carries over to the box bottom is great as well. I may just frame and hang the box as I think it is soooo cool. The kit itself has a ton of possiblities. I could wait to grok it!!! I definitely will be saving for more of these releases. The Challenger funny car is the next one that really floats it for me. I will be buying more than just that one though. ALL HAIL THE MODEL KING!!!!!!

I think that the outkast show car released a few years ago contained the complete chassis and suspension to this car. I think you should still be able to find them on the auction sites for reasonable prices. I know that around here they did not sell that quick. HTH

Best 50 or so bucks a year yet. I started with issue 15 or so. I haven't even tried for the first twelve or so. Prices are outrageous on Ebay and the hard bound set that they sold a while back was out of my price range. I still anticipate every issue almost as much as I do with Model Cars mag

I have a Johan Cuda for the build off. Couple of questions. It has those annoying cut out on the front due to molding issues or so I thought. Do I need to just fill as is or do I need to compress the front and close the gaps? Next, does someone make a double bulge hood, or will the one from the AMT 70 Challenger fit with modification? Lastly, any good donor kits for this one as I really only have the body and the pro-stock hood. This is the sox and martin issue. I am planning on picking up an AMT/MPC 74 snapper tomorrow or tuesday.

I don't know if they are region specific or not. Check out their website and see if there are some near you. www.biglots.com -
Today's Raid On Big Lots

Yeah, I have gotten two Big Dueces at those prices in the last year. I keep waiting for the Academy 1/32 F-18 to get to those prices. One of the local H-Ls has Enzos for around 35.00$ right now. They had about 7 or 8 of them. I know if I wait long enough, they will come down from there even more. We even have a Hobby Lobby outlet store, called the Basket Market or something like that. It is where they take all the unsold clearance items and sell them even cheaper. I once got a ton of the Colors by Boyd line for 65 cents a can. I gotta remember to make a run by there soon. -
Darin, I just wanna say that I don't think that Revell did a bad job with the shape of the AAR, yours looks just right Alright, calm down, don't anybody get their knickers in a twist, it is just a joke. Great start, on what can only be described as awesome... even WICKED AWESOME!!!!! I will definitely be checking in on your progress. I will also start planning my own twisted mopar!!!

Today's Raid On Big Lots

Mine had the escalades, 300C, Bigfoot, 56 T-bird, Eckler Corvette, PL Ford GT, 53 Double Flip, 81 Bronco, 51 Fleetline and the 65 Lincoln. That is pretty much every Big Lots within reasonable driving distance to me. I cleaned out pretty much all of the F&F mustangs that I found. I am gonna keep checking around. Luckily, I have a bunch of Hobby Lobbies in the area and they too have some of the AMT kits for about 5 bucks too. Got one HL near me that had the 74 GTX and International Scout for those prices. I plan on grabbing a few of those this weekend. -
Some other ideas for the weld lines. Spread some Testors liquid glue, the stuff with the purple label, it used to be in a square bottle. Let it sit for a little bit and then smooth the plastic out a bit with a spatula. Go easy as the styrene will be a bit soft. The glue should melt the styrene just enough to knock down the rough edges and make it look a bit more weld like. This is also something we 'armor' modelers do. One more idea. BMF the welds. Scuff the BMF with 600 grit sandpaper or steel wool to give it a brushed look rather than the shiny metal look. Another tip from the military guys. You can do this before or after the paint. If you do it before you paint, use the appropriate thinner to remove the paint from the BMF. Then just use a dirty wash on the BMF to tone it down even more.

I prefer the Advans. I have lately taken quite the liking to the Advans. Next would be the multi spoke chrome #3. Again, depends on the body color. I would just repaint the Advans to match the color, but like I said, I like Advans

Barely 'cuda Ii Engine Question...
Ken replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If I remember correctly, the heads and such from the DOHC hemi in the AMT coronet kit would work on the Mono 1/24th hemi. The heads and valve covers seem a bit oversized for 1/25th. They might actually look about right on the Mono engine. Then it all depends on what you want to use for induction as to where it might come from. Either way, I am sure you will let us know!!!!! -
Several of the Ferrari models have been supercharged or at least turbo-ed. First one I think of is the 388 GTO from the late eighties. I also believe that the F-40 and 50 might have been turbo-ed or Supercharged. I would say to go for it. If you have a Polar Lights Ford GT or any of it's AMT derivatives, that has a good looking modern supercharger in it. You could fab up a intake manifold for it from the kit six carb intake. Most of all, it is your kit, build it how you like!!!!!!

2007 K&j Kruize Kicks Off--lots Of Pictures!
Ken replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have been following most of the build-up. Where do most of the models come from? As in who is the maker, not the builder. I know that a lot of people have built different stuff for this. Some of these look like they would be a nice diversion from the everyday stuff. Kind of a quickie weekend build. Thanks -
Barely 'cuda Ii Engine Question...
Ken replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
yeah, I will second the monogram Hemi. I believe that it is the same engine in all of their hemi-motivated mopars of late. I know that the one in the 67 GTX even has stamping numbers molded to the block!!! I believe though, that it is 1/25th. -
Okay, I have a new assignment at work. I now staff the Norman office three days a week. Not to bad, no suits around to get in the way, college is back in so the scenery ain't too bad Bad sides, 30 minute commute to and from everyday and I don't get to fly in the newschopper much any more. I did yesterday though and got to shoot a great high speed pursuit. Anyway, the worst/best benefit is the office is pretty much next door to the HobbyTown in Norman. My hobby expenses have shot way up lately. Today it was another Revell Merc(got three now) a can of TS-13, a can of Mica Red, some micro set for the gauge decals in the merc kit I am finishing and the latest Fine Scale Modeler. Now I just have to stop buying for a couple of weeks.

Went into hobby lobby for a can of Plum Crazy paint and came out with the paint and a revell 68 Dart 'Dick Landy' issue, a snap 1/24 Hummer H1 and a PL GTO drift car. They are clearancing the AMT kits right now, but I found these three buried in the back of the pile. The was also a Revell 40 Ford standard for 5.00$ but I left it there. Including the paint, I spent just over 25.00$ Some days I hate having a Hobby Lobby so close... well, actually five or six...
