Looks great!! I just broke down and finally bought a second one. Of course, hopefully, my foiling job will turn out as good as yours. Can't say it enough, these kits rock!!!!

Good start on a great idea!!!! Have you given any thought to shortening the car maybe? Since it is a two seater, no reason for the back seat. Just take an inch or so out just behind the front doors and slide the rear wheel wells back to maintain the wheelbase. Looks like you nailed the stance!!!

What brings you to this forum?
Ken replied to lonewolf's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I check this one and the other two major ones regularly. I don't really post on the other magazine board anymore. I still occasionally post on spotlight. I read and post here most often. Nice laid back style. I like the magazine and try to support Jarius and Greg as much as possible. I have gotten a subscription, cause I also like to support the one LHS left in the area. I come here cause alot of the guys from other boards migrated here and only post here now. I check spotlight cause some of those guys don't post over here. I never really got annoyed with the bickering on other boards. I just never opened those threads, didn't need the hassle. I stay here cause of the info and all the other stuff gained here. Izzy and his vettes, Mark and his lotus, Marc and his crappy metal axle kits just kidding on that last one. Mostly, because I see what other do and think I can do that too. I get the encouragement and knowledge I need to actually complete stuff here. My merc is almost done... BMF is giving me fits!!!!! I may just let it goes as is and finish the darn thing. Anyway, info and support is what keeps me here -
Nothing from the shop, but the mailman did drop off five new sets of Aoshima Wheels (I have learned, get 'em while you can) Three sets of the Volks GT-V, one GT-C and one of the Wedssport SA-70. The mailman also dropped off another russian rangefinder, but that is another story and the reason the model budget is shot!!!

WIP.....Lowe's Spongebob Nascar M/C...New Updates.9/22/07
Ken replied to 1320wayne's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Like Mike, I am not a NASCAR builder, but builds like this are awe inspiring. I know what a pain PE can be from some of my armor and aircraft builds. Great start on this one, looking forward to seeing it finished. -
Well, like everybody else and their brother, I finally found and almost immediately started one of the new Revell Mercs. Stepping out of my normal routine, I painted the body first. I have to say that this is one of the nicest moldings I have seen from Revell in a long time. No real annoying mold lines to speak of. Clean up did not take long at all. The first paint color was Testors MM Artic Blue Metallic from the regular MM line. After a serious bout with fish eye, into the purple pond it went. Next I bought the acryl verision of Artic Blue Metallic. I seriously goofed on the thinning of the paint and back into the CSC it went The third time I went a completely different route. This time I used Dupli-color exclusively. Color was Deep Jewell Green wet sanded inbetween with 3200 grit pads. A quick color coat after the last sanding followed by a couple of mist coats of clear. After a day of drying, more clear coats followed. I think I ended up with six or seven coats of clear. Then the polishing. I started with the 3200 grit pad and got rid of the orange peel. I did not even sand through the clear... a first for me. I have now started with the Mequirs. Swirl remover is all I have gotten to so far. Machine glaze is next. I haven't decided if I will wax now or later. The hardest part is not rushing. I keep having to put the body down and let the clear gas out completely. I know, I shouldn't even be polishing if the clear is still soft, but I can not help myself. Besides it looks this good I have never had a paint job turn out this well with so little work. Well, there was a lot of work on the first two paint jobs, but I don't count those Oh yeah, it is a metallic paint, but it does not show well in the photos. Not to mention that I was not paying close attention to the camera settings and the ISO was set way high.

I'll be the first to step out. Real, I believe that is a Brizio (spelling?) built rod. Can't remember who they built it for, but I believe it was featured in a Rodder's Journal issue with two other 32 highboys.

Looking great Tom!!!! I am doing the first straight out of the box. Thought I would enter it in the local HobbyTown contest in a couple of months. Got paint on mine and it looks good. I had to strip and repaint due to fish eye problems. With inspiration like yours and others on the board, I am headed for completion number 1 of the year.

Already started to work on my L700. I have always liked the look of this truck, but never wanted to fork out the ebay dollars for one. Now, I have two. First, I know that this is an old mold. That being said, I think that it has held up well. Mine have a lot of flash on them, but nothing too horrible The cab of mine was warped something terrible. I did the hot water trick with it and got it straightened out in a couple of minutes. The engraving seems good for late 60s technology. Although they are a bit light and may disappear under a couple of coats of paint. I plan to foil mine before painting to hopefully avoid that. The only bad part of the kit (if you don't count the 40 ford ) is the sink marks. The kit is just loaded with them. The rear wheels are the worst. There are giant sink holes (to deep to be marks) inbetween all the spokes. These things are so deep I think I lost one of my cats in them Anyway, so far I have the frame together and it went without a hitch. It is even level and straight, at least to my Mk 1 eyeball. The engine is being worked on next. Right now, the block is together and the rest is being cleaned up. I think with the second one I may swap in a bigger mill out of one of the AMT B-bodies. I haven't decided on colors or such just yet. I do know that this kit will definitely need some weathering to look right. No shiny paint or clean tires for this bad boy. Now, I just have to find a mecari fender to hang off the front...

Finally, I found them around here today. Of course, it was at the one wal-mart that I had yet to check. I also picked up a lindberg L-700 while I was at it. The merc already has a coat of paint on it. Artic Blue Metallic drying in the dehydrator as we speak. Don't know how I will finish it, but that will come with time.

Don't know about all that, but I am gonna have to start saving my pennies for all these cool kits Dave is nice enough to release!!!! -
Got this same kit, but I haven't started mine. Hope when I do it turns out as good as yours.

Okay, let me clarify. Around here, a 'girl' car is one that the driver most often is a girl. Mustangs around here are 'Guy' cars. Minis are 'Guy' cars. Audi TTs are 'girl' cars. The prelude is a girl car. Most of the time the drivers are hot asian chicks. Unfortunately, I do not have any pics to back this up. Trust me though, in Oklahoma City, if you see a Prelude or an Eclipse, most likely there is a hot asian chick driving.

I third or fourth the redlines questions. Very Hot Wheels-ish!!!!

Looking great Izzy!!! Keep up with the updates as well. They make great references for those of us who are waiting on starting ours

After a long hiatus, work and life got in the way, I have gotten back to the bench. I have decided that I am going to see this one through before I pick up another project. This is the Aoshima Honda Prelude. I have always had a thing for the prelude, eventhough it is a 'girl' car. Paint is Tamiya Racing Blue with just one coat of clear on it so far. It is going to get at least two more coats before the final polishing. I am just happy, cause this paint job turned out great so far. Even with all the rain here in Oklahoma. Wheels are Advans, they came with the kit. Oh yeah, I do have a few other things on the bench, but they aren't models, so they don't count as 'new' projects. This is a 1971 Kiev 4A rangefinder. It was a sweet camera, till the shutter curtain ribbons broke. It is now in parts as I await new ribbons or shutters from the motherland. It will be taken completely apart and degreased. The stuff they used originally has hardened beyond use. Everything will then be reassembled and lubed with decent grease. Eventually, it will be a better camera than when it arrived. I also have a Zorki 4 from 1957 that may get the same treatment. I have a roll of film going through it and then we will decide what to do with it.

Myself and one of the cars guys here in OKC were discussing this the other day. He saw the car up close and said it didn't look as bad in person. I am still thinking that it is not as bad as it seems. Oklahoma is famous for it's red dirt. When you apply water to it, it looks quite rusty. I was out shooting some flooding video the other day. When I got back to the station, my car looked almost this bad from the beltline down due to the red mud. I still want to see it cleaned up. My friend said that the guys at the show were walking around the car banging on the lower panels and it sounded solid. I guess we will still have to wait and see

Just got a set of the phat daddies. Looks like I will have to order a set or two of the chrome vantage. Nice looking rims
