Hanging Up The #11s For A Long While
novadose71 replied to Lownslow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll post this here since it seemed to kick off from here. I know, I know, don't read the post if you don't like it, we still have to see ALL the titles. I come here to unwind and look at models for Christ's sake. All you friggin' babies are ruining it with your oversensitivity and put downs. Here's an idea, when you guy's are done crying and wining and bitchin', build something cool(donk,lowrider,4x4,doesn't matter if it kicks a$$), post pics, use decent English, and relax, it's just a hobby. And if you can't handle a little criticism without blowing it out of proportion and you feel you must leave.......DON"T LET THE DOOR HIT YA WHERE THE GOOD LORD SPLIT YA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..........which proves all the "immature"comments true........................ Thanks for souring my morning...............ya big bunch of whiny babies BYE -
Had our last build before the show today, the clock is ticking with two weeks to go until the NNL. Individual "homework" projects were coming along nicely with most all nearing completion. All of our vehicles, and most of our figure choices were finalized today. Placement of everything is an ongoing process that will be finalized at our next meeting, and then plotted on a hand drawn map. After that it's just a few short days to finalize our individual projects, then off to the show the following Saturday. That's all, thanks for stopping by.

250 Testa Rosa Conversion To 1958 Lemans Winner
novadose71 replied to JHDrew's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I remember your Viper too, from a magazine article or something,................yeah that was a loooong time ago. Good work so far on this conversion. -
Had another club build today. We spent the day making street signs, lightpoles, concrete slabs by the back doors of the buildings, prepping resin details and figures, striping and weathering the parking lot, preliminary plotting for the placement of vehicles and figures(a map will be made before the NNL for the final placement of anything removable, which is pretty much everything). There was progress made by individual members on the vehicles and buildings that we are working on at home. There was paint and flooring on the drive in building and interior details prepped and planned out. The canopy is being built separately by another member. The paint and the fluorescent & neon "lighting" were done, the front fascia, signage, menu boards, and small details are in process. Lines and some weathering were added to the parking lot as well. The side of pub next door was left open when the speed shop was lopped off. It's now closed off and bricked up. Final details and signage are also in the works. Unfortunately I didn't get many pics today, these are the only two good ones I got, and no close-ups. I'll do better next time. The faces have been changed to protect the innocent. That's all I can think of for this installment. 28 days left until the show Next build day in two weeks, we'll probably do a mock-up, and finalize any details to get finally finalized the following Tuesday, which is the week of the show. Thanks for stopping. See ya in a couple weeks.

Old School You
novadose71 replied to marinewifejones's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I did the same thing about four years ago as a "gift" to my then future sister in law on their wedding day. I swore up n down I wouldn't cut it to be in the wedding, on the morning of the wedding I went and got a very short hair cut, donating the 13 or so inches of hair felt pretty good too. Before the wedding she must have walked past me 6 or 7 times. Oh man did we laugh when she finally recognized me, she screamed some then cried little . It was a good day. That's my haircut story, this is the haircut thread.....right? Oh yeah, old pics, I don't have any in the computer, and scanners down. Thanks anyway, I'll just snicker at all the other ones posted. -
All the builds for this diorama are supposed to be Circa 1961. I got my 59 El Camino painted this past weekend. Wimbledon White and Chrysler dark bronze. It was going to be white over bronze but I decided to flip the paint colors at the last minute to match the boat. I'll probably paint the boat sides white and with the woodgrain top, hopefully it will look good look good behind the El Camino. Some chrome reverse(or spiders) might be in order also. I started to tuck n roll the seat to match the tonneau cover with some Evergreen half round styrene. I don't know if I am going with the dark bronze from the body(with satin clear) on the tuck n roll, or a pearl white, either way, the boat interior will match. Any idea's or opinions on the interior color, or anything else, feel free to speak your mind. Thanks for stoppin. Have a wonderful day.

My 56 Victoria is close to finished, just need to weather the body and interior. Final assembly will be done after the placement of the figures is decided on as a club, and said figures are suitibly modified. I was having a blast with the Rustall on my 36 ford, and went a little further than I had planned. I was going to build it as a high school beeter rod, now it's a farm car. I need to add some mud and dust, paint the interior, and add a farmer and possibly a wife. I believe thats all. No overtime this weekend so I hope to wrap these two up, paint the El Camino body, start painting the boat, and maybe clean my model room a bit, that would be nice but........yeah right

Nice clean build Scott. Good job!! -
We had a mini build meeting last night. Painted stripes on the road, added some grass next to the dairy bar, and a little tar to the street cracks. Then it was time to add buildings, a few vehicles, and some details for a mockup, then I left for work at 9 pm so there is no telling what got done after I left, I do know Sam Adams was there, so probably not a whole lot. . The Dairy bar is coming along nicely. One member is building the awning, another is doing the building. We did final placement of the tavern in relation to the grass, curbs, etc., now that can receive it's facelift. Our car list is getting revisions as we progress which is typical. That's all, enjoy. Next build is March 22nd, look for an update on or shortly after Easter. Thanks for stopping, bye.

Congratulations!!! And don't worry, they make pink models too.

About 6 weeks to go and a little progress to report. Interior of 56 is done(besides weathering) and I finished foiling the body this morning too(no pic yet). 59 El Camino mild custom pulling a Chris craft boat. This is the next one to get painted, hopefully this coming weekend. I've also added a 36 Ford into the mix, it will get some rust, some weathering and being a diorama car, no chassis detail. That's all folks.

Looks good. Nice to see one of these built.

.........maybe twice. I am looking to do another one of these, in one of it's earlier yellow configurations. But for now here's my reissue build from 5 or so years ago. Couldn't use the bad resin hood that came with it. Used the hood and sides from another kit with the Crate grillshell, worked good except I forgot to drill the holes in the driver hood side for the velocity stacks to breath. Otherwise it is a fiddly kit and it leaves you feeling good that you successfully finished it. Oh yeah, it looks great sitting on your shelf too.

Our club had it's first build day for our '08 diorama. We are taking our previous '72 diorama from a couple years ago, and backdating it to '61 when a burger and ice cream drive-in joint stood where the Clark station and movie theatre would stand a short eleven years later(and the speed shop was an empty grass lot.) Here it is in it's first life, Circa 1972, gas crunch era. We are getting rid of a few buildings, adding a couple, and backdating the rest. The center parking lot was made bigger, wiping out a few curbs in the process, and added a gravel alley and a grassy area for picnic tables. A few area's were fixed in the pavement, and all painted markings were sanded smooth. More cracks were added the streets and sidewalks, then we repainted all the pavement and added a wash to the cracks. Now it was time to set it up(pics below) and make our plans and figure out what needs to be gathered for our next build day. After a 9 hour day, base modifications are done, next we start to add details. Here is the scratchbuilt main structure for the drive-in awning, it will eventually get a corrugated roof. Next update in a couple weeks. Thanks for stoppin' by.

I got one of those wagon bodies from Jimmy a few weeks ago. Nice work Jairus.

MMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm corn. There is a Kustom Kemps in miniature in the Quad Cities (Davenport) also, Mr Metallic is a member, he could probably give you more info. I grew up in that area. Your town doesn't sound familiar and I didn't check a map, so I'm not sure where you are in the state. Shameless plug:If you are ever in the QC, checkout MVR Hobby on Spring Street in Davenport. See ya.

I'm now unsure on an interior color- originally it was going to be close to the factory tan and maybe with white seats- now I'm thinking same brown as the top with white or maybe even tan seats- any thoughts? I'm thinking of going with a black T-stripe now instead of the planned gold also. Now for an update. Due to the previously mentioned burn through I re-cleared the front fender and finished polishing the body. Painted and textured the vinyl top with testors "rubber" in the square bottles. Foiled all the top and window trim. I'll detail paint both bodies and interiors, and hopefully finish, before the bumpers return from the plater. That's all for now, yall come back real soon.

That kinda grabs me too. Good choice of subject matter. It's pretty much the same color combo as my 1/1-71 Nova.

Well, another year and another club diorama has been planned. Our first club build day will be in the next couple weeks. I am going to try to post all my cars for this year right here. So far I have 5 underway(3 prepped for paint work, one halfway done, one almost complete) and I'll post pics as the paint starts to fly. Here is my first car, it's about 50% done. AMT 56 Victoria, OOB build with some light weathering. The interior still needs to get two toned, with a darker green. Then I can BMF, assemble and weather it. Also in the works: 59 El Camino mild custom 48 Chevrolet Aerosedan Chris Craft boat Alfa Romeo Guilletta Spider I passed up overtime for this week, so hopefully I'll have a bit more to post when the weekend is over. Until then, see ya, thanks for stoppin'.

Slow goin' lately, working on some other projects at the moment. But I did get the 71 body sanded and polished, vinyl top textured white and the surrounding trim painted to match. I plan to paint the taillight cove and headliner some morning this week, BMF and add all the final details to finish the body. The interior is also painted and awaits details. The 73 hood is polished, and the blower needs details yet. I sanded through the clear on one front fender, it's the size of a pinhead. I need to tape off and re-clear that fender then finish polishing the whole body. The interior is ready for details too. Also the bumpers were finally sent to the platers. Gotta go, thanks for stopping, bye.
