Very cool ride there Zuk I know I too have seen pics of the later 30s cars, coupes mostly, that had pu beds slid into the trunk area. Got a cool book of the cars from the 40s and I found a few pics.... 1940 Hudson 'Six Traveler' with slide out pu box. Says all coupes and convertibles could be ordered with the box. This here coupe only cost $670. 41 Chevy coupe pu, based on the Master Deluxe buisness coupe had a bed that rolled out like a "dresser drawer and an independent tailgate was provided". They sold 1145 of 'em. 1940 Studebaker Champ with 164 cubic inch straight six. Edwards Iron Works made a pu box that slid into the trunk area.

Man, Peter, this is really coming along........uh....... not sure there are words to describe About the getting in & out, maybe if you do another one, what about following that rear 'door' line up and across the roof, cutting the roof/door area free and hinging it forward? The resulting side/roof area behind the seats could then be a structural element/rollbar type thing. Like you say tho, if'n a guy was lucky enuff to have this, he'd sure find a way to get in and get it on! Best of luck with it.

Got the ol' tubby twuck back on the bench fer a spell..... ...got them louvred engine side panels welded to the t'gate-- not very functional, but Then turned my tensions to gettin' the body down on/over the frame and started hackin' on the tub fer in the tub........ No mo' flo' Ripped the bencher outa my wrecked 37 Chebbby coupe, did a little modifryin' and got it in there. Gotta fab up some kinda floor now. So farly I be thinkin' satin blue fer colors... ...and might haftsa fab us up some kinda sheet metal hood... just a topper, with a stack stickin' up thru?

M M M MONSTEROUS!!! But very cool monsterous

Took awhile but got that ol' radiator positioned so's I could weld a support for it to the frame... ...... don't think I damaged the core at all, but if'n I did, I'll just dump some BarsLeaks in it. Got them buckets tidied up and welded to a hunka pipe.... Welded a hunka angle to the grille shell for to be mountin' it kinda secure like Did a li'l more welding and hoisted dat ol' grille & lights up fer a look see....... Oh Yeah! Can't wait to go cruisin'!!!
-
Started 'torching' them air slots outa the grille housing..... ....used a triangular file to start laying out centerlines.... ..... and followered up with a flat file that's just the right size Thar she be! Not too shabby if'n I says so myownself Was gonna use the stock rad outa the 53 pu, but it's just way too bigly , so..... ....tooked the rad outa a 39 Ford what's rustin' away out back, and popped the buckets off'n me wrecked 37 Chebby. Aint sure yet where exackly they gonna wind up Lookin' more & more like a farmboy buildem up.... ....oh well, long as it runs

Thanks Gramps-- yep, gotta admit, they is old brain cells (not as old as yourn, but... ) guess dat's why they calls 'em 'gray matter' I been seriouosly trying my darnsdest to not do any scratchbuildin' on this here thing, but finally just had to do a litttle seein' as how I couldn't not find me no tailgate fer the back o' the bed. Now I gots to fab up some kind of somethin' to keep it closed........ Also considering puttin' the louvered hood side panels from the 32 Switchers kit on the gate...

Workin' on gettin' this here rod buildemed up & cleanin' out this here garaage..... Was thinkin' of usin' a tractor grille up front of there, but bein' a Godly man, caint be goin' out and rippin' no grille's off'n the neighbors' tractors .......so just got back to a cleanin' up and founded the back fenders off'n the 53 leanin' up agin the welder-- the WELDER!? CLYDE MARUMBA!!! Grabbed them puppies and welded 'em togethers..... ...and started tryin' to see which end oughta be up Finally got some senses back & did a li'l whackin' and we's gittin' there....... Drawed some lines fer cuttin' out some air holes wit the torch. Now, just gotta see if'n we gots any big ol' headlight buckets for to be weldin' on either side.......

Boy, I don' know 'bouts that George! I be willin' to bet all them nekid chickens what Gramps stoled thier feathers off'n fer his painty brushes would'n be agreein with his way o'thinkin 'Course, then we would'n get to see all them cool paintem up jobs of his hereabouts

Gee Dave, you gets all the luck ! I'd never have let that body go !!! Cool frame-- and only 69 cents? Can't wait to see some big meats hangin' back here

I just knowed that'd wake you up Gramps! Funnies how things always comes around to bites ya in the rear aint it?

Seein' all the cool buildem ups hereabouts of rods built outa spare parts I just hadta do one too. Checked out my stasheroonie and finally decided I'd grab the frame & running gear outa the 53 Ford mod hauler, slap it together stock and see what happen next. Founded everthing but the front axle (think that's on a 37 Chebby somewhere), didn't like the wheels & tires, so started raiding other parts boxes, found some chrome steelies with baby moons, couple Michelins fer the front & couple Goodlyear slix fer the back. Gathered some 49 Ford interior parts to consider as well. Using front axle from the 55 Chevy pu, as well as the springs front & back. Usin' the stock flattie outa the 53 also. Got it up on them baby moons..... .....and started settin' bodies on. Don't wanna do any mods to the frame. Kinda like this here Vicky in a way.........and not. So then set this here tub on ..........I don' know.... .......then I 'membered this here 37PD Now dat might have possiblilities! Then things started gettin' all warm & fuzzy and I got this here idea! Got me a buncha Woodies and a 34 pu inna trade, so grabbed the bed off'n it, whacked it and we's going with this here. Cracked open one them Woodies, popped the seats outa it & they felled right in place Gotta come up with some kinda grille fer it now........

Yep, I'm with Gramps on this here Ed. Did they really align the pump islands thataway? Mebbe until some ol' ladies ran into the building a few times??? Nice touch them air lines for that ###### bell! When I worked at Marshall's Amoco we had the airlines-- had two 2 pump islands. When I started dating my first wife, her ex boyfriend used to like to come in with his new girlfriend and try and harass me by driving her li'l bug around and around the two pump islands dinging the ###### bell What a fruit! He did somehow score another girlfriend with a cherry 65 Galaxie conv. All that work really paid off--Wowser! Really bringin' back lotsa memories Ed, specially them wrapped tires with the ###### labels all facing forward. You's my ol' bossman Ed Marshall redecarbonated

QUOTE(Peter Lombardo @ Nov 15 2009, 05:42 AM) Curt, great job on a very unique subject. I am very impressed with the scratch building techniques you are employing on this. Great job on the rivets and louvers. I love this...this is exactly the part of modeling that I find the most exciting....finding, or creating, a unique subject and then building it. Just to employ techniques that are new to you expands your abilities for future projects. Like the old "Star-Trek" series used to say "Going Boldly where no man has gone before" (or something to that effect). Keep on breaking the boundaries and expanding our known "universe" of modeling. Congratulations, you have to be feeling pretty excited about the coming concussion of this build. Very cool project! QUOTE(Treehugger Dave @ Nov 24 2009, 09:24 AM) I'm going to "Piggy-back" off what Peter has already said, because he's right . To me it's really exciting to see a modeler step up "His Game", and take risks in front of the whole world to see, and then pull off something this complicated and detailed, and look so right-on. Beautiful job Curt I applaud your choice of subject, and your new-found skills to complete it - dave Gotta agree with Raul, Peter, Dave--- really nice little project Curt, and it's coming out real nice. To me this is what modeling is all about. Great work!

I had put ol' Gunthy inna nother room here coz since I gived 'im his teeths he been a yappin' almost as bad as ol' Mr SKWIRLS Didn't get hardly no sleep last nite.... Affer I finally woked up more or less I figgered I'd try & deal wit the clown.... ....so I heads fer the other room-- and this be what I finds! Don't even wanna try and imagines just what me cat Walker and Gunthy weres up to Figgered best thing to do would be to take the clown down into the basement where it's nice and cooly and shove a hunka wood in 'ims eye socket But he seem to be likin' dat too........ I did the count to 10 thing and tried to takes control of the sitcheyation.... ....grabbed dat hunka woodly & hacked it halfways & stuck 'im again. Didn't like the looks of them flat front eyeballs, so I ripped 'em out and did some sandin' on 'em. Everting worked out goodly, and ol' Gunthy finally started loosin' hims attitudes, just checking out hims surroundings.... Sorry to interrupts Gunthy, but I gots to be informin' the good fellers on the fordum herebouts 'bouts just what we gonna be doin' nextly. These here 'buck-eyes' gonna be fer formin' up some nice lightweight eyeballs fer ya outa some dem pingy pongy balls. Gonna cut a hole in a pingy ball, try & soften it up in some boily waters then try formin' dat hot plastic over these here 'buck-eyes'. Whatta ya think Gunthy? Cool, Misser CB!!!
-
Wow Ira! That's gonna be one nasty lookin' red hot chili pepper bug! Can't wait to see that front end in plastic!

Spended a goodly part of the morning gettin' more fangs for Gunthy fabbed up...... .....these here cat claw clippers weres a big help Got 'em in a basket of cat goodies that I won recemtly They looked purty goodly for cuttin' spruesies and they do. Kinda looks like I beened rippin' teeths outa ol' Gunthy, but like so much of me life it's backwarsds-- makin' a pile of toofs before I opens up the superduper gooey stuffs. It weres kinda messy, so's I figgered I'd spare everbodies any pix-- got 'em all stuck in Gunthy's face, cleaned 'im up, and started shootin'. Almost passed out after this here shot-- Man! do he have some badly breath! Figgered this here might be a good ID pic fer Gunthy fer on hims driver license Yep, ol' Gunthsy aint gots 'im no brain, but hims one happy, ughly clown Gettin' closer to gettin' all dem teeths together (hims & Mr SKWIRLS teefs dat is)
-
Don't think so George! Ol' Gunthy gonna be lookin' freaky enuff with kinda 'normal' size eyeballs-- these here eggs just toooo bigly-- mebbe if'ns I find some li'l birdy eggs Well.......enuff o' dat...... .....got started formin' up some teeths for Gunty. Get to work with my favorite tool-- the torch! Also love the stretchin' sprue thing-- it can get addickting. Wounded up with a bunch of double ended toothy blanks... ....and after workin' a blank over a bit, basickally just cutting 'em to size and doin' a bit of filing we gots us a nice li'l fang fer Gunthy. Slopped some superdupers on a couple fangs & set 'em in place. He gonna look good!
-
"Damnastic Duo" Me like!! A real pear-- I means pair-- a crazy VdubbyU wit a blown 4banger fer a brain an' a clown wit no brain! Almost like....uh-- I aint sayin' nuttin' more Yeah Gorge, ol' Gunthy must be kinda likes me self portraits Caint wait to be givin' him some hair Yep Plastic, dem balloony eyeballs're just fer mockup. Gotta figger out how's I gonna do dems. Goin' for as little weight as possibly-- right now everting leaning toward makin' a couple bucks and droppin' some warm pliable styreney sheet over dem bucks-- lessen I can comes up wit some other ideas like maybe heat & deform a couple pingy pong balls, or mebbe a couple Sharpie caps?
-
Finally got ol' Mr SWLKIRSL and Gunthar together While Gunthy's head were rollin' around somewheres I done stuffed hims torso in dat hole in Mr SKWIRLS 'head' Then almost tripped over Gunthy's hat and one 'ims eyeballs Founded the fruit and started gittin' 'im situationated..... .......or so I thought. MAN! I thought things weres bad just dealin' with Mr SLWKIRLS-- now I gots to deal wit this stupid brainless clown (guess I could always make 'im one) Finally got 'em hooked up. Gonna havta do some adjustin' on Gunthy's eyeballs so's he don't be steerin' Mr SKWIRLS down no wrongo path C'mon Gunthy! Eyes on da road! Good grief!!! Guess ya can't be 'xpecting much outa a clown wit balloon eyesballs, sandpapers tongue, no teeth, no brain. Guess me & Gunthy gots us a ways to go......
-
