Finally got ol' Gunthar's blockhead outa the clamp... ...and spended some time contrimplating our next steps After a few minutes of serieous like contrimplatin' I was ready ta go. Layed out some red lines for to be whackin' excess woods away from Herr Gunthar's noggin. First stop were's ol' Jimmy's bandsaw-- got it fired up and did some slicing... ...then were's time fer them really cool sharp things Gunthar was kinda afeard to do anything-- he just sat still I was havin' a great time, slicin' & awhackin' on the clown ....and he sure be lookin' clowny like! I could only just take just so much of dat clown face, so's I wrapped 'im up with some heavy duty foil-- Now he looks like Gunthar the baked potater clown head! Times fer some more contrimplating......

Oh yeah George! Them demons keep tryin' ta trip me up, but I just keeps prayin' and tryin' to do the right thing. My prayers are answered, and I makes it thru OK thanks to Jesus. (Don't be tellin' nobody, but ol' Mr SKWIRLS, and now Herr Gunthar the Clown driver, aint got the smarts to be demons, so I's kinda safe thereabouts ) Andyhows, I done went back at the drawing boared and picked a better line to be following fer a buck fer Herr Gunthar's head Made a template, and layed out some slices of wood for to glue Herr Gunthar's skull up at the proper like thickness (he be just as thick-headed as ol' Mr SWKIRLS ) Got them skull slices all scrolled out...... ...gathered everthing togehter..... ....applied a genenreous amount of Elmer's brain goo ta each slice.... ....and clamped 'em up. After letting the brain goo set up, the trick will be in removing all the extra wood so's Herr Gunthar's skull buck will be left. Hopefuellie carving out his skull will go welly and then we'll be puttin' paper mache over top of the buck for his 'skin'-- kinda like a puppet head. We shall see what happens

Went shopping as per Mr SKWILRLS 'structions and got us some supplies for hims driver dude I figured I'd give the poor feller a brain and a shave He started gettin' to be lookin' purty uglies but we soldiered on and.......oooh He done got way too ughly-- so I just had to walk away for awhiles When I got back-- YIKES! Apparently he's just as bad as ol' Mr SLWKIRLS and tooked him a lil' ol' hisssyfits and blowed his top! Oh well...... back to the drawing bored Think we'll try us some wood for Herr Drivers' skull

-
It does look somewhat like a 'toy' car, but then so did a lot of others back in them days. Still, it has a certain 'coolness' about it . Me likes the color-- is that prototypical of the 1:1?
-
Very cool James-- don't think I ever seen a 49 Merc convert. Can't wait to see how you handle the rear seat area. Love them doors and that hood-- Oh, and I vote for the Coral Blue color

Took hims X-ray and scanned it into me compurter and drewd up some plans.... Did notice Mr SWQURLS driver didn't aint got no brain-- at least it didn't show up on the X-ray, but we's got us a patteren and time to be carvin', sculptin', and slinging some paper mache over some claydoughs

Yeah, wrapped tires-- what a pain! I remember un-wrapping them suckers -- what a mess! and all for less than minimum wage! Bossman even told me at one point if'n I got me a haircut he'd pay me minimum wage ....yeah right Ed (dat was Bossman's name too ) I got a haircut, but it weren't good enuff Glad the tire makers quit wrapping them-- didn't make sense at me anyhow why wrap 'em, when they gonna be out in the mud & snow anyhows? How'd you do yours Ed (Bossman )
-
Oh man, Ed! These here pix are bringin' back so many memnories! Wished I coulda worked at the Amoco station for 30 years instead of puttin' 33 years in at the steel mill. I was just about ready to get my inspection mechanic certifrication when I got the call to the mill.......and the self serve stations were comin'-- you could see it comin' to an end. Really enjoyed the pumping the gas & doin' the repair work. Yer buildem up really capturds the spirit of them ol' garages. I remembers puttin' many a tire on & off with that ol' tire machine You's gotcha a bucket of 'RuGlyde' handy to it?
-
My my my.... Looks almost just like the Amoco I used to work at, Ed! You's gonna make a li'l old me moppin' the floor, like I used to do? Seriouslly, looks so much like the front end of the station I worked at back from 69-73. Lookin' goodly-- getr doned.

Tha's pretty cool, Plastic! I wouldn't sweat the hair thing--looks good with some of 'em pulled out! (just don't do that again ) Nice mix of the differnt parts. You gonna do any painting on the smoke? I'm hopin' to do a shoebox kinda similar and I was thinkin' of using cotton balls fer the smoke. Might have to consider the expandable foam for some of it. Probaly have to airbrush it. Again, nice job. Thanks for sharing.

Huh......never thought of that aspect, Art. Guess if'n it had been me, I probably woulda chopped the fan blades too-- probably then be about as effective as no fan anyhow Thanks. On your Jag, Harry-- did you scratchbuild the shroud, etc, for the fan, or did the kit have it? Looks good

Awhile back me & Mr SKWILRLS was at the bench. He were keepin' a close eye on me while I weres paintin' on his 4banger...... .....apparently he spentd too much time, too close to them fumeys and.... ..he done passed out! Yep! He done knocked hisself out cold! While he was 'out' I was finally able to work in peace on his 4banger, and then did some more 'painting' ideas on his toofy grin-- on the computer .... I bewieve we's got somethin' here! Candy Corny teefs for Mr SKWILRLS!! Hopefuellie, me airbrush & him will get along goodly enuff so we can gets 'em done Mo' SKWILRL WIP pix here: http://public.fotki.com/V866/crazy-cars-by-cb/page17.html for anybody what just caint get enuff of 'im

Thanks Chuck. I believe I have seen some 1:1 rods with uncovered engines that had no fan, but they were few & far between, and I assume they don't actually drive 'em much. Before I checked the Big Deuce for a fan, being that it could have the engine enclosed, I was thinking maybe that's what some peeps think-- that whattaya need a fan for when your engine is totally exposed and yer toolin' along thru all that fresh air? But still.........it just aint right As fer that 'preceding text'-- whenever I read a post by George, I read it by lookin' at it inna mirror and it makes perfick sanse!

First off-- beautiful work Harry, on a beauty of a model. Yeah, it is a shame about all those 'hidden once assembled details', but what a thrill for the builder, and what better for a model car forum, than the WIP pics showing all those wonderful li'l details before they get hidden away! Am I correct in assuming that the 1:1 Alpha had mechanical brakes? If so, the problem you speak of being inherent to the Pocher kits brakes would be very prototypical from what I understand. Used to work with a fellow whose Dad was a volunteer fireman who drove a firetruck with mechanical brakes, and he said that they needed adjusted constantly if you wanted them to actually work! Thanks again for sharing all the WIP pics-- priceless!

T'anks Virg--I's doin' my best-- it aint easy workin' with (FOR ) a green skwuirrll Back when we was on a little better terms we spended us some time playin' with some dem computer paints...... .....aint zactly sure how I's gonna be paintin' his toofy grin-- but fer quites some time now I been thinkin' DUCT TAPE!!!

Souns like you & MrSKWILRLS beend talkin' George! 'ats the same zact line he weres tellin' me! Oh, he's a speed demon, he is . Like I done sayd afore, i purty much got at the points to just buildem up him 4banger zactly like him says to-- and then make sures I's far 'nuff away when he fires it up, coz there gonna be parts flyin'!! I beend bustin' my tail puttin' & paintin' him 4banger for his big day, best as I can-- but he just keep pesteren me, kinda like one dem rugrats always askin' "Are we there yet?" I's 'bout ready to give 'im a trankilizing dart Guess i do gotta 'members he just a dumb skquirrl what don't know from clearance, etc-- like, just where'm I's apposed to put yer precious 'thrusty' fan at-- without shreddin' yer belts-- HUH??!! or havin' the fan blades ka-chunkin' up the dragstrip??-- HUH??!! .......... oh, great-- just GREAT! Worked some 1:1 flames today..
CB replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very 'cool' lookin' flames there Ismael! They look so real, and I see your Dad had some water there just in case BTW, how'd ya do the smoke ? It looks so real too! Great post-- you sure got me -
Well, Mr SKWILRLS is either mellowing out coz I be spendin' more time with him, or he's just getting weirder He keeps comin' up with all kinds of ideas fer his 4banger... 'booties' fer Mr SKWILRLS gotta be heat shranked Got them 'booties' shranked down a bit and he just couldn't wait to try 'em out I just keep tryin' to tell 'im he aint goin' nowheres whitout no belts, no genneramator, only one header, etc, etc, but he just gets so happy when he's all kinda stuck togethers Him rollin' around, he knocked me down -- but I did git me a good looksee at him belly And as ususal, he always gotta pop his little wheelie.... I could see right off he really gonna need him some wheelie bars back there. At least he has gotten better at listenin' at me-- a little bit. I done told him 'bout how he's gonna rip him oil pan off & trash him headers, so he tooked him a look-- but now he be talking about he wanting a fan back there. What! a fan??? Just when ya thinks yer sqkuirrl is comin' around.......
