Tryin' Too hard ?
imarriedawitch replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's just a picture. No context. We need more information to make an informed comment. If this was the work of a master craftsman with lots of engineering degrees then many of the comments would be valid. What if it's actually the work of someone that had to overcome long odds and adversity to make this. How big do some of you feel about your comments in that case? This might as well have been titled "let's make fun of this picture". -
Tryin' Too hard ?
imarriedawitch replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's just a car on a lawn. Nobody is trying to pass it off as worthy of being in a museum or in a classic car show. Maybe it's done on a budget, maybe it's a father/daughter build. Who knows for sure? Except apparently you. This is just another example of people knocking something down just to appear bigger. At least it's a real car. -

Being this judgemental based solely on one photo is irresponsible when you don't know the circumstances behind the build. -

If the owner is happy with it then that's good enough for me. -
Walk, then Run
imarriedawitch replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The only thing I've learned from reading all of this is I'll never have the need to post pictures. Comment: I couldn't help but notice you're still not making alternator brackets. They're easy to do and will add a lot. Response: Correct. Never have and never will. Comment: Unfortunate color choice. Probably would look better in a factory color. Response: You're right, however around here we use what we have. Something my father taught me. Comment: You realize this would never work in real life. Response: Yes. So? Comment: Do what you want, they won't be on my shelf. Response: They won't be on a shelf here either. People need to understand we're not all here for the same reasons. Perhaps model building doesn't rank as high in one persons life as it does in the next person. For the many that want to learn there may be some that just aren't interested. For those looking to improve with each build consider that there may be some that don't. Remember, it's just a hobby. -

Keep your guard up moving forward. Of the people I know that have been hacked none of them have been hacked only once.

Mechanical mistakes when building
imarriedawitch replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think there is a section here for those and I think that is probably where I would turn looking for this sort of thing. Perhaps threads like this would better reach it's intended target in that section rather than in the General area. They don't usually end well in the General area as we've seen here......again. -
Mechanical mistakes when building
imarriedawitch replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Help is usually better received when asked for. All to often these threads come unsolicited and attempt to force feed information on a somewhat regular basis to people that are happy doing what they're doing. Just another case of negative adult influence driving people away from a pleasant past time. -
Mechanical mistakes when building
imarriedawitch replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We're all in this hobby for different reasons. Probably as many different reasons as there are members here. Because I value certain things in my builds, the thought that other builders should value that same thing in their builds too doesn't make sense to me. To each their own. For me the hobby is all about building. With 800 kits in the stash I don't have the time or desire to be sweating the details. I'll leave the hobby before I'll wire an engine or make an alternator bracket no matter how many of these Public Service Announcement threads get created. But to each their own. Once I put my money down on a new kit that kit becomes mine. Mine to do as much or as little as I want. There are no papers signed or oaths taken that require it to be built to anyone's standard but my own. Whatever anyone else does with theirs is up to them. I'm certainly not going to be bothered or troubled by what they do or don't do with theirs as some have expressed here about others. In the grand scheme of things when that final judgement day comes (the real one) I don't think firing order is going to come up in the conversation. -

Must be Sunday, another sermon preaching the gospel of model building. -
build research
imarriedawitch replied to CrazyGirl's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I try to limit research to ten minutes or less, afterall it's just cutting into building time. I do however like to look for images of 1:1 cars online or in magazines to see what people have done. This is more to get general ideas for future builds, not actually researching anything specific. -

Hobby shop name stealing?
imarriedawitch replied to Howard Cohen's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As has been mentioned, this is often done in business. Using the name is likely part of the transaction. -
I didn't think Decals By Lucas was a one person operation. There was a member here that posted occasionally about the decals as though he had something to do with the business.

Model Express closing
imarriedawitch replied to imarriedawitch's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think you have misunderstood. I started the thread and posted what was on the Model Express website. I have nothing to do with Model Express other than being a multiple, 100% satisfied customer that will miss them dearly like the rest of the hobby. -
From their website: Some of you might have heard that we will be closing our doors at the end of the year. It’s been a great 20 years in an exciting industry but I will be moving on to something new in 2013. We have had many milestones over the years. We have shipped to every continent including Antarctica and as far north as North Pole, AK. The 60+ countries and many different cultures have kept the job (it was too much fun to be called a job) very interesting, even on the days when folks couldn’t quite understand the time zones involved and I would get calls in the middle of the night (we’re in the Pacific Time Zone). I enjoyed picking up snippets of many different languages (hej, terve, ciao, oi, hallo, kia ora, g’day) and getting corrected on my translated grammar. I even held onto my very first customer (Gerry Chevalier of Mini-Exotics) who showed me the inner workings of running a model/hobby business. There are many special customers who I have corresponded with (phone, email, fax) and have enjoyed hearing of their home, job, and family situations as the years went by; kids growing up, career changes, moves to different parts of the country and so on. I have begun the process of discounting my inventory and hopefully you will take advantage of the reduced pricing and get what you need before the items sell out completely. God bless, Dennis Krahn

Great idea carried out to perfection. I've always liked that body color. I'm using it on a '56 Chevy right now. -
