  1. It is a 1950. I used a Monogram 1993 Mustang GT for the front clip, so that the engine would fit. I had to rework the inner fenders but it worked out pretty good. I narrowed the kit rear end, and tubbed the pickup box, using 2 halves of a film canister (remember those?) for the tubs. Your '53 is a knockout!!!!! I like everything you are doing to it. Even the Chevy Engine!!!!!
  2. Tim, I like where you are going with this one. I made some similar mods to my '50 I started back in the '90's. I spliced in the front supension and engine from a Monogram Mustang GT. I really dig those '50's effies. I know your's going to be a knockout!!!
  3. Excellent!!!!!
  4. Thanks Vince!!! I took a look at it, and the various links gave me some more building tips. The kit needs a lot of work to look good. I want to flush mount the windshield and side windows, as well as building jambs for the gull wing doors and trunk lid, so that their fit will be better. The car has a certain allure to me, and I am glad the kit is out.
  5. Very Nice!!!
  6. I started on one last night, and I can say this one will be a challenge to get it to my standard. It can be done, but this one is not a walk in the park. There is quite a bit of flash all over it, so I have spent a lot of time removing ti, and fitting the doors and hatch, and I cannot accept the swirl in the rear fender, but I love the colot, so I have to paint it anyway. I am not too mad though, as I realize that this is an old tool, and just to have it is a blessing. I want to do the U.N.C.L.E. car, as I am a big fan of the show. There is not a lot of reference material, but I think I have enough to give it a go.
  7. You know I like it!!!!
  8. That is gorgeous!!!!!!
  9. I have everything to do a nice '70 Charger in my stash, my way. It's a hodgepodge of parts from different sources, but I think it would be stunning. I have some Panther Pink paint just for it.
  10. The '67 Coupe came out great, and I love it, as well as the roadster. Wait until you see the next Corvette on my bench. I am not telling what I am going to build, but trust me, it will be every bit as good in its own right. And it's ready for paint!!!!!
  11. Yes, I built it to represent a L-88 Coupe. The red roadster build was so enjoyable to me that when I did the coupe, I added detail that was not available to me at the time. I opened up the side gills, added various pieces of the MCG Photo-etch for the '66-67 Corvette, the MCW Marina Blue lacquer, A real Wood Steering Wheel from Replicas and Miniatures, Detail Master Aluminum Disc Brakes, a set of American Torque Thrust Wheels and Good Year Blue Streaks from the Revell 32 Ford 3-Window, and a homemade L-88 air cleaner made from sprue. I consider this one one of my best builds.
  12. Unfortnately, Testors does not make that particular paint any more. If I remember right, it was in the Car Colors line they did back in the 90's. At the time I built the roadster, I was a little apprehensive about using lacquer on a styrene model, as I have had many a fried body from the lacquer burn. As a matter of fact, my first air brush jobs were done with Tamiya Acrylics thinned with their thinner, custom mixed to my eye. I liked that Testors color better than the actual Marlboro Maroon, as it seems to be more red than silver. On the red Corvette, I "Bare Metaled" and paint detailed the flags, and trimmed the trimmed the stinger decals where the flags were moulded in, and installed them. On the blue car, I used the Model Car Garage photoetch set. I removed the flags and scripts from the car, painted and decaled the car, then I added the photetch after I paint detailed them on the sprue. I have learned a lot of tricks over the 50+ years I have been doing this, but unfortunately, my best modeling is behind me. I still enjoy it, but my physical limitations are catching up to me.
  13. I have a photoetch set with those letters that I could have used on this one. Funny the convertible and the box top has the G-A-L-A-X-I-E across the trunk lid. I have been considering turning the box top into an XL 4-Door Hardtop, in Black with a Black interior, with wire wheel covers. One of the convertibles is going to be Rose Beige, with a Rose Beige interior. A Friend of mine had that very car when I was a kid. It was beautiful, and I have the MCW paint for it.
  14. One of them is going to be Black, and the other will probably be a light , metallic color for a contrast. I was going to do one of them with a set of 20's, but I was able to get 2 sets of wheels, so I am going to do them as Replica Stocks I guess, but I do have another '61 Lincoln Continental Sedan, thatI am going to go the 20" route on, so who knows. It depends on my state of mind when it hits the bench.
  15. Very Nice!!!
  16. A couple of years ago, I ran across a Johan '61 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham Built-up. It was unpainted, but was missing its fornt wheels, and one of the fins was broken off. I got it prettty cheap, and I figured that one day I will fix the car up to go with my '61 Lincoln Continental Sedan. Fast Forward to last year, I was at a model Meeting, and I was purchasing an old built-up from a good friend, when I told him about the '61 Cadillac I had, and asked him had he come across any '61 Cadillac Wheels and Tires in his extensive parts collection. I went into a box, and handed me a built up '61 Cadillac, that was crudely painted, and missing one of its wheels. He gave it to me as a gift. Both of its fins were broken, but other than that it was all there. Last month I came across a rathe sad looking '61 Cadillac Promo, that was warped, but it had an intact fin, and a set of wheelcovers. About a week ago, I stripped the painted Cadillac, and fixed the fins with sheet styrene, using the promo as the pattern, and pirated the wheels and tires from it. I also fixed the fin on the unpainted one, that also had holes punched in it for mirrors and spotlights, that I filled in. I put both of them up on wheels for now until I primer and paint them. One of them will be Black, with a Beige or Gray contrasting interior, and the other will be another '61 Cadillac Color Combination. Since I was able to get 2 sets of wheels and tires, they can both be done as Replica Stock Cars. I have a lot of painting to do one it gets warm.
  17. Last week, I was in the basement looking around, and I noticed this forlorn AMT '63 Ford XL Hardtop in a bag. I polished it up, and re-did the bare Metal Foil. I built this one when AMT first brought out the Prestige series of kits. I have at least 7 '63 Ford XLs in the stash waiting for me to do something with them including 2 original convertibles, a Square Roof Hardtop, which I am restoring as a full detail car , using the guts from a '60 Starliner, and an original annual '63 XL Sports Hardtop. I painted it with good old Testors Model Master Paint, in a color called Champagne Gold, which is remarkably close to a color that was on the real car.
  18. I built this one when Revell brought this kit out the first time several years ago. I used a hardtop from the AMT "Prestige" 1963 Corvette Roadster. It fit prettty good, except that the front edge is just a little bit off, but I think it came out fine, as I wanted a hardtop on it. I built this one before I discovered MCW paints. It's painted with a Testors' Model Master Dark Red Metallic Enamel, cleared with their "High Gloss Lacquer Clear, and rubbed out. This one is one of my favorite cars in the one-to-one world. I wanted something other than Bright Red, or Blue, besides, I have a Marina Blue Fastback to go with it.
  19. Excellent!!!!!!
