"Tommy Boy" 67 Plymouth Belvedere GTX
Car Crazy 81 replied to Car Crazy 81's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I finally got it right this time the last paint job had an orange peel so that paint job went into the purple pond and now it has a fresh paint job its painted Model Master Turquoise Metallic i know its not accurate but its the closest shade i could find. -
Heres a mock-up pic what i want the Angila to look like. Im going 60's style on this one the wheels came from a Revell/Monogram RC Cola Wagon kit which is deviated from the Tom Daniel's Beer Wagon.

Paint Strippers - What to Use?
Car Crazy 81 replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I agree with Clay heres the list of stuff i use and i'll describe it in details i've learned a lot from this forum so here goes: Purple Power removes certain kind of finishes such as enamels but it wont strip acrylic enamels like Dupli-Color & Krylon i tried stripping Dupli-Color & Krylon it wouldnt budge. It does fantastic on chrome plating. You can buy this by the gallon for 5 bucks at Wal-Mart cheaper than Super Clean which works good. Brake fluid strips off paints like Dupli-Color & Krylon with no problem it also strips off all acrylic paints. 91% Isopropyl Alcohol does wonders on those AMT pre-painted kits it takes like 15 minutes or less to strip off and you got yourself a new kit all over again it works just like brake fluid. I hope this helps out i didnt come up with these ideas all by myself i learned these techniques from the forum and it pays off. -

Nick- Thanks for the tip i went through my parts box i happen to have those wheels but it didnt look right the wheels i have on there now look a lot more detailed im not looking for accuracy as far as the tires go im gonna order some Shabo tire decals for that. Again thanks for pointing that out. -
Heres some progress so far on the Impala i decided to build this one like it came off the showroom floor in 1963 im still deciding on going with the stock 327 ci or a 409 ci. I painted the body Rust-Oleum "Metallic" Gold Rush with Dark Gold interior.
-
This is my 4th Chevelle wagon i've built except this time im building one with a small block under the hood. The engine is from a Revell 63 Impala SS with parts box cylinder heads, intake manifold & valve covers im even adding a set of headers from a AMT 66 Nova SS Street Machine kit. What ya'll think so far.
-
I finally got the body in paint after a couple of paint attempts i think i got it this time. I used Rust-Oleum "Textured" Black for the vinyl top i masked off the body before spraying the top once it was cured i masked off the vinyl top i painted the body with Valspar Gloss Black. I even replicated the factory overspray on the frame to give it that factory, authentic look.

Heres the progress pics of this build i had the body in painted but it went in the purple pond because the paint had a lot of orange peel i couldnt have that so its gonna get reprimered & painted. The engine is a 440 ci that came out of a Revell 68 Charger R/T im in the process of ordering a tranny from Competition Resins since this car is gonna be a automatic. -

I got back to work on the Belvedere i stripped off the old primer that i sprayed about 2 years ago. Once the body was nice and clean i sanded it down with some 320 grit sandpaper to prep the body for primer. For the time being i resprayed the body with Valspar Gray primer which is an enamel paint. I finally found the color its Model Master Turquoise Metallic part no.#2945 its not exactly accurate as the movie car but its close. I'll have progress pics on Monday my camera is being repaired. -
I got a Revell 64 Chevy C10 Fleetside Pickup in the mail from a fellow modeler. I made a trip over to Ace Hardware known as Ullo's i picked up a dental pick, 4 pc tweezer set, sandpaper & a strainer. I bought a Revell RC Cola Wagon for $ 4.95 at a second hand store i couldnt pass that up that kit is really a Tom Daniel's "Beer Wagon" except Revell reissued it as a RC Cola Wagon which i might use for parts.

Tire Lettering / Painting
Car Crazy 81 replied to Build Up Boy's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Marty- The only thing i know that would work is using a White Gel Pen. I use a Gelly Roll medium point white gel pen which you can find at any art supply store or Michaels. I hope this helps. -
Kevin- Great start so far on your project im working on the "Bullitt" car as well. Instead of using the kits body i would go with a body shell from a Revell 69 Charger because it has the molded-in vinyl top. As for the paint goes Valspar has a great gloss black paint which you can find at Lowe's and for the vinyl top use Rust-Oleum "Textured" Black which has a great texture especially for a vinyl top. Note if youre using a 69 body fill the side marker lights and use the 68 rear facia & bumpers. I hope to see some pics of youre build.

Mark- The paint i have used on the GTO is Dupli-Color Toreador Red Metallic which is a Ford Color before i sprayed the red i'd used Dupli-Color Silver Metallic as a basecoat and then went on the Red to brighten things up.
-
George- This is an old 1:24 scale Monogram kit from the early 80's that i got in a trade its a pretty nice kit.

I havent did any progress on this one since Christmas one day i figured get this project back started so i did. I threw in a Big Block from a Revell 66 Chevelle Wagon kit and added a set of finned valve covers from a AMT 63 Corvette kit. The engine fits like a glove except i had to add a spacer on the tranny in order for the engine to sit right and i also added a set of headers from a Revell 67 Chevelle "Pro Street" kit. Im still working on the interior the bucket seats are from a AMT 66 Fairlane GT/A kit which looks better than the kits bench seat. Im still deciding on the color. The rallye wheels came from a Revell 67 Chevelle kit with parts box big & littles which are sourced from a Revell 56 Ford Pickup.

Since my computer was being repaired because it had a lot of viruses in it i managed to finish off my GTO for the next club meeting. What ya'll think.

Heres another one of my builds im looking to get started on i bought this one from a model show back in March for 2 bucks it was an old glue bomb when i seen it i thought potential. Im building this one as a unchopped late 60's cruiser with slotted wheels, Chevy 409 ci & a black paint job. I'll keep ya'll updated.

Heres some progress on the Petty car i had the body soaking in the purple pond over the weekend to remove all of the spot putty i'd applied to the body so im re-doing the body all over again. I rescribed the door seams, scribed out the decklid & reskinned the center section of the hood with sheet styene.
-
I came across this idea of converting this glue bomb body i had stashed away i figure i put it to some good use. Im building a replica of Richard Petty's car that he raced in 1971. I filled the door seams & grinded out the finned rocker panels and filled any gouges that was in the body. This is my first stock car build if anyone can give me any ideas on the engine specs, roll cage and any other pieces on this car that would be appreciated.

I finally got some paint on the Charger i painted it with Krylon Flat Black i also painted the Nova the same color. What ya'll think.
-
I repainted the Nova i used Krylon Flat Black which looks better than the Wal-Mart Flat Black i applied a while back the hood still needs work before its ready for paint.
