1979 Ford F-600 C O E Home Oil tanker
Eshaver replied to Eshaver's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Carl, generally the " 1993 " designation usually denotes Diesel # 1 & 2 dyed , or undyed . Kerosene on the other hand comes under the Gasoline header as its volitility is higher . It gets a 1225 . Still it could be Propane which of course is a 1025 . Ed Shaver -
Can you guess what's missing here?

Jerry , I remember the Thunderbirds , they were part of the television show , I forget the name where the Catholic school girl is growing up in the early sixties . Yes it was pretty much a truthful representation of life then in surburbia . Ed Shaver -
Early Fords - Flathead V-8 powered , 1932-53 . Then trucks all kinds to the time Elvis died , then theys all junk anyway . Ed Shaver

Revell 37 Ford ?
Eshaver replied to AMT Pacemakers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Uh Coker look down in dioramas . I did the then Monogram , now revell 37 Ford Sedan using a A M T chassis and engine from a 1936 kit . You can do a stock unit from Plastruct plastic if you wish too. Ford didn't change the front ends until 1948. Ed Shaver -

Anyone built the Revell 66 Chevelle wagon ?
Eshaver replied to Eshaver's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks everyone ! The front grille / bumper fit O K , but the rear , not so much . Revell couldda done a better job of making a locator pin of something to help at least strenthen the back bumper . I'll show yall pictures as I did it as a 283 manual Po mans wagon fer one of my up comming service stations . Ed Shaver -
1979 Ford F-600 C O E Home Oil tanker
Eshaver replied to Eshaver's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Lets see, here , uh ...................... first the tank construction . I made about five " Baffles and cut trhem in the oval shape ". I then placed one at either end as these would serve as where I spread Bondo to make the end bulges I then took a piece of Evergreen .015 sheet and placed it SQUARELY ON EDGE CENTERS OF BOTH ENDS . I then put a Baffle in the center leaving HALF UNGLUED. Then I took the other two Baffles and placed them accordingly tte same way . Now the Un - Glued part of the sheet was next . I dotted superglue to the center baffle and then simply rolled the entire tank onto the baffle that had the glue . The ends were treated to the glue next , one end at a time . There was a little excess at one end and I simply left it as the Bondo would take up the slack Once the overall tank was glued , I made the cut out for the hose reel . I made the " beading " from Evergreen styreen strip , uh , 015 X 015 . To hide the seam , I made the top seperate from Evergreen strip and then covered it with a military screen wire . The real truck had these features so I just duplicated everything . The hose as I remember was made from Plastruct T B 1 and rode on an axle I made so it would spin . The hose itself was salvaged telephone wire and painted Brown - Red with some acrylic paint I got at Michiaels . Meanwhile the tank was massaged until the finish was almost slick . I then used Testors Metalizer Aluminum and then mounted it to the chassis . The engine is indeed the Ford Gas engine . It represents a 534 and with some scratchbuilding results in a very realistic powerplant . The air cleaner isn't exact nor is the oil reserve tank . A Ford Shop manual will spell out the inaccuracies . Most of our Fords were using Catipilliar 3808 V- 8's . Still we had a couple of gas trucks . I just took the easy way out and decided to use the kit engine . In Virginia at least until 2007 we had both a city licence and an inspection sticker on the winshield . Some localities still have the city sticker like Hanover county where these trucks spend most of their " Off Time " . If you look closely I reduced a inspection sticker and the county licence decal we STILL have to display . Did I answer everyones questions ? E- mail me if not . Ed Shaver -
Several thousand dollas later we find the model builder still going to Hershey , and the Kruse auctiuons in search of decent G T O Parts ! Ed Shaver

Hey kids , mabye George 53 can answer this as he used to work for de General . I have been trying to figgure out how to attach the splash pans , ( the pieces that go behind the bumpers ) on either end of the car. The instructions don't spell it out but anybody thats done Body and Fender can clearly see whhere these pieces are headed . This is almost as much fun as the time when I was 18, and working in a shop where I had to rig up the hidden headlights in a 69 Camaro R S . Ed Shaver

Howdy , I don't often build this size truck but I figgured some of you would like to see a model of a real truck we use or at least di here in the Mid Atlantic region of the U S In the cold season . It's a model of a truck I actually drove too back in 1998 . It was the last C O E ford as the last Ford was a " Pump - Out " truck used strictly for extracting left over oil in underground tanks . It was a Louisville Conventional I drove on ocassion . The tank was entirely scratch built using Evergreen .015 sheet rolled over .060 baffles divided equaly inside . I then made the protruding ends using Bondo and a template . The decals were made by the company that does signs for Woodfin Oil here in Richmond Virginia too. Ed Shaver

Hey Emo , as a recovering Alcoholic , drug user and smoker , it aint worth the hassles man .......... I spent my time in the local jails in my youth , never did any serious time till I moved to Los Angles where I was told either go to A A and dry out or have a felony . I went as directed by the court and dried out Cold Turkey . I still smoked and that in itself led to the health issues I suffer from today . E- mail me direct at my Yahoo , i'll give you the details of the Texas Penal System ! edshaver@ymail . com Ed Shaver

Actually Bill. there really is . Theres approximately bout fifteen feet between the front of the building and the tip of the island . The Preston street side , actually the front of the building is only about thirty feet away from the building . I can't see where the street was ever widened out either . Third Avenue dead ends now . It used to cross over what is now Interstate - 95 . You can go behind the building and you can look down to the Interstate from there . To get back over to Downtown Richmond , you have to go back to First Avenue and procede south . Thats the closest overpass. Ed Shaver

Is that why you dislike Ford Cars George ? Ed Shaver Terry , nice job on a REAL CAR !

Adam, I looked around the link . Some of the pieces were to me , well " Chunky " . Im sure they meant well too. Iv'e seen some of Scale Equipment's stuff first hand from the Foothills I P M S Show this year in Charlotte N C or should I say Hendersonville . regardless, The overall diorama is good , to me. I'll still scratchbuild a lot of stuff as I think I can do a better more realistic job . i was offered on a couple of ocassions the opportunity to visit and buy from some resin casters soda machines . I beleive Capt Bondo gave me the links too. I looked at what was there and decided to scratch build what I needed . Ther stuff looked good too. The one item that really stands out is the hydraulic lift . I hope you didn't make it as the thing is a scale several inches too thick ! You're holding up a plastic model , not the Titanic . The tool boxes look very nice however and if I were in the market for a Snap- On box , circa 1985, yep I'd buy a couple ! The thing to remember when you're doing a diorama is watch with a " Conservative eye " ! What may look good on the shelf dosen't always translate when it gets glued to the diorama base . Carefully scale your brain out to the size you are working on ! I mean it ! When I'm doing Doll Houses , I am usually asked to work in 1-12th scale , totaly diferent than 1-24th scale too. What I can get away with in a larger scale dosen't nessesarilly mean you can get away with it in a smaller dimension . Course too, these are just my random thoughts from an aging , " OVER THE HILL HIPPY FREAK " . Thanks for sharing the garage with us ! Ed Shaver

Harold , you did it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I tell ya ya really did it too! Have you ever thought of having Mr Obsessive show his Cougar me with my G M C L' Universalle van and then you at the same time with your Packard ? I think that would be something unique for the Showcase . Get back to me and lets dissuss the posibilities . Anyone else ever scratchbuilt or done a Detroit Experimental , lets have a photo show of all of everyones work together . I don't want a contest , this is simply a chance to show off what each one of us has . Ed Shaver

Thank you everyone for the kind words . Amoco stuff is collecable , just not as out there as say Texaco stuff. Im looking foranything from a very local company called Crown . Their refinery was and stillis by the way at the shoreline of the Houston Ship Channel . They retailed in Houston , Virginia , Maryland and some of North Carolina . The company reorganized under bankruptcy protection and I think they now just retail in Maryland under the Fas-Fare logo . Ed Shaver
