  1. Jeff, what plans do you have for a chassis ? 1966 was the first year for the new " I " Beam suspension . A M T did the 60-63 trucks , but remember they had a simple straight axle . Ed Shaver
  2. Mark , I was selling Pontiacs new that year ! My how time flies ......... your take on the disaterous Re- hash of what was at one time a halfway decent Promo kit was spot - On ! I too wish the people at A M T or whatever they wish to be refered to as these days would realise that just dumping out a trash job reflects a lack of concern for their company . This in turn shows potental customers that we don't even care about a return customer as well ! No wonder Revell is getting all of A M T's former customers ! Ed Shaver
  3. I wonder how this would have helped Wyllis Overland when this was a " New car " ??? Ed Shaver
  4. Most interesting Dec! I certainly would never have thought to have used such materials . I have however heard of some of the rail road scene builders using such products though now that you mention it . Course too, thats who has been the most influental in my diorama building , the archecture and rail road model builders . Ed Shaver
  5. Eugene , uh , theres Model haus, Rwplicias and Miniatures of Maryland , but they make specific lenses for specific cars. You would't call Bob Drake Ford reproductions needing 1940 Studebaker taillights . Bob handles tail lights for Fords 1932- 53. Uh have you considered going to michiaels and buying a quart of Clear casting resin amd perhaps making some of your own ? For flat lenes , take ,015 Evergreen clear sheet and tint your own using some good ole square bottle metallic Red paint from the back side . Use epoxy or Elmers to adhere the lens . Short of that neighbor , I aint got any mo sugestions . Ed Shaver
  6. Forest, I've seen lots of Donn Yost's work . Not only are the D V D's a good buy , Donn is straight up front and to the point . I like that . You just don't see people willing to be the person he is too. Yep , he gets four hubcaps from me ! Ed Shaver
  7. Mike , I own a 1953 Ford Panel delivery and they weigh about 400 more pounds more than a comparable Ford Pick up. Mine actually came with a stock yet needing a total overhaul 100 H P ford Flathead in it . I pit a slightly used 53 Mercury Block in it's place . I have to tell ya pound for pound , that truck has done very very well. First and second gear will keep up in most traffic conditions . In third , it drops some but still keeps up to 50 M P H . I'm running a 3 : 90 - 1 rear so highway speeds of today are limited to around 55 . Now I aquired the truck in 1982. Iv'e put a good 100,00 miles on it since as I have been accross the United States five times in it ! Ive had numerous problems with the Ford Transmission . Still, the motor although using oil still performs . Id be hapy to put my Flat head up against any S O H C Ford in an endurence run . Yes , the more modern S O H C will out run it speed wise but outlast ? Umm, I doubt it ! Ed Shaver
  8. I dunno how to do any of this nonsense so I guess that leaves more room for everyone else . Ed Shaver
  9. Gee, I look forward to da educational shows on T V Lan like Beverly Hill Billies , Bonanza, Sanford an Son just to name a few ! Ed Shaver - or should I be Ed G Sanford . The " G " stands for great Junker man !
  10. Brent, with some practice you can get a decent job using Alclad Aluminum paint . I think you could use the Tri- Power from a Monogram/ Revell G T O and put them on an A M T engine , vice virsa too. As for the El Pontiao or what ever , George has it down . I think he may have done this a time or two ! Ed Shaver
  11. Chuck, I must say that already you get my vote for " Rod of the Year " ! First I know for a fact as I still have a few select issues of Honk and Hotrod from the 40's and fifties . Not all rides were Flat head V- 8 powered . I have several vintage photos I really should download to show ya'all some of the early Chevrolet 6 and Plymouth speed equipment that was found in the speed shops in the Southern California region . In case ya havent discovered this , Clifford Engineering still makes speed equipment for both the Ford and Chevrolet six cylinders . Meanwhile you have taken a page from the early magazines , Roto - Gravure green pages I might add too. This car deserves to be seen and I wish you the best on this build ! Ed Shaver
  12. Jerry , I would say that you have been looking at Tilt wall construction common to builders in both Houston and Dallas Texas . Least thats what that picture says to me at least ......... Ed Shaver
  13. Terry, I had actually forgotten just how wierd that car looked . I actually had a old issue of a Honk magazine wherein that car was , but I dunno where it is nowadays . Ya couldn't tell what color cars were in Honk as the ink was green or just ole B & W . They described the colors to us then ! Ed Shaver
  14. This subject was actually hashed out in the " OTHER " magazine about fifteen years ago . I think I still may have that issue in the attic too. Monograms Chevelle barely inched out A M T's Chevell , but it was by a slim margin . The author was actually refering to things like the depth of the engraving on the door panels and the shape of the grille opening. I have the origional issue of the Monogram Chevelle somewhere m just never got around to building it . I guess I should as I sold a couple of them new when I was in the car business back in the day too. I drove a silver one with a red interior , automatic , P B , P S and the stripe delete . I always thought the 1969 was a much prettier car though . Ed Shaver
  15. Peter, I totally agree with what Tim just said ............. Ed Shaver
  16. Truth be told , I have never seen a C O E dumper before . I bet it rides like the oil truck I drove at Woodfin oil -- owwhh!!!! Ed Shaver
  17. Dec, first welcome to Model Cars Magazine forum . Interesting truck there . It looks similar to a Morris truck , A friend of mine who by the way passed away years ago in Texas used to restore Morrisis . He had several wagons and a couple of Panel deliveries . What did you construct the walls and so forth from ? How bout getting the truck out of the shop so we can see what ya'all drive there ? Ed Shaver
  18. J, remember that this kit dates itself back to the early 1950's In fact the early renditions of Pyro's Aurburn , and Lincon didn't even provide chrome plated parts . You betcha theres going to be some fit problems with a kit this old ! I have one and eventually. I'll get around to building it . Sure the Monogram 1941 is lightyears ahead of the Linburg 48, but remember the tool and die experence gained in the years hence the introduction of the Pyro/ Linburg 48. Look I remember multipiece bodies and the early Revell Chebbies too. I also wowed over the A M T annuals with engines in them ! Bubba , weve learned a wail of a lot and yes we still have a lot of "Turkey kits still being re- issued " Why , don't ask me , I just sit here and read what ya'all profuse . I scratch build 80 % of whats in my collection anyway . If I don't like somthing , I just get out my can of Bondo and sheet plastic and go to town . Still J . I like what you have done with a very difficult to work with kit ! I think you deserve an award ! Ed Shaver
  19. Actually , yes now that I think about it ! I was at Michiaels this Saturday buying sketch books for myself and my son . I saw some items in the craft sections that could have yielded radiator material . I cant exactly remember where but they have skads of items this time of year . For example , I saw some small sleds I can give away as diorama gifts to friends . Ed Shaver
  20. I like it , it's a REAL KAR , so dats dat !!! Ed Shaver
  21. Terry , you sir have inspired me to do better, more extensive work on models over the years . While i'm known for my gasoline pumps , I have over the years enjoyed the pictures I have seen of your work . Keep it up ! Ed Shaver
  22. Edward , yes ! Theys the ones too........... never did see where they really did anything to fit on the 66 . I wound up kind of modifying the rear spash pan as the fit of the back bumper was real sorry too. I guess I need to post a picture of the finished wagon in Under Glass now . I just did it as a stock 283 with a three speed manual " Po mans car " . Soon as I finish foiling it and applying licence plates , mabye I can show ya'all what I did . Ed Shaver
  23. Sam , your photographic skills are astounding ! I think you and Jerry , ( Luke 57 ) should do a tutorial on the subject here . I belive some model builders would benifit from this too. Ed Shaver
  24. I guess we will have to petition on the addition of an interior ! Heck I'lll add the entire kit as I get tired of hacking up kits just to do a body too . Oh and in addition , a decent BRUCK MOTA TOO ! Ed Shaver
  25. O K , I'll teack ya woew to do come elcheapo wheel houses . Go get a section of clothes rod . Take the clothes rod and slowly heat a piece of Evergreen Syyereene over the wood rod . The best to use is about .015 sheet . NOW FOR THE SIDES : Take a piece of . 040 sheet and Super Glue that to the shaped Rounded wheel house . Round over the edges and finish off with some Bondo . Give me a P - M if this proves too over yer head . They call me a fabricator for a reason ! Ed Shaver
