Thanks for the kind words everyone. Yeah this kit was definitely very difficult. I actually had to fill and block sand this one pretty aggressively to get all the bumps and ridges out. The buyer also asked for hood pins, so I fabricated something quick:

I can officially call this finished now, and finally. I started this back last July, starting from the Road and Track Revell kits from the `80`s. The kit took alot, and I mean ALOT, of work to get it to this point. I made alot of modifications to the body to try to get it to a convincing shape. If I had more time, I would`ve done even more with the roof line and A pillars. The suspension was lowered probably about 4-5 scale inches in the front, and about 2 or 3 in the back. The tires are the "skinnies" from the Corvette/Camaro Revell kit. I also needed to add alot of details that you wouldn`t expect. For instance, there was no radiator hose connecting the radiator to the engine. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the comments guys. Finally got the replacement decals on. They aren't quite the right size, but they are better than no stripes. Just have to paint on the emblems now.

This is a really old one, and I think this is the only picture I have of this one. It was built from the Lindberg kit back when you could still find it on the shelves. I have about 5 more of these kits lying around, and hope to get to them sometime. I have owned 5 real 1:1 Firehawks in my lifetime, and currently own a 2001, which should give everyone a little insight into my user name.

Here is a `91 Formula I built. For some reason, this is one of my favorite models in my display. I think it is a very convincing replica when built up nicely:

Here is an `86 I built based on a car I almost bought 15 years ago or so:

Are Duplicolor auto-spary paints any good?
Hawk312 replied to Austin T's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I used Duplicolor on a bunch of my big vettes, including the one in the Big Scale Beauty article in my sig. I`ve always had great results. I`ll concur with everyone else about the primer. Lately, I have actually been using cheap Krylon primer, like you would find in Wal Mart, underneath the Duplicolor. I have had some issues with some two tone paint jobs, but that is only if the colors are two different brands (ex. my Mustang with Model Master Wimbeldon White and Duplicolor Metallic Blue stripes). If the brands dont match, I noticed they can pull away from any masked separation lines once you have several coats of clear on top. -
Any chance that the re-release of the `78 Trans Am contains both bird decals as in the original issue?

GT 350 decals in 1/12 scale. What to do?
Hawk312 replied to Hawk312's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Ahhh...that would explain why ctrl-f and "mustang" only returned 1 result. :D Thanks! -
GT 350 decals in 1/12 scale. What to do?
Hawk312 replied to Hawk312's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Nice find Curt. Can you help me find it on their site? I`m not seeing it for some reason. -
So guys,I am soon about to wrap this up after only 5 months. This thing has fought me tooth and nail the entire time, and I can`t wait to get it off my bench. There were no serious fitment issues, as long as you don`t mind a boxy, inaccurate, undetailed finished product. But there was no way I could leave it this way, and it has gone under a lot of modification. Many, many things were changed. Here are some preview pics. Hopefully I will get some good sun and get better pics and start a real completed thread.

GT 350 decals in 1/12 scale. What to do?
Hawk312 replied to Hawk312's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks guys. I don`t think masking and shooting them is an option at this point, though. It is completely together now, plus I am waaaaaaaayyyyyyyy over as far as time on this project. I think I am just going to try to find someone who is willing to print a set off. -
GT 350 decals in 1/12 scale. What to do?
Hawk312 replied to Hawk312's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks guys. I think the decals on that RC body will be to light to work on this model, as the hood/roof/trunk stripes are dark blue. Mike, I would definitely be interested if your friend is able to print a set. I think the customer would be willing to pay at least a little bit for his trouble. -
Let`s say you were building a very rare kit for someone, perhaps Revell`s 1/12 `65 Shelby GT 350 Mustang, and when the GT 350 decals disintegrated within seconds of hitting water, what would you do? :( The kit decals are completely unusable. I have never printed decals, so I don`t think that will be an option. I am thinking maybe there are some RC Shelby bodies that come with the decals or stickers, but I haven`t been able to find any. Anyone know if anybody makes these on the aftermarket? I mostly build GM in large scale, so this is new territory for me. Thanks.

OOOOOOOOOhhhhhhhhhh....I remember that one from the "other" forum way back when. I still love it!

World's fastest RC car

Here is is in action: At that speed, I would think normal plastic wheels would just shatter from the centrifugal force. -
Chi Town Hustler Funny Car (the new one)
Hawk312 replied to Hawk312's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks guys! Thanks for clarifying the paint for everyone Brett. Don, no clear over the decals. I`ve never had much luck doing that. -
Ha...I just stopped by this forum to search for a thread on making wheels, and here it is right at the top. Can you expand on what you mean by " shaped the plastic accordingly"? I assume you started with a flat solid block of styrene stock? Any ideas on what you would do if you don`t have a base rim to base your wheel off of? I am trying to replicate this wheel, in large scale of course :

Can I see your 1/8 vettes?
Hawk312 replied to dryvr12's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nice vettes guys! I have all of them except the silver one, and hope to build them all some day....whenever I get some free time. Very nice! How did you do the red striping? -
Looking great Gregg!! As far as aftermarket parts, I would like to see wheels and a hood to convert it to a Super Snake:

That`s going to look baaaaaadddd!
