Two of the Craziest "Funny Cars" ever kitted by Revell....
Scott Colmer replied to RatRod's topic in Model Cars
What a great set, John! You really did these favorites justice by bring some great box art to life. I've always liked both of these models. It's awesome that you replicated them with so well! Scott -
Did that job in high school. Me and all the other gearheads. I started in 78 or 79. It was summer during the gas crisis. Lines down the street. Remember odd and even days? While the gas pumped we: washed the windshield and mirrors, checked the oil, coolant, transmission, air in the tires and filled what was low, and emptied the ashtray. My favorite was the people who tapped on the windshield if you missed a spot.

Us leftys will all be leaving on the mother ship when it comes. Shhhhh. Actually I like being a lefty. It made me partially ambidexterious. It helps to have a additional coordinated hand when building stuff. Clerks. I like the check out clerk because that is one more employed person who I am justifying. Clerks who can't help. Well ummm... Today's gripe Our cars got broken into last night. Sitting in our long driveway, right below our bedroom window. The dogs were inside and did not make a peep. They took the remote to the driveway gate, which I had left open (duh!), the key to the mailbox, and Nani's Ipod. The gate was easily reprogrammed. The key was a pain. Our mail is on hold and the USPS charges 50 bucks to get the key replaced. The robber smoked in the cars and left behind a butt and 1 house slipper. I gave it to the Sheriff when they came out. Sure they will do a fill DNA profile. Not. At least the Sheriff was sympathetic. He looking for a 1 shoed smoker listening to a pink Ipod.

1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
Scott Colmer replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
This is looking really nice. Glad to see you are back on it. I feel your pain on getting the engine to line up. Seems like every time I assume something will fit later, it doesn't. Will the drive shaft still line up after the adjustments? Scott -
Building season is over for me...
Scott Colmer replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I get what you mean, Harry. I have a list of house stuff waiting for me too. Just a few more commitments to finish up. Enjoy the time off. I lurked on many of your builds.... errr modeling building threads. Thanks for binging us along and showing me, at least, the fun that can be found in the older subjects. Your work is top drawer. Art Malone? Great model as always! I always enjoy following your threads! -
Bad, Bad neighbor. Been going on for almost a year. We will call him Mick. He was a good neighbor. So much that I would actually tell him how lucky we felt that he lived next door to us. The was always pleasant and helpful. Loaned me anything I needed, which I returned in the same condition. He even gave my wife a part time job while she looked for a teaching position. (He was fine when she got the position and left, so we are sure that is not the reason.) If I saw him working on something I would go over and help. We even raked our leaves that fell in his yard. Then he started playing his music really, really loud. We have acre lots and he filled ours with his rock radio station. We let it go because we thought it was a passing thing. Then one Sunday morning at 7am he woke us up with the blaring music. (The teaching job my wife got was far away. She would get up at 5am and return home at 6:30pm and grade papers until she went to bed. Sleeping in on weekends was precious to her.) My wife went first, and met the neighbor from the other side of us walking over as well. (Remember - 1 acre lots!) They could not find Mick so she returned to our house. The noise continued, so I went over. I found Mick in the side yard adjacent ours with the other neighbor - music still blaring. My assumption was that this neighbor had already said something to Mick. I asked Mick if he was going to turn the music down. He said "No" and he "resented me telling him to turn it down." I said I am asking him to turn it down. Mick said "Request denied! I asked what had happened. He was the best neighbor. He said the music is not too loud and that we are just light sleepers and that he was not breaking any laws. I told him he was. Mick said call the cops. When I told my wife what happened she got upset and went into his front yard and turned the music down. I was pretty upset about that because she should not be touching his property. We let it go for the rest of the weekend figuring he would calm down and go back to they way he was. The next weekend Mick started again so early that we were woken up by the radio church services before the music. I called the cops. They did talk to him. So he started at 7am with a leaf blower in the spot closest to our bedroom window (maybe 15 leaves there.) followed by a chain saw to trim a 3ft bush. I went over to talk to Mick. He was irritated that I called the cops (??!!) and that my wife had gone into his yard and turned down the music. I apologized for my wife and OFFERED TO BUY HIM AN IPOD for his music. He said no thanks . We shook hands and he said he really did not feel like cutting that bush anyway. I was very proud of myself for diffusing the situation before it go worse. The next weekend Mick put the speakers in his back yard at 7:30 am and started the music. My wife went over to see what it was this time. He just shook his head and drove away. We no longer talk to Mick and have endured lawnmowers, chainsaws, wood chippers, etc at 7am. We even let the music go. Two Saturdays ago, it was blasting louder then usual. My wife went over to get the address so we could call the police and found that he had pointed the speakers towards our house and LEFT! I was so mad that I hung up while I was on hold to the police. I did not want to go on a rant and seem like part of the problem. Last Saturday I called the police when the music was so loud we had to turn the TV up to hear it. I told my wife, we better sleep downstairs on the couch because he's going to run some power tool at 7am. Sure enough Sunday 7am Mick had his riding mower going back and forth along the DIRT area next to the chain link fence near our bedroom window. He let it sit idling while he raked a small pile of leaves. This Saturday, he ran his diesel bus RV from 7am to 8am. He was sure to load it up so It shakes our house. He ran the lawn tractor at the same time. Then the music started at 9am. It was in the house and every part of the yard. We called the Sheriff to ask for direction dealing with Mick. They said the the power tools are enforced by the county code, but they can start giving him fines for the music. We explained why we feel he is harassing us. But it looks like at this point, we have to find another means of getting help for the use of the power tools. The county code says you can use leaf blowers, etc starting at 7am. But harassment laws are left vague enough to allow for activities such as his. This morning at 7am was some banging on something, then more banging at 7:30 followed by 15 minutes of chainsaw. This was supposed to be our last house, our dream house and we really do not want to move. But the sanctity of our home is being driven away. Every Friday when I drive down to our house, I pray that the Mick's RV is gone and we will not have to deal with him for the weekend.I have some video recordings of his blaring music and morning power tool usage. Street justice is a bad idea. I think he wants a confrontation so he can use it later to defend his actions. It will be a bummer if we have to hire a lawyer to get this guy to leave us alone. Scott

This is a great collection. I followed a good number of these build-ups. My favorites are also the vacuformed based models. An excellent body of work overall. Scott

Now this is a great thread. It is amazing I lived through my youth. Ive got a few good ones. Here is the most stupid I grew up in a small town that had lots of playgrounds for our hot rod antics. Lots of dirt roads just out side the small down town. Some wind through the old arsenal and some wind through the refinery. So Saturday nights war spent crusing Main and then taking excursions out to the play roads for dirt drifting and donuts. Craving donuts one night, we headed out to a dirt road out by the refinery and I set the RX3 into a tight orbit. If I remember right it was a full house with all seats occupied. It was hilarious. The dust started to rise and pretty soon we were enveloped in our own brown cloud. We were hysterical. I finally brought the ship to a stop fearing an off road excursion into the nearby field. As we caught our breath and the dust slowly evaporated into the night, just inches from my drivers side window appeared a huge yellow refinery pipe, sitting quietly and patiently at exactly head level. Why do you build models?
Scott Colmer replied to clovis's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For me its the creative process. I LOVE custom built cars- hot rods , customs, and race cars. The design and engineering are both emotional and fascinating. It's been like that for me since I was a little kid. If I had the money, I would build 1:1 cars. I don't, so I take out my desires on scale models. Scott -

Excellent work on the latch, Chris! The video is too cool to watch. Thanks for the tip on the train springs. I ALWAYS learn from this thread. Scott -
I used to subscribe to Hot Rod back in the late 70s and the 80s. I still have about 60 pounds of those magazines. Just recently my Dad was subscribing to HR. I took a look and liked what I saw. The format is punchy like a gossip mag which makes for an easy read. The feature cars are about as unique as you are going to find in an auto mag. I like that they evaluate them on looks, bang for the buck, drivability, etc. Usually there is at least one feature car I really like. I subscribe now too. I had Rod and Custom for about a year before that. Not much variation there. When one of the contributing editors included a political rant in an article it was time to let them know I was leaving. Oh, dang. I missed that. From what I read, the Judge that got hit got a couple broken ribs and some staples in his head, but he will be OK. Looks like the car did not fare well either. http://blogs.hotrod.com/tragedy-104161.html#axzz2rXGXOmY2

I agree Randy. My fotki account took me down to two sharing options. They have not returned my message. Grrr. I'll use the site posting options. Sorry about the blurriness. I was disappointed when I opened these. I really have to learn to take my time with hand held pics. The last one is Bob Romero's amazing VW funny car replica. I am huge fan of Bob's work. He is one of those builders that spends his time on a project and turns out incredible work. Scott
