My Firebird took a spill
FordWagonNut replied to Nick Winter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Was it the Rockford File bird? Well in the TV show his car was always in the shop for body damage. So I guess your version is living up to its true name. -
I'm working on the 2006 GT500-H version of that kit now. I was really shocked when everything fit so well. I am still working on painting the body, monkeyed that up. So its soaking now..... Be that as it may, I am getting the other kits based off the same kit. They just come out really nice.

Shopping online for kits
FordWagonNut replied to FordWagonNut's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks everyone for the advice. I will look into these sites. -
Just wondering where some of you guys shop for kits online. I went to my local Hobby Lobby and Hobby Town, seems like anytime I go there, they have less and less. I really would rather be able to pick up, touch, and just get a feel for what I am buying. However, since I don't really see what I like at both dealers, I'm going to try this route. So any sites that you recommend, had good service with, good choices, things like that. Thanks guys

Ok, first off I pulled a stupid. I am building Revells '06 Mustang GT500-H. I have not painted a black car in a long time, 10 years or so. I choose Tamiya's paint. From what I have read on here, people seem to like it. Problem was, the Hobby Town only had semi gloss black. I figured I could use that with a few coats of Tamiya's clear coat. However, it did not turn out was well as I thought it would. It just looks like semi gloss black that has a lot of Armor-All on it. So I'm just going to strip the paint and start fresh. So I am asking opinions on rattle can black. Suggestions, ideas, anything. I would like to do the Revell '66 Mustang GT500-H to match the '06 I am doing now. Thanks guys!

I like it! However, would it be FWD, AWD, or RWD? I went to trade my '96 Lincoln Town Car for another Town Car in 2004. The Town Car the Ford dealer had was not as well kept once I took a look under the hood. They had me look at Crown Vics and Marquis's, still did not find what I wanted. I said to the salesman "If you still had a RWD two door personal car like the Thunderbird, I would buy one." He laughed a little, said all they have are the Mustangs. I never saw myself as a "Mustang" kind of guy. All my cars have been 70s Thunderbirds, LTD's, and a few dotted 80s/90s full size cars. So here I am, 24 at the time trading in a showroom new '96 Town Car for a 2004 black Mustang. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Mustang but if Ford had something like the Galaxie, I would have more than likely bought that.

You got him! I love it when he catches up with Rodger Moore, he walks up to him and says "What are you, some kind of doomsday machine?" They used a TON of '73 Impalas and Caprices (a few '72s in the backround) in the movie, along with some pimp Cadillacs, and Glasstron boats. A great diorama could be made if you had a few '72s and '73s Impalas, also the '70 Ford Galaxie. Few parked by a bridge trying to stop James Bond and "Kanaga's" bad guy in the boat. Sorry to highjack your thread ML.

HA HA HA HA! First thing I thought of when I saw that picture, J.W. Pepper from James Bond "Live and Let Die". I think "J.W.-ah" was also in "The Man With The Golden Gun". Anytime I see that part with him in it, I just bust out laughing.

How do I get the old format back
FordWagonNut replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Firefox has been great with me. I started to used it in late 2004 early 2005, I have NEVER had a problem with it. As for the format, I like it. It's not as bad as it first comes off, just like someone said its like a new car, gota get used to it. -
I think I'm gona go that route myself.

I really like the '69 black coupe. With the red lines, it looks really sharp!

I saw some of the sanding sticks at Wal Mart, wasn't sure about'm. I will get a few, see how they work with me. I work for a chain auto store (yea for graduating college!) and we carry 3-M sand paper. Might as well use it to my advantage. Thanks guys for the input.

Doh! Forgot to say before or after primer. But yea, its before primer. I am filling in holes on a hood of a '76 Pontiac Firebird, making it into a Esprit version. I saw another member on here doing a Rockford Files Firebird. That alone pushed me into doing one my self since I have been wanting to do one for about 15 years. Thanks for your help!

Ok, so I have dived into some good size body work on two of my currant projects. I have never really gone this far, so I'm still new at it. I have been using Testors package of sand paper for years and have always been happy with it. But since my projects are covering major body areas, I would like even smother surface. I am afraid of a "ghost like" sand marks showing up in the paint work. What do you guys use? Grades? 3-M paper? Ideas?

Top Gear, the end is nigh?
FordWagonNut replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have been watching TG for about three years. I discovered it when I was living in the college dorms, been hooked ever since. What I find what pulls me into the show, its how the three interact. You can see how they feed off one another and their humor is magnified by it. I also really like to watch how they take regular cars/trucks and just beat them to a pulp. Its a great show in its own right. It will truly be missed when it ends. -
MMMM, never thought of that before. I might have to give that a shot.

I really like the interior on this one, that red "fits" it.

Bravo! Really like how that woodgrain came out. I gota figure out what to use on my '93 Roadmaster Estate from the Modelhaus when it comes.
-
For tinting windows. I have been using Model Masters "Clear Transparent Black Window Tint". I have had really good luck with the stuff. I have read on here, some others have not though. The trick to this stuff (what I found) light spray, let it get tacky, then another light spray. The more layers, the darker it gets.

I just found this thread. I have been a "Rockford" fan for years. I was just born when the last season ended, so like some of us here, only have been able to see it as a rerun. I now own all the seasons on DVD. I am also starting my own Pontiac Firebird Esprit project . I bought a '76 MPC kit Firebird Formula kit when I was about 16-17 years old (i'm 30 now) and have planned on doing a Rockford Firebird once I felt my skills were at a proper level. I also saw that you stated your 13. My jaw hit the floor, your build level is well above your age. Keep up the great work!

I really dig that color. Is that a dealer tag near the left tail light?
