What Would You Do?
diymirage replied to FloridaBoy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
what is the cut of age for the juniors ? not that it really mathers but in my opinion a dad (or mentor) can give some advice, tips or even help IF the person building it is yonug enough having said this, "some help" should not consist more then 2 % of the actual work my point it, it is OK for the dad the help the boy (which i think is where you are struggling) but there is no way we can consider this a case of the dad lending a hand. you did the right thing and i believe you even showed grace to the kid by giving him a ribbon. -
welcome back dave a 25 year vacation huh ? you must be in congress anyways you'll find a good comunity here

"stumbles around looking for his shades" yes great paint indeed it is a very nice build personally i didnt think the ford was of any use short of a glorified chicken coupe (get it ,coup??) this is what became of mine
-
is that the ford i spot in the left hand corner of your dio ? that dodge is looking pretty good im taking the day of from it today (jus tput some paint on the rear axle is all) but i am hoping to be persistant on it i just wish i had test fitted everything before painting it looks like i might need to trim the doors and repaint them in order to open/close decent

dodge L-700 semi
diymirage replied to diymirage's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
it wasnt untill after i placed the cab on the frame to get a quick peek of what it looked like i realised how much more lil parts will need to be painted red including said hinges, cover plates and sections of rear rim (i thought they would go on the back and therfore be painted black) -
it reminds me of my drums they are made by a company called pacific but sold under the DW name in all honousty, they are junk, not worth the wood they are made out of as a result i refuse to ever again invest a penny in anything DW not per se because i had a bad expierience with DW but because i believe your standards are only as high as the worst thing you allow your name to be stamped on. i kinda feel the same way about lindburg i guess i understand they are not too blame for the lousy tooling BUT they did decide to put thier name on it. having said that, i cant deny i dont like the challenge this kit poses
-
like the title says, i finally got started on my dodge L700 tiltcab semi it came as a kit with a busted up ford and a flatbed trailer. this is definatly a challenging kit to say the least. it is my first and very likely last lindberg kit the instructions are not very good, the parts ar not numbered and there is massive flashing on the parts. having said that, it is a fun build never the less. as far as paintsceme goes i will go with a flatblack frame, red cab, tan interior and green engine here are some pictures of my progress and just for the heck of it, what it would look like with a hemi i am going to go for an older look, like the truck has actually been out on the road for the last several years, so a slightly weathered paint job, bare metal showing on the steps and maybe even some rust i know it didnt show well in the pictures but the engine is pretty nasty, i think it might be sweating some oil (it is a dodge afterall) this is my first dodge truck and my first semi in a long while so as always, comment and suggestions are welcomed

that looks like a fun project i have a question though, on the pick of the SA it says "emergency ambulance" on the side what does a non-emergency ambulance look like ?

Dodge L700
diymirage replied to Rick Schmidt's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
im building one of theses in red and this one will be used for refference -
i think the part that will be the most challenging (i believe you said "this is where im stuck at" ) would be to graft both sections of the cab together this calls for a combination of styrene (to make the transisionairy body panel) and puddy (to smoothen it out) i have styrened before but i've never puttied a model (at least none that i am willing to show) but hang in there, there is many a member on here who will be able to give you good avice on how to acomplish this my question is, what will you do with the bed ? shorten it? or are you going to extend the frame ? or just redneck it and build a bed out of lollypop sticks ?
-
you mean in the sreen name ? but this one has survived 8 different boards i havent even had a mirage in over 4 years hows about i just make up a siggy ?
-
my plans for november are : finish up the GTX (just some detail painting) dodge L700 (just shot the cab yesterday, frame and engine are build, nothing else is done) car hauler trailer (untouched) chevy bel aire (body is painted, rest untouched) and of course put some time in on the deathracer

die lak ziet er prachtig uit mischien een beetje te goed voor een skoda het is nog een fiat panda model of niet ? (als ik me niet vergis waren de luchthappen van mijn kadett eigenlijk van een skoda/fiat )
-
awesome man, i really apreciate the effort
-
what keeps my cat away from the spray paint booth is the sound of the compressor kicking in
-
that thing looks awesome man good job you dont happen to have the stock wheels that came with the kit left do you ? i bought my nephew this kit and he broke one of the rims
-
i dont really have a time that works best but i prefer to build during the wifes shows, ill just roll my little desk right up to where she is watching teh telly and work right beside here
-
welcome aboard dylan its always nice to see younger kids staying out of trouble and actually doing something cool you'll find a ton of good people here willing to give you any advice you might need having said that, dont take this the wrong way, but i dont think its a good idea to build your own diaphragm. those kind of things are really best left to the professionals i have no doubt that you could make an awesome diorama though, but the whole birthcontrol issue is not something to mess with alright, thats enough picking on you you have any models to show ?
-
thanks its is a model indeed i build it not too long ago its part of a lindberg kit which had a dodge L700 truck with a flatbed and this ford on it it was my first attempt at weathering a car and i really liked the way it came out but like everything, just keep at it and you'll figure it out. (here are some more shots of the ford)

looks good, i like the tarp, nice touch but i would suggest trying to age the chain to me it looks like after you found the car last week you went out and bought that chain and put the tarp on it
