Forum Contest Idea
diymirage replied to jsimmons's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
it sounds interesting but by making this anonomous it would mean we cant have any WIP threads about the build and thats a big part of this forum plus, with no WIP how do you know i build the model in the timeframe given and didnt just enter a picture of a model i had sitting on the shelf ? -
you know Michelle, if your gonna be putting me in my place like this you might as well go back to your moms and i KNOW ive seen em in the magazines with red trim on the front, ill look for references
-
but on the other hand, shouldnt the red trim also be present around the headlights? and the little chrome part under the grille should be body colour aswell i think nonetheless its a great looking model

looks like someones has got thier hands on a dodge dart kit but this little hemi isnt going in a dart is it Nick? its allright, you can tell us, what do you have planned for it ? (im guessing something like a miata or an is2gay) -
somehow the front end of this truck does not really scream "happy toys" as much as the trailer does

you know, i cant beleive you just said that to me, i thought we were friends but appearantly were not im really offended now i say good day to you sir I SAID GOODDAY!!! (that would be in the sarcasm font too, if we had one) which brings me to my point, why dont we all agree to post sarcasm in a certain colour ? maybe like the brown i used, that seems like a colour no one can take seriously as a mather of fact, that is the same colour my 1990 opel E kadett was (according to my friends it was painted like that at the factory to hide the rust which the claimed it allready did in the brochure)

Who would be interested?
diymirage replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
is this in bad taste? (if it is ill remove it) as for the badge decals, might i make a suggestion? im my opinion the best way to do this is to print a black rectangle with white letters on clear decal paper because the white wont print it will show the colour of whatever you apply the decal over and this will be...a think strip of BMF (my first attempt at this was the badge on the door of this dodge which reads "426 HEMI RAM" -
Best glue for building a styrene roolcake/chassis
diymirage replied to DWR's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
when i build a rollcage i use regular testors tube glue with any structural building i do there are two main things i do to ensure a good joint 1 make sure all the parts fit nicely, espescially when making rol cages you are putting square ends on round tube i like to trim the bottom of the (for instance) crossbrace so it has a dip that the other tube fits in 2 use metal connectors. at my job we use a lot of manilla tags to mark products every once in a while i will remove the wire from those tags for hobby purposes (they make great fuel or brake lines) i will also use this to strenghten joints by drilling a hole in one part and superglueing a little wire in there then i drill a hole in the other mating surface and so that the wire can go in there aswell, almost like using dowels or bisquits in woodwork projects (this is also a great way to get wayward exhaust pipes to stay on the headers) -
its a trick that is like a public secret most of the older modelers know about it and every once in a while it pops up in a WIP but i dont recal it ever being 'introduced' as a trick i do like the way your lace and marble comes out, would look good on a 70s drag racer, specially in a rainbow colour scheme
-
i might as well quit building, your pumping out all the models i would build anyway i specially like the 71...you should make it a street roaster, something jus barely passable as legal but i can here smokey now "boy, you in a heap of trouble"

Ma's Resin Tires
diymirage replied to steve7119's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Alan is a great guy to deal with and he will help you in any way he can i ordered some M/T sportsmans from him and he even offered to cast me some rims to fit them im sure he would do the same for you if yyou asked -
that is just the best picture of the bunch my boy is 14 months old and he was sitting on my lap the other day while i was working on a model i was sanding down some wheelbacks to make them fit narrow tires, when i was done i moved my attention to something else i looked down and my son had taken a tire and was sanding it in exactly the same way i had been sanding the rim looks like you have a good handle on this and your making good progress my only tip is to have a close look at the two tires mounted on the rear axle, they are directional and both of them are driver side tires simple enoug to fix now but a real pain once the model is done
-
that is a very interesting clolour choice for that model i wouldnt expect it on there but it looks very nice i dont think this would look good on ralleys though, going with aftermarket rollers ?
-
go ahead and send me one or two
-
you mean like this one (i call it chicken of the sea)
-
i gotta tell you Matt, i have mixed feelings about this one the end result is great (though not street legal without plates ) but after seeing the engine come together in your WIP thread...well. i miss it, its a shame we cant see more of it in the finished model even with the hood up a lot of its beauty is hidden
-
that sounds like MPC to me wasnt the monaco i mentioned before MPC ?

need help on scale size
diymirage replied to evilone's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
lets, for fun, use 1:148 as our scale that makes this vehicle 5180 mm long and 2516 mm wide thats 204.9 inches by 99 inches thats 10 inches longer and 12.5 inches wider then an H1 hummer or 3 inches shorter and 23 inches wider then a 69 charger -
great job on building this one, thats for sure as always i dont agree with chips (and your) choice of rims but thats the beauty of building models, you build yours to your liking, i build mine to my liking but i must admit with the smaller rims it looks WAY better then the first set
-
great looking car but i thought all F-1 cars were red ? the two things that impress me most about it is how well the decals lay down (especially on the nose section where there are some odd curves) and the weathering on the tires i remember ages ago working for a scuderia myself and seeing some of the tires after several rounds, short of the sigarette buds that were stuck to the hot rubbers these look dead on

Are real names required or not?
diymirage replied to Mike Kucaba's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i can attest to the fact of those emails going out for a while i "lost"" my name in the siggy and i got the little reminder -
one possibility is the modified stocker car hauler kit i think they came as optional wheels on the 5some ford pickup but they may also have belonged to the spare tires for the race car that didnt come with the set (just the spares) a second option might be the DOH roscoes cruiser, that has some nice deep steelies
