The Cars of Rock 'n' Roll and Country Music
diymirage replied to CorvairJim's topic in Community Builds
finally got some bench time this weekend i managed to chop out the door and i started building the interior parts this was the first time doing something like this so i was a little sketchy about it but so far it seems allright (i still need to fab part of the engine bay so the fender doesnt just hang there) i also removed the from wheel and installed the discbrake which is now read for detailing (thank again Matthew) -
Pros and Cons Some thoughts.
diymirage replied to DRG's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i think a perfect case in point is a certain member here he is younger then most and does great work for his age and expierience level but he got to a point where he would post pictures of his work that was very nice overall but the painted trim was sub par and it brought the entire model down several people commented on it and suggested the use of BMF, something he resisted (which is his good right) fervently for a while then all of a sudden a post pops up in the general section in which he is raving about his firs expierience with BMF my point is that when the critisism was first made he was not happy with it (though the same thing was repeated several times and that might have been part of it) but after he considered it he took on the challenge and now is able to make a better model because of it (since your a preacher ill venture to say that the principle of hebrews 12:11 applies here) and as an awnser to the origenal question, i know that for some of the younger members here (specially the more active ones) the forum seems to be aware of thier age and skill and does take that into account i remember seeing a under glass post by one of these and reading the comment a older builder left them "you have made some great progress since you joined" i think we generally do allright but like mentioned before, intonation is lost in typing so sometimes we are misunderstood -
Building a blown hemi?
diymirage replied to MILD's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
my advise is go for broke, why supercharge a 426 hemi when you can twin turbocharge a supercharged DOHC 426 hemi ? in all seriousness though it almost sounds to me like you are adding a 1/25 blower to a 1/24 block if these are the parts you want to use i think you are going about it the same way i would do but i would double check the scales a 1/24 engine will look fine in a 1/25 chassis and vice versa but you might find that the blower will fit much better on a matching block if you are going to extend the shaft just make it slightly conical , somehow thats the way i envision it -

The coolest police bike EVER
diymirage replied to LDO's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i know what you mean when i was young living in the Netherlands we would take our dirtbikes everywhere and anywhere and we had no respect for the law when the cops would chase us in cars we would take the bikes offroad and that would be the end of it even when they would chase us with bikes we would quickly outmanouvre them since they all had BMWs like so well, at some point they must have caught on to our "evasive tactics" because ill never forget the first time i got chased by a cop on one of thier new rides a honda transalp like this one that was one ride that ended up with me walking home i learned my lesson, i pulled over for those hondas ever since and since were showing cool pics of police bikes, this one cracks me up everytime i can just see that cop thinking to himself "blimey! some'ne knocked ov'r me bloody cicle" -
these are great projects i always enjoy the type of work that in the end no one but you knows (unless you point it out of course) you did a great job on the undercarriage, it looks just like it should: stock

both interiors look great to me

what to use exhaust and air intake
diymirage replied to semijoe's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
my suggestion for the intake is....vacuum hose it will be the perfect look since it is the right material and can be bought very cheaply at your local auto parts store (or order of ebay in a rainbow of colours) for the exhaust im not sure you might be able to bend the kit supplied exhaust or maybe use some styrene rod/tube? normally i would suggest solder but i honoustly dont know if it comes in that size im sure you could get brass rod in the right size, maybe that would do the trick ? (come to think of it, i think i have some aluminum tubing that should be close, its what i used for the side pipes on this car) they might be tough to bend smoothly though -
this is one of your best good to see your improving (specially in your choice of subject matter)
-
looks good you did a great job removing the canvas top, looks very smooth (though revell also sells a 68 charger wich is the exact same body that has a smooth top molded in) now, if i remember correctly, this kit came with an engine...lets see it
-
that is sjaweet i like it
-
i like the paint and the idea of converting the rear to one single wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide rim but i dont like wagon wheels on anything not amish and im not a fan of rubber band tires (just my personal opinion) heres my take on the same kit (for comparison)

diymirage replied to mrmike's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
i never get tired of seeing it are those different rims then what i remember? (also, shoot me a reply to my PM on what plates to use on Ambers ferari) -
id hate to get into the whole "stock" car debat but the charger i have sitting in my garage has not one but (count em) two windshieldwipers on it, even DTM cars (who are about as far removed from thier homolageted namesakes as the nascars of today to thiers) have one wiper just saying as for the hood , thanks dont worry to much about the delay, i have tons of different projects going on and this will not hold me up at all, plenty else to work on
-
that could very well be im not very well schooled in nascar, growing up around formula one, WRC and similar types of racing nascar has always kinda had the feel of amatuer night to me (probably because thier fear of rain, i never could get passed the idea of serious racer car drivers not being skilled enough to race in the rain) but i digress
-
i really like the way this is coming out maybe someone should offer a set of non wrinkled wrinkle wall slicks, for the static model? as for getting a driver, check out the monogram "stock car plus" series they contain one stock car of varried breeds (i know i have a ford in my stash and the pontiac in my avatar was found in one of those kits) a race jack, a large toolcart and a smaller toolbox to sit on top of it, a few very nively molded impact guns, a nascar style fuel can (and oil catch can?) a acetelyn (i think) tank and the board the put the info on in pitlane, oh and a driver (theres a buick on ebay for 18.00 dollars shipped)

i want to say several of the world war II fighter plains ran V12s rolls royce made them (or was that an inline 12?) and they are available from several resin casters aswell as in partspacks in 1/24 or 25 scale (on a side note VAG offered a W12 engine in several of its products including the passat)

What to do now? =/
diymirage replied to Jocache83's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
wait for her to turn 40 and trade her in for 2 20 but in all seriousness, as a man and as a husband we have certain responsibilities and we are called to display sacrificial love now, once all of these responsibilities have been met (the aforementioned roofing, food ect.ect) and there is some moneys left over then you should be able to indulge a bit but keep im mind that life comes in cycles, there are fat times and slim times and the way we carry ourselves through the slim times is what makes the fat times so much more enjoyable. now, if you really want to make a bold move, spend some money on her...buy her some nice jewelry, take her out to dinner and see if that might change her mind...she might just feel neglected or have a look at my avatar my wife has always been suportive of my hobby but ever since i build her that model with her on the hood it can do no wrong -
thanks for the extra info John, this is the kit i have the engine from

it looks more manly then taking a rubber ducky ? but i confess, i DO take my models in the shower with me it is the perfect place to wetsand the paintjob there is a constant stream of nice warm water to keep the mesh from clogging up and clean up afterwards is a breeze -
the detail on these builds is amazing mine dont look anywhere like those but maybe i have a few that can make up for it with raw power ford focus with a blown 572 big block 71 hemi cuda with a log manifold intake from the 396 firepower engine pontiac grand prix, nascar converted into a lowerider with a 302 cross barrel camaro mill 70 challenger with a hemi, nothing to special but the first engine i wired

Model kit I'd love to see
diymirage replied to AK_Invader's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
funny you should mention that, i was just going to suggest getting the opel astra and converting that into the holden, im sure the step from opel to pontiac should be just as easy -
Alan, those look great im glad to see your booking progress
