The Cars of Rock 'n' Roll and Country Music
diymirage replied to CorvairJim's topic in Community Builds
after looking through my stash i found the perfect candidate for this here build (mine will be a rusty chevrolet) its a 1978 monte carlo (from the class action) it has the engine done and had the chassis done, which will now need to be redone to make it lok all rusty, junky and well, chevrolet looking (oh, and ima need to remove the left from tire/wheel) -
thts great news craig
-
man, that looks great (is that the scoop i send you or did i send it to someone else?) i love dusters and this one is on the top of my list
-
it actually looks nice dont see that too often on a acura cool
-
i have applied it both with a brush (straight future) and through an airbrush (mixed with some blue paint for tinting) and both ways worked fine for me it appears to me you are putting on too much at once especially with the airbrush you want to run a high air/future ratio (specially if you have a dual action brush, press it down all the way but only pull it back a little) this stuff takes a while to dry and if you apply a wet coat over a not completly dry coat it will puddle

that flat black sure looks nice i would go with some chrome rims on it though, but thats just personal taste, i find coloured rims just look to pokemon-ish

ly local hobby lobby has a great selection there are always at least five wierd japanese kits (tamiya or bandai or so babi panghan or something) they always carry new releases and they seem to have a thing for re releases, stuff like the hippy hemi, the buick electra and such and though i like shopping on sundays i respect their Christian values and the decision to honour the Sabbath (though i realise that on our callender the Sabbath falls on a saturday the principle of only working 6 days a week where the pagans work 7 still applies) one thing i would mention though (if it hasnt been said allready) with the 30% off models and diecast you can NOT use the 40% off coupon on one of those items

if i told him once i told him a thousand time YOU CANT RUN REGULAR IN THAT CAR...IT WILL DETONATE but do you think they listened ?

sounds to me like you need to clean up your act -
i use the foil/wash method as mentioned above but a second opion might be a silver sharpy and then paint the inside black ? (or maybe apply the black first and then hit the trim with the silver sharpy)

a slight variation of this technique come in handy for those of us who love prostreet rides but dont care for the deep dish centerlines found in just about every prostreet kit a quick search through the partsbox yielded these 5 spoke mags a few minutes of even sanding removes the center and leaves you with a nice deep dish which can them be placed on the 5 spoke (i sanded the front of the 5 spoke to make for a nice clean mating) and tah-daaaaa a nice set of deep dish five spoke mags that will fit the mickey thompson sportsman tires

How do you lower a truck??
diymirage replied to CheaterSlick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
the simplest way to lower the rear is to take the axle and put it on top of the springs rather then the springs on top of the axle you can also sand down the mounting paint of the axle to give it a little more on the front you might be able to turn the spindles upside down but you might have to cut the mounting point of and reglue them on a lower spot this is for street trucks, if your building a lowrider you need to get more radical, open up the bed and Z the frame none of which i can help you with -
just send em to me...ill build em

The Cars of Rock 'n' Roll and Country Music
diymirage replied to CorvairJim's topic in Community Builds
you know, i used to be very deep into the heavy metal and iron maiden was one of my all time favorite bands (one of our favorite drinking games was to have the DJ play a maiden song and the last person to recognize it had to buy a round) so when someone mentioned "the vehicles from ides of march" i started thinking...there aint no vehicles in that song...better yet, there aint no lyrics to it PERIOD google to the rescue....turns out there was this one hit wonder called "ides of march" lol -

allright guys, ive made up my mind and even though i know i really shouldnt but im doing it....im building a chebby from what just may be the most famous contemporary Christmass song ever "rusty chevrolet" by da yoopers i think my favorite part of the song is "i just passed up my left front tire and its getting hard to steer" im thinking of using up my bel air (56 i think) it will be a shadow of red and a very slow build -

R2 69 Plymouth GTX
diymirage replied to Evil Appetite's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
you should have just gona and tubbed the 1:1 car -
that looks very nice not sure about the "not liking bodykits" and still going with the sideskirts and rear apron....are they molded in or was there a reason you added them ? and at the risk of going off topic when i first moved here o had a 94 mirage that i put a 96 (i think) talon front bumper on aswell as aftermarket skirts from a 98 eclipe and a WRX scoop
-
my partsbox is small enough i can remember what came from where....mostly not to mention that a lot of builds are made with certain kits in mind so i get the parts from the kit before they even hit the partsbox

for shizzle ? id love to see a boxart of this kit (pretty sure i can imagine a car on a grex background with a blue banner with the name on it...seems to be the R2 way but still) i just might have to get me one or two of these maybe even a pic orso ?
