  1. Easy-Off Oven Cleaner (Yellow can) usually works pretty well on most types of paint. If the primer lays down well, with no issues, but just this door is having the issue with the color coat, I am really out of possibilities. Unless, for some reason, the primer masks the problem and is compatible with whatever is contaminating the door. Until you lay the color coat on, it is fine. Once the color (of a different manufacturer than the primer?) lays down, then the incompatibility/contamination shows. This is only a guess. I would still take it down to bare plastic and thoroughly clean it before applying either primer or color again.
  2. Good to see you again, Stephen. Work and life have kept me away for a while too. Good to see you again my friend.
  3. Jimmy is cool. Have you decided on a paint scheme for this one yet?
  4. You have stripped the paint all the way back down to clean plastic and it still does it when you spray? Have you, once stripped, wiped the door down with alcohol and let it thoroughly dry? Warm the can and shoot again? And it only does it on this part? Just trying to eliminate some possibilities here. If yes to all of these questions, I would think that something is contaminating the plastic that even alcohol is having a hard time with. It would be a shame for this one part to stop a build dead.
  5. Looks like trapped moisture. How on plastic I am unsure, unless it is slightly porous. One or two of the spots look like 'dirt', but the rest look like water trapped. Are you using a spray can or airbrush?
  6. Jimmy is an Air Force F-15 Eagle crew chief. just went back to Japan for another tour, after completing crash inspection training down in Texas. He does some really nice JDM motors and builds to put them in.
  7. The ONLY issues I really had with the Revell kit was slight body fit (non-issue really) and the wheel/tire fitment. But, that was taken care of in the mock-up/test-fit stage of assembly. Overall, combining the Revell RSX with some of the other kits in their 'Tuner' line (the Civics, DC2 Integra, and the Subaru Impreza STI) can yield a LOT of different options. I personally liked the line (for the most part) and am glad Revell took the gamble with them. Too bad more of their kits didn't have this many build options.
  8. Jeff, would your friend 'Jimmy' happen to be 'Fujimmy' here? If so, he does some amazing work with his JDM powerplants, and he's a pretty cool guy to boot (being an EagleKeeper helps too). I absolutely love your concept, flies in the face of traditional convention and is just what is needed to keep both hobbies (1:1 and scale) fresh.
  9. Funny you should ask, Mark. So here goes: Correct me if I am wrong, but ALL information is stored somewhere, correct? Perhaps I was mistaken on the bandwidth frame of reference, but I am sure that memory is used to store threads (as everything is a bit of information requiring its' own area of storage). So, the more useless crud that needs to be stored, the more memory has to be used. The more memory used, the more we will need. The more we need, the more Gregg has to pay for (and update the server to accomadate). So, by posting useless, memory-eating garbage, it is costing Gregg money. How about YOU ask Gregg how he feels about that. If you really have to search out a Fake Cubano-NewYorican accented 50+ year-old in an Oompa-Loompa suit for entertainment.............you REALLY do need help and should find counseling for that. But, since I come here for the modeling aspect of the hobby, I guess I have no real room for foolishness of this sort. Oh, wait, that's right....there ISN'T a technical section of this sight. Silly me, guess I had better reserve my opinions until we actually get one then huh? Nope, General it is and will have to be. And your last bit of underhanded wittiness.......yeah, got one for you too. Pay attention, as I might lose you here. Since the original thread (started by our good Dr no less) was posted here in General, it would only make sense to bring it up in General. Hope that didn't hurt too much, and I don't care if it did. Oops, guess I had better 'never mind' that as well. Now, for a real answer to your dumb-nut comment: the advent of digital photography and its' clarity rate over film has helped me to detect and correct flaws that I wouldn't have noticed without it. Imagine snapping a pic, loading it to the computer, and being able to see your work on a 21" monitor.......might just help you build better, don't you think. Seeing your flaws THAT BIG sure helped me to concentrate on a cleaner build. But hey, you keep right on cheer-leading for Cranky and all the dumb stuff he posts. Be one of the mindless sheep instead of one who can see through the garbage. Heck, VOTE CRANKY FOR MODERATOR for all I care. YOU don't affect me or my life one bit. You don't sign my paycheck, make my food, or date me, so you really don't matter. Come to think of it, neither does all of this, except to take away from the overall professionalism and public image this site had/has. But drama is traffic, so drama MUST be good, right?
  10. I got two of the Monoco 2drs, one a 75 and the other a 77. The 75 was in real bad shape, while the 77 had better overall integrity. As soon as I mentioned I picked them up to Mark, he wanted the 75 to convert to a Charger Funny Car. being as I knew I would probably never get around to fixing it, I gave it to him. Still have the 77 thought, and a Roscos' patrol car for the hood, chassis, and assorted parts (even thought I think I am going to use a later AMT B-Body for the chassis/drive train).
  11. The story: Sitting on a milk crate consuming Killians' Irish Red one night, it occurred to me that the hood was WAY too plain for this car. Hmmm, I have to make a call. Next morning, the phone at DoubleD Motorsports rings and Dave himself answers. After a brief conversation, he tells me he has just what I need and will get it heading my way. Man, the next week at work can't go by fast enough! Little by little, pieces of the car are coming in and going on for test-fit. Progress is slow, but that is the rub of working life. The model: Thanks to DoubleD, I got a hold of a 1969 Mach1 hood scoop and base plate. This will work wonders for my project. I got it test-fit, and the hole in the hood cut for it. , Now, making the baseplate work and direct air like it would on the 2003-04 Mach1s is my next challenge.
  12. Sorry it has been a while guys, but I have been busy and really haven't done much with the models lately. But, I will share a little progress. The Story: So now that I have the car home and up on jack stands, I am thinking I may have made a mistake. This car needs A LOT! Front end, trunk lid, entire interior, drivetrain, wheels/tires/brakes, hood...............good thing I got it CHEAP. A few phone calls nets me a front clip from a rear-ended 2010GT, and it is even in white, just like the lump in my garage. Stopping to pick it up and BSing with the yard owner, I happen to see a V6 model sitting there, all smashed in on the front end. I ask about the wingless trunk lid and he throws it in for a mere 6-pack of beer! SOLD! I love yard days like these. Work has been a little slow, so daydreaming has been a constant of mine, and much to the companies unknown chagrin, paper and pencil have met a lot on company time....all in the name of MACH1. I managed to get the front end test-fit and adjusted these last few nights, even to the point of making some headway on my grill/chin spoiler treatment. Gotta love cold beverages and easy-living evenings. The model: Not too much for this update, as I have been getting a lot of the body mods/engine bay/inner fender well work done so that you all can see what it takes to get these to sit realistically low. That is forthcoming when I finish it up. I did get the front grill area opened up, and the chin spoiler started. The chin spoiler is just the deck spoiler flipped and filled. I will have it completely filled and shaped by the end of the week, and will show it completed later on in the build. I filled in the trunk spoiler holes and the fake gas cap hole as the truck will have to have new ones drilled and I will not be using the fake cap. , , More to come as time allows. These are in-progress pics, so none of them show the finished bodywork. That will come later. And I see some nice work has been added to the collection since I have been away!
  13. Sean, I just gave Mark Harmon a 1975 Version of this body to convert into a Funny Car body. Man, this build makes me think twice about THAT decision! Luckily, I have a 77 2dr body I could use! Thanks for the inspiration.
  14. I build naked. Does it really matter what someone builds dressed in? Really, do we need to know? Does it enrich any of our lives? Good underhanded post-count builder by the way; get all the 'Ohhh, this is cool' people to reply and then just keep replying to them. Oh well, you have succeeded in creating more worthless bandwidth-eating rubbish. At least the tech-savvy thread, had it gone in a viable direction, could have been an actual contributing positively thread. Instead, it too built up into a billowing pile of steamy (for the most part) garbage. Now, the PROPER question could have been "How do you use the technological advances of the last 10-15 years to enhance/ elevate your build quality?"
  15. Jimmy, the better this looks, the more I start putting off that S13 I finally bought! I was just going to build it curbside, but your SR20DET just looks like it is calling to ALL Fujimi S-series cars! On a side note, you plan on making this one a regular sale engine (like some of your other excellent engines)?
  16. That Vette is a great example of the double-edged sword that is enamel paints; Enamel paint takes forever to dry (bad to hurry-up modeling), but because it takes a while to dry it exhibits more self-leveling properties (Great for a smooth, shiny paint job). Enamels have their place, and I for one prefer enamels on Die-Casts (Hot Wheels) as I can shoot the body, let it sit for a moment to get its' 'tooth', then stuff it in the incubator at 200* and let it bake all night. I have had amazingly shiny and smooth paint-jobs come out of this method. I will have to agree on an airbrush being the way to go as far as any paint (same with heating the can if you must shoot a can-job). Look at what can be accomplished with enamels and one (Donn Yost quickly comes to mind, but there are others and those who came before Donn who got super results with enamels and an airbrush).
  17. That is quite a leap Andy, and I can respect you for that. Apology accepted.
  18. 'I remember reading about that somewhere. It didn't work too well if I remember right'. To which I replied 'It most certainly does, as every modern DOHC engine uses that design' Then you went on one of your diatribes about 'I don't care about modern engines' B.S rants........... But, back to topic, Hybrids most certainly do have a place in racing. Anyway, I am done with your moronic B.S Andy. Want to be a tool and a clown, respected by other blow-hard fools and drug-addled idiots, go for it. To the rest of us who know better, you will remain a fool and a loudmouth windbag who chokes on dads wind.
  19. Would you like me to quote you word for word?
  20. For starters, Andy, you wanted to run your mouth about the Pentroof head design. You read somewhere where it didn't work too well and I gave you REAL WORLD EVERYDAY examples of how well it worked. Then you threw some B.S explanation of your reply instead of admitting you were wrong and moving on. If you would like, we can revisit that discussion, or you can SHUT UP. Personal opinion here, but how about shut up?
  21. I guess that is what separates builders from assemblers (not meant as a shot to you Jon or Harold). When shooting enamels straight from the can, get them quite warm and start with a very light mist coat. Wait a few minutes, and with a warm can, add another mist coat. Roughly 10 minutes, warm can again, lay out a slightly wetter coat for even coverage. Let it dry to the point of being tacky, and take the warm can and lay down one last color coat. Let that dry completely (usually takes about a week), then clear over it with your favorite clear.
  22. Shane, There have been quite a few instances of 'offering guidance' only to be met with opposition and smart-alec answers. We have tried, and tried again to no avail. I am tired of having a kid think he knows what something is like when he obviously couldn't. I started out offering him help, and even parts. But do you think he listens, no. I am old enough to have a kid Andys age. Had my first wife not miscarried, I would have a child as old as Andy. I have a VERY good idea why Andy thinks the way he does, so any further prodding and poking will lead nowhere. At 13, I was still hanging off daddies hairs too. It took a while for me to open my eyes and look beyond dads shadow, BUT I didn't act like a know-it-all have-to-have-the-last-work kid either. Dad taught us manners and respect. He always stated God gave us two ears and one mouth so that we could listen twice as much as we speak, and heaven help us should we act foolish in public (yes, this would be considered public). But, that was when the world was different and parents actually took an active role in guiding their children and punishing them appropriately when they stepped out of line. Now, we have to babysit them because mom and dad think it's ok to plop them in front of a computer as a babysitter, and to keep them out of their hair. I really don't care, Andy. I have had more than my share of carbed cars that are very unwilling to start in cold weather. My first car was carbed, and I will be converting it (yes, I still own it) to EFI when I get around to rebuilding it. Why? Unless the carbed car is tuned to absolute perfection (and most cases not even then), it will be a bear to start and keep running in cold weather for long periods of time. Once is a joke....try starting it every day for 4 months of 0* weather. But I digress, and I am sure you will have some smart comeback. Even my EFI cars sometimes don't like the cold, but that has to do more with the grade of oil used and the less-than-stellar cold-cranking amps of an older battery. I realize that this is falling on deaf ears, and that everything I just said will be for naught. Oh well. My point and views are what they are from being where Andy is now. He will grow up eventually, but until then he needs to learn a little bit of restraint and respect for others who actually have knowledge, not just guesses and what was read in a magazine.
  23. Well, Tom, you can thank NAFTA and import/export law for that. All voted on by your representatives whom line their pockets with middle-class gold. Do you think it would be any better if we did that? Nope, as most companies (asian) have manufacturing plants ON U.S soil. Now, If Europe would lower import taxes, it still wouldn't do much for us. We have networks and connections overseas, but each individual country has their own laws set up to protect their own countries product/work force. Isolationist/protectionist it is, but that is what it is. We as a country can do nothing until we as a country actually DO something instead of just crying about it. Americans are lazy, period. We want it all, cheap, and don't want to work for it. We have let ourselves go from #1 in manufacturing to #1 in service-driven marketing. We rely on everyone else to make our own goods, and until THAT changes, the import/export exchange will stay right where it is. When WE no longer need the rest of the world is when it will become 'fair' again.
  24. If I thought you were capable of rational, adult conversation, Andy, I might take you off block. Unfortunately, by what you have exhibited here, I see that is quite a ways off yet, if ever. Now, we (collectively here) are tired of dealing with someone who is so narrow-minded and closed in that they cannot see even basic fact presented. And from someone who is 13, read it aloud Andy...13 to come in here and pretend and perpetrate that he KNOWS what it is to be older or what it was like in a time that YOU WEREN'T EVEN BORN IN/LIVED THROUGH? C'mon..........open your eyes a little. How do you know anything about Hybrids/hate them if you have never had any dealings with them? How can you begin to think that we can/will take you seriously when all you want to do is bash anything that isn't 'Old School'? Got news for you, Old School isn't all it's cracked up to be. Just wait until you have that old truck of yours NOT want to start on a cold winters day..........you will be wishing for EFI as you freeze your man-bits off. But then again, that just comes from 'some old jerk' who thinks HE knows better. In this case Andy, I DO know better. But, if you can be a big boy, put down the B.S, and have a rational conversation and LISTEN, I might un-block you. Until then, you can say to me what you have to say in the open.
  25. Because I have a CAR that gets me everywhere I need to go, Andy. And if you are the mechanic YOU think YOU are, fix it yourself. Remember, before you became such a little tool, I tried to help you here and even offered parts to you, but you said your 'daddy' wouldn't let you give out your address. Hide all you want Andy, behind any excuse you can. Until you grow up and accept when you are wrong, you will always be just a blow-hard kid. If you think I am a jerk, so be it. Jerks are quite often those who directly tell you the truth and your thin skin is just that, too thin to take it. I don't care if you come over or not, but I offered to civilly work on this. YOU want to hide, not me. Cry me a river, kid. Now go fix your bike, or haven't you 'studied' that yet?
