62 Catalina black interior pics?
Brett Barrow replied to noname's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
FWIW, I think the 62 Cat looks killer in black with the red 3-tone interior. All-black interiors really didn't become popular until the muscle-car era. -
cutting open doors

A Flex-i-file frame works well as a makeshift thread saw. I've used the string sold for rotary valves on brass musical instruments (I was a bass trombonist, french horns have them too, you can find it at a music store that sells and services band instruments). Unwaxed dental floss will work, I've used that too. I would think that Spiderwire would work - I've heard of it being used on rotary valves instead of the string like I had, so it must be just as strong. -
I have CDO, which is kinda like OCD except the letters are in alphabetical order - AS THEY SHOULD BE!!!

What Are Your Strengths?
Brett Barrow replied to Junkman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My chief strength is surprise... surprise and fear... fear and surprise. My two strengths are fear and surprise.... and a ruthless efficiency. My three strengths are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the board's admins... -
Air compressor help
Brett Barrow replied to bandit1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Badger's 50-054 regulator/moisture trap was made in the USA last time I checked... You can get one on Amazon. Search "Badger regulator" Sorry I wasn't in on this thread from the start, I would have recommended you get a CO2 set-up. Probably would have been looking at right around the same $$$ amount as a compressor/moisture trap/regulator, and you'd be supporting a local business (welding gas supplier/beverage distributor) in your area. But you might have had the same problem finding a CO2 regulator that is made in the US as well. I have an ancient Norgren that was, but I think they're made in China now as well. -
Yeah I could have done that, but I didn't know how racing tires are sized (Now, after a little googling I see they're basically just sized by the tread width, OD, and wheel size). I was just taking a shot someone would know and post an answer before I left work. I'll bring the calipers tomorrow and figure it out.

Are they the ones they're using in the Chi Town/Hawaiian ? Mine didn't have the "Remove Me" webbing in the hole, so I assumed they were a different tire. I know they were in the Mongoose re-issue, as well as the last Jungle Jim re-issue. It doesn't really matter what kit they originated from, I need to know the real-world sizes they represent. My company is goign to be re-packaging them and re-selling them and I need to know the 1:1 sizes (if anyone even knows).

Need to know what size these tires represent in the 1:1 world. They're the tires from 90's Revell Pro Stock kits (and some of the later re-issued 70's Funny Cars as well) Thanks, Brett edit - they are not the tires from the 90's Pro Stocks. That's what I was told they're from. They are indeed the newer 70's Funny Car tires.

Taking pictures of your models
Brett Barrow replied to Jairus's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
One thing I'd add is, if your camera has it, that you set a custom white-balance. Usually you enter the mode and take an exposure of a white surface - in this case it would be your backdrop - and just leave it set there. With auto white balance it's constantly shifting based on the average of the colors in the picture, so your background is always a little different shade in each photo. Or find a WB setting that gives you a nice white background and leave it set there. Your lighting setup isn't changing, so you shouldn't need a different WB for each exposure. Auto WB makes your backdrop a different color in each pic. -
2" Constant measurement between stripes 9 1/4" At bottom of front lower valance 9 1/4" Leading edge of the hood 10 1/2" Bottom of the windshield 10 1/2" Top of the windshield 10 3/8" Top of rear window 10 1/8" Bottom of rear window 10" Leading edge of trunk lid 10" Bottom edge of rear valance These are the specs for the 1:1 stripe, of course. They have a very subtle taper. 10" scales out to 1/4"0.4" in 24/25th scale, I'd just go with that unless you have calipers or a mic... 2" is 0.080", so I'd use a piece of 0.080" styrene strip as a guide (either when placing your masking, or cutting a thin piece of masking - depending on if you're painting the stripes or the body color first)

Master Modeler?????

Agree 100%! Just Ebay hyperbole/self-promotion. -
For wooden steering wheels I use - Tamiya Desert Yellow w/ a dark brown drybrushing (optional) followed by a coat of Tamiya Clear Orange.

Accurate Miniatures Corvettes
Brett Barrow replied to 58 Impala's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They might not be out of business, but they're definitely not in business right now. They ceased operations a few months back. It's possible they'll come back. -

4 it is, I never knew the first Mecom kit had the louvered hood. -
Accurate Miniatures Corvettes
Brett Barrow replied to 58 Impala's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can think of 3 - but there were really only 2 unique kits - one with the crazy PE louvered hood and the one without. #1 - Mecom (all blue) w/o PE hood louvers #2 - All white version w/ PE hood louvers #3 - white and blue version w/ PE hood louvers -
I took these pics a while ago and just realized I never posted them. They show the hogged-out wheel opening on the inside of the CTH/Hawaiian Funny Car body. I thought it was done for tire clearance, but others have speculated it's the period-correct opening for the CTH, or the correct openings for the Hawaiian. You be the judge, I'll let the pics speak for themselves.

My new favorite commercial
Brett Barrow replied to Peter Lombardo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The hamsters were used in the first Soul commercial. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEcjtqYztdg And the rapping hamster commercial isn't "new", it was on every 2 seconds back in the spring, then it went away (thank goodness) and now it's back on every 2 seconds again. Maybe it was a regional/test ad, and now it's national, or maybe the 2011 models are out? -
AMT '62 Chevy Impala 2'n1
Brett Barrow replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Bill Coulter and Len Carsner covered this kit pretty well, I thought. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=30238&st=0 http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=30551&hl=62%20impala&st=0 -
Whether this turns out to be more promotion than actual model car contest remains to be seen. This release just went out Friday, no more information has been posted on Revell.com or gearztv.com as of today (Sunday night). Was there any mention of this at iHobby Expo? I know Stacey David was listed as one of the "celebrity" guests appearing at the show.

Major model car manufactures
Brett Barrow replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's not RC2 anymore. It was RC2 that ran AMT into the ground. RC2 was formed from the merger of Racing Champions and Learning Curve. The new company, headed by Tom Lowe, is "Round 2" Other than having an R and the number 2 in its name, it has nothing to do with RC2. -
