  1. I make my own, too, and if it weren't for the handfuls of sample sticks I took home over the past couple years, I wouldn't use the store-bought ones either, honestly! I shoot a piece of sandpaper with spray glue and stick them to balsa wood. The store-bought sticks do last longer, though, especially if you use them wet.
  2. No, we don't supply them, but they may use the same supplier we use. We use several sources for our sanding stick line, and I've found that our "angle-cut" sticks hold up better than other sticks that look exactly alike and seem to be made from the same material. We started making our "angle-cut" sanding sticks because Creations Unlimited had gone out of business and wasn't producing the Flex-I-Files anymore and we had tons of demand for them. We had Alpha Abrasives out of Canada start making a similar stick for us. Now Alpha Abrasives has bought the rights to Creations Unlimited and is producing them again under the Flex-I-File name, so they should now be equal quality to the ones we sell(and we'll continue to sell both ours and the Flex-i-files). I don't know who makes the ones Micro-Mark sells and I've never tried them. The Squadron sticks the TS mentioned look like the same material, too, but they would always come apart easier than our sticks or the original Flex-i-files, and I found our sticks keep their grit longer than the original Flex-i-files. Our older line of sticks (the grey ones that look like wet-or-dry sandpaper) are made by a different supplier and they aren't as durable as the "angle-cut" ones.
  3. Hi Joe, You could order the sticks directly from us at info@stevenshobby.com, but I'd recommend ordering from someplace like Sprue Brothers http://www.spruebrothers.com/ Roll Models http://www.rollmodels.com/ or Great Models http://www.greatmodels.com/ since that's the type of business they're set up to do every day and they do it very well. Look for "Hobby Stix" brand. Brett Barrow Stevens International
  4. They're bringing back the old Pro Modeler name I see (albeit on 2 new-tool Revell Germany airplane kits), and they've been using the Monogram name on lots of stuff since last year. I've been telling them for 10 years now that the Monogram name has a more positive reaction than the Revell name.
  5. It's Academy that's supposed to do this. Academy and Minicraft haven't been affiliated in about 20 years. Thanks for posting, those are some cool pics. I hope to have a little info on this kit later this week when our contingent from iHobby gets back to work. (I like to let them settle in for a couple days before I start in with the questions)
  6. I'd recommend buying an extra bottle or two. They've been known to go about a year or so between shipments of the Liquid Cement. We did get their balsa airplane tube cement back in a while back, that stuff had been gone for about 5 years!!!
  7. easy to get - Not right now it's not!!! We haven't seen Ambroid come though in several months. Tenax has been back for about 3-4 months, been getting plenty of it.
  8. My point exactly. We don't know. Don't make more of it than what is there. Doesn't happen nearly enough.
  9. Yet again, there's no shades of gray on the internet. "Only a very few of the most talented builders on this forum can keep things moving until the end." becomes "Anyone who doesn't finish their WIP is a talentless hack" Why don't people just read what's written in a post, instead of thinking of everything that can possibly be read into it??
  10. I personally prefer the ones where it's just a couple of pics of wheels under an unpainted body shell and then you never see another update... I try to get a week or two into a project before I post anything on it, but I thought posting a first post as soon as I start something would help keep me motivated... that hasn't helped my '57 Chevy gasser...
  11. [sarcasm]Sorry always thought the general board was for things of general interest pertaining to car modeling, but I guess not. This place gets closer and closer to Facebook every day. Can't wait for the political and religious posts to start up. I always liked this place because it stayed on-topic.[/sarcasm]
  12. I thought they were just hogged out for tire clearance!!! I'll take some more pics tonight or tomorrow, my body's in primer.
  13. The Hawaiian should have moulded-in rear spoilers, too. I wouldn't surprise me if they do a new top insert to the body tooling. It wouldn't surprise me if they don't, either.
  14. Jeremiah was a Bullfrog. Was a good friend of mine. And even he has no idea what the relevance of this is to model cars.
  15. Craft Braid = Old School DIY Goodness!!! Love it, keep it up!!!
  16. Yeah, I've been looking for a new Olfa knife since I discovered they don't make my blades anymore (I ordered blades thinking they fit my handle, but they're too big, so I decided to just buy the handle they do fit in), found one that retails for about $12 for $4.95 + $1.95 so I scooped it up. I tend to stick to Buy it Now's, instead of auctions. I really like eBay now that they make you list shipping up front.
  17. Yeah, you mean this? - That's the big track Kurtis race car, and it's an old kit. The midgets are brand-spanking new. HTU = HobbyTown USA
  18. Kit was reissued earlier this year w/ Cartograf decals. Kit #14022.
  19. Yup, it's white.
  20. Somebody posted a question about the changes in Gasser classes pre-1970, now it appears they've deleted the post. Here's the link I was trying to post in response to their question - http://gassermadness.com/Gas_Classes/index.htm
  21. The 59 Caddy has the same BF Goodrich Silvertowns w/ whitewall inserts it's always had. Just popped one open to check. I think 10 years from now, we'll be looking back at Hobbico's purchase of Revell and Round 2's taking control of AMT and MPC as what saved car modeling as we know it.
  22. Here's my favorite HAMB thread - the full frame-off restoration of the Teixeira Willys. - http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=270811 Another fave is Kiwi Kev's Nasty Habit Willys - here's part one, just search "nasty habit willys" to find the other parts, it's still a work-in-progress http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=236716&highlight=nasty+habit+willys My favorite car on the HAMB is a 55 Chevy known as "Shakey Puddin'" here's a useful thread on converting to a straight front axle, which is IMO the definitive modification to make to a gasser or AWB* - http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=225171&highlight=shakey+puddin The member ShakeyPuddin55 has tons of great posts, dig thru his profile and there's lots of good info. Here's a good picture thread of AWB's http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=393460&highlight=awb+tempest *They don't have to have straight axles, some didn't. If I build a model of one, it will, though!
  23. For Gassers, there's no better place I know of than the H.A.M.B. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/ Sign up there and search the boards, you'll find all you ever wanted to know about gassers! I have some really good threads bookmarked on my home computer, I'll post when I get home tonight. What kind of Gasser are you building? Tri-Five Chevy? Willys? Something less typical? I'm building a '57 Chevy 210 Gasser right now, but I haven't taken any chassis shots yet. It's just getting started anyway. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=35527&st=0&p=363168&#entry363168
  24. I don't see the connection between Jon's link and an anti IPMS-diatribe... ...but I think this one is funnier anyway Bud Light • Real Men of Genius Mr. Miniature Train Modeler
