Thanks, everyone. This is primarily to keep your account from getting hacked. But, the vendor is dropping support for using screen names in the next big release so we also want to get ahead of that.

Retired but looking for something to do
Dave Ambrose replied to mrobi57's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself
Welcome to the forum, Mike! Your story has been repeated here a thousand times. I think you'll find that you're in good company. Have fun building! -
Ah, I didn't see that error, but yes, that keyword is probably in the rules as well. I'll upda uhhhh change the text in my replies to include it.

We have some software rules in place to prevent people from attacking our database, also known as a SQL injection attack. It turns out they're somewhat too promiscuous. The problem words are (ignore the embedded spaces): insert select alter update I'll get to work solving this problem. In the meantime, if you want to use one of these programmatically naughty words, insert a space in them so they don't trip the errant rule(s).

Not secure Privacy notice from Chrome.
Dave Ambrose replied to ranma's topic in How To Use This Board
It probably cached an outdated security certificate from the site. Glad you were able to overcome that. -

We're going to be making a small change to the way people log in. Currently, you can log in using your forum name. Unfortunately, this leaves you open to having your account hacked which, has happened to a couple of people in the last few months. We will be changing the login to accept only the email address you have registered with the forum. This isn't publicly accessible and should serve to stop the account hacking. The forum is currently accepting email addresses for login. You can make this change now, and the forum will work fine for you. We will stop accepting forum names on 28 February 2025. To prepare, please follow the following steps: Check the email address in your profile. In the top right corner of the page, click on you account name Click on Account Settings in the menu Check your email address. If you need to change it, click Change to the right of your email address If you're using Google, or other password manager, update the entry for the web site from your screen name to your email address You can also choose to update the entry when you log in the next time If you have any difficulty, please send me a PM, or post a comment here.

This is very much Gregg's forum. He formulated the rules and policies we use to run it. @Harry P., aka Harry Pristovnik, ran this forum for a long time, and I just kept the server fed and watered. When Harry's illness became debilitating, I stepped in to run the social side along with the technical end. Gregg and I are closely aligned on the rules for this forum, but in the end, last word is Gregg's, not mine.

Not me, but my son received some resin parts, and a very elaborate decal sheet for one of the Goodsmile racing Mercedes. He normally builds Gundams, but is going to build his first car kit since he was quite young. I'm looking forward to this build.

Those of you having this problem -- I cannot reproduce it. Would you please post the date, as exact a time as you can (let us know if it's approximate), and your time zone (plus any daylight saving time status)? I will see if I can find something incriminating in the server logs.

‘59 Bugeye Sprite

This is great! Bug-eyes have a special place in my household. There's a Midget in the garage. Those inner door sections are steel stampings, and the outer skins are folded around them. 2 or 3 mil plastic should suffice for your build. -
I talk to them regularly. They speak perfectly fine English. Like I said, our regular carrier is great. When a Surfer's Journal gets delivered, it's on the doorstep with the rest of our mail rubber banded to it.

Home electrical question........
Dave Ambrose replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
It depends on how the GFCI socket is wired. If you've wired the downstream sockets through the GFCI socket, then they will be protected. If you haven't wired them through the GFCI socket, then they won't be protected. Easy way to tell is to get a socket test light. They usually have a GFCI test button. You can plug it in to a downstream socket, press that button, and the GFCI should trip. -
One thing to keep in mind -- none of these AI systems is doing symbolic reasoning. They can identify patterns and generate things matching patterns, basically running the recognizer backwards. But they can't extend beyond what they've seen in any groundbreaking way. I suspect DeepThink was behind the forum server loading problems some months back. We cut them off so don't ask it any car modeling questions. 🙂 AI can do some very useful things, but you need to understand its limitations too.

Aside from being somewhat out of focus, what's wrong with this picture? That envelope plainly says "Do Not Bend". Normally, our post man is great about this. Magazine along with the rest of our mail is on the doorstep. I'm assuming that someone else was doing his route yesterday. Fortunately the mag isn't heavily damaged.

That was me. I did that this afternoon because I didn't think anyone was posting videos. Please keep in mind that videos take up approximately 1000 times more space than a picture. If you can use a picture, that's definitely preferred. At the moment, it doesn't seem to be a problem, but if we start getting tight on storage, I may have to limit video posting. I've turned the video posting permission on again. We're keeping our eye on our storage situation anyway, and if we need to, we may turn it off again.

I've tweaked the settings a bit. As an anti-spam measure, we have flood control enabled. If you try to post within 45 seconds of your previous post, you're going to get blocked. Thinking about it a bit more, I wonder if this isn't what you're running into. Say something here if this keeps happening.

I just updated the forum software, so things will likely behave a bit differently. But, I can only see a limited recount of your activity on my iPhone. Refuses to show anything before Saturday. It does show the reaction icons.

Pat, it looks like you have cookies for this site blocked. Please check that you're not running in incognito mode on your browser. If you aren't, send me a PM and we'll do some deeper diagnostics.

More computer stuff (show me your shocked face)

There is a free program called IrfanView. It does a lot of image adjustments, and manipulations including resizing and converting file types. You can also use it to insert text. Been using it for ages, and it's my go to first for almost everything. It does not do well with highly sophisticated image processing for either underwater or astronomy. -
What Did You Get Today? (Not Model Related)
Dave Ambrose replied to LOBBS's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Two free wind wings for my son's '70 MG Midget from the fellow who bought our '62 Sprite. I swear that British car enthusiasts are the best car culture crowd around.
