Colors, fonts, and sizes are determined by the forum's theme. Right now, we're using the default theme that comes with the forum software. It's not ideal, but it's what we had to do at the time. We're getting a new and major upgrade some time this year. I'll take a look at what's available, and make some decisions about themes then. Thanks for bringing this up. I know what to look for, and maybe we can figure out some solutions before the new software goes live.

Has the site been slow/unresponsive for anyone else? 3/9/25
Dave Ambrose replied to DJMar's topic in How To Use This Board
Looks like we're getting more AI engines scraping our site. They don't play well, and can bog down the server causing slow response for the humans using the forums. -
Final Voyage Of The SS United States.
Dave Ambrose replied to John M.'s topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
She would make a spectacular artificial reef. The aircraft carrier, Oriskany, is now an artificial reef. Don't know how popular she is, but I'd like to dive her. As for environmental impact, they are good, so long as they get properly prepared. The extra iron in the water encourages plankton, which is the base of the marine food chain. Things just work up from there. Prep will be complicated as doorways will need to be welded shut to keep divers out. Wreck penetration requires special equipment and training. It is not a casual diving activity. But, stupid people sometimes try it anyway and earn their Darwin Awards. -
Suggestion for the board
Dave Ambrose replied to 10543Modeler's topic in Model Cars Magazine News and Discussions
Interesting idea. We do have our dealer list on the main website. Another very useful list would be the model car clubs. The challenge with these lists is maintaining them. We don't have the personnel available right now. but it's definitely in our future plans. -
You might run into a problem when you have to login again. Just use your email address instead of your screen name, and you should be fine.

I just disabled display names as your login name. It's not quite 11 on the Left Coast of the US, and official company time is Hawai'i standard time. 🙂

MPC 1/16 ‘63 Stingray Drag Coupe
Dave Ambrose replied to Hmann68's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
If the decals are old, you can coat them with Microscale decal film. That does a great job of keeping old decals together, and doesn't make them noticeably thicker. -
Dan Gurney's '61 Impala 1:25
Dave Ambrose replied to Belugawrx's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
I saw that video too. I too am a big Dan Gurney fan. He and Albert Einstein were my childhood heroes. I don't have any '61 Impalas in my stash. I will be keeping an eye out for one now. -

Spring is here. My allergies have gone off and the snake is demanding a mouse.

Send me a PM with the particulars.

I see that too and I don't know why that happened. I think it will automagically [sic] fix itself in a couple of days. Let me know if it doesn't.

I may have bought a telescope today. It will be for my daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. Need to replace the finder scope and go through the optics to make sure they're in good order before I give it to them.

The only change is to your login credentials. Your forum name will continue to be used as it has been. Bad actors have used the screen name, and a weak password to hack accounts, leaving us to clean up the resulting mess. It isn't desirable, but this is the world we live in, and realism is far more functional than denial. We have had incidents where forum members were being pursued and harassed via their locations here. Their situation was serious enough to warrant removing them for the entire board. If you want to advertise your location, you're free to do so in your signature block.

Thanks, everyone. This is primarily to keep your account from getting hacked. But, the vendor is dropping support for using screen names in the next big release so we also want to get ahead of that.

Retired but looking for something to do
Dave Ambrose replied to mrobi57's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself
Welcome to the forum, Mike! Your story has been repeated here a thousand times. I think you'll find that you're in good company. Have fun building! -
Ah, I didn't see that error, but yes, that keyword is probably in the rules as well. I'll upda uhhhh change the text in my replies to include it.

We have some software rules in place to prevent people from attacking our database, also known as a SQL injection attack. It turns out they're somewhat too promiscuous. The problem words are (ignore the embedded spaces): insert select alter update I'll get to work solving this problem. In the meantime, if you want to use one of these programmatically naughty words, insert a space in them so they don't trip the errant rule(s).

Not secure Privacy notice from Chrome.
Dave Ambrose replied to ranma's topic in How To Use This Board
It probably cached an outdated security certificate from the site. Glad you were able to overcome that. -
