tubbing a chassis for bigger dragster tires ?
LoneWolf15 replied to ERIK88's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
For as much as you build , it surprises me that you don't have parts kits laying around . I bought several cases of the ' 66 Nova's just for the parts . I still buy them , along with the Super Bee pro street kits at every show that I can ...... Pm Rob and see what he has up his sleeve ! Lol ! -

I believe the lesson to be learned would be to follow the direction of one who has learned how to back half using a fool proof method rather than playing the game with Lady Trial & Error ! The method that Virgil uses is simple , easy , and produces stellar results , each and every time ! -

Paint prep on high gloss molded plastic

Eddie Fluck and several of the other top resin casters counsel a 24 hr soak in Bleche White . I've followed their advice and never had any problems . -
If you shoot the body with Testors white enamel and polish it out , you will not need a clear coat !

Flat Black Enamel as primer?
LoneWolf15 replied to danman6677's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Well , you just did , but that's beside the point ! Lol ! I left out the one magical word .... Continuous ! Multiple continuous mist coats until you build up an overall gloss , smooth finish , with a good depth and richness of color . Should there be any orange peal , wet sand it out ! Yes , I know that you don't agree , but , nonetheless , that is exactly what you do ! You wet-sand the entire panel , not the particular problem spot ! Any other advice , contrary to this , is dead wrong ! There are over 100 examples on my website to back up what I'm saying . As for the Testors flats coming out of a spray can , they too , dry within a short period of time . I realize that you are not the only one who holds to this theory , they are legion . Clearing over debris in the paint and then wet sanding it just doesn't cut it . You can still see the dirt in the finish , it needs to be removed beforehand . -
Flat Black Enamel as primer?
LoneWolf15 replied to danman6677's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Flat black or semigloss Testors enamel is dry within 10 to 15 minutes after application when cut with cheap laquer thinner . And , yes , it can be wet sanded right after that . Draw back to using the flat ..... It might flatten out the gloss of the silver , turning to more of a semi gloss sheen . To get the silver to really pop , I'd use gloss black as a base and mist coat the silver over top if it once the black base coat has flashed out . Donn Yost -
What happened to my paint?
LoneWolf15 replied to charlie8575's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Charlie , Just my thoughts .... Do not use the Novus if you intend to clear coat the paint . If you need to remove the Novus , wash it off with Top Job or Bleche white and rinse thoroughly . By allowing the body to sit in the water , it absorbed it and probably hadn't fully flashed out . As for the paint ..... The fact that you didn't achieve a gloss could have been twofold . # 1 - a bit too much thinner in the mix will knock down MM 's gloss . Due to the rough texture , I believe #2 might be the culprit . You were spraying from too far a distance and the paint was drying as it hit the surface , leaving an orange pealed surface . If the laquer thinner was at fault here , you'd know it as it would have etched the body . -
Anne , Let it sit for a couple of days just to be safe . As for masking , I'd use bare metal foil instead of masking tape . Easier to conform to the dash's curves and less adhesive which lessens the chance of the paint pulling away . Just burnish it down tight and trim it off . I'd use the improved Bare Metal foil , not the ultra bright !
-
Anne , Comes in a wide array of colors , my opinion , it needs to be sifted through a screen to break it down into a more realistic size . When sifted, it becomes like fine dust and looks much more realistic in appearance as compared to it's original state .
-
J , Try using a piece of bare metal foil for your mask . I think you'll find it quite a bit easier to maneuver and easier to trim between the lens and the body of the taillight .

Ya think ? Lmao !

The only issue that you might run into is when it starts to crystallize in the jar . After sitting on the shelf for a long period of time , it develops a sand quality to it . Add thinner to it , shake well , strain it through a piece of ladies nylon stocking into another jar , and the crystals are trapped by the nylon . Paint is now good to go !

To Tom and the crew .... As always , high kudos for a job well done ! Kidd , right back at ya ! Lol ! If Virgil had made the trip , we could have had the best of both worlds , shine and rust ! Met more than a few of the Forum members and had a great time talking to all of you ! Thank you all for your business and hope to see you again next year ! Donn Yost

bringing back the shine?
LoneWolf15 replied to mnwildpunk's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Novus 2 will remove all the garbage and polish out the plastic at the same time . Just add a coat of polish to it afterward the preserve the shine and protect the finish . -
What grit of sandpaper for sanding primer coat?
LoneWolf15 replied to clovis's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Clovis , Check out Micromark.com , they have rubber backed sand paper starting at 2400 and it goes up to 12000 . Sand the body all the way up to 12000 under cold running water . The smoother the surface to be painted , the smoother the paint job ! -
It is a great feeling when the significant other pitches in and helps ! It took a long time to get used to the fact that Kathie could and would lend a hand with whatever I was working on . In years past , I did it all by myself ! By the way , the truck is in base coat , the bottom is in pearl , and I will probably have all of it pearled on Thursday morning . Leaving for the NNL East on Friday morning , so it'll have a few days to flash out . Dunno if I'll make the deadline , don't say anything , but I think she forgot about the contest deadline ......... Lol !

They were mentioned in a " I wish/ want thread awhile back . I would love to see these reissued , all of them !
