The Pharaoh's Patina
LoneWolf15 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Sigh ! I knew it was too good to be true ! Lol ! You're like a pinball these days , bouncing off all the bumpers ! Great start , keep it rollin' ! -
Candy Painting Question
LoneWolf15 replied to djdemon's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The silver needs to flash out first ! If you want a quick drying silver base , use Testors aluminum metallizer . It drys in about 30 seconds . A candy color needs numerous mist coats to gradually build up and give you the coverage and color you are looking for . Patience is the key here ! -
So why do you or we stash kits?
LoneWolf15 replied to greymack's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Parts , parts , and more parts ! Lol ! I do not collect , I build . Therefore , I always have to have plenty of parts to choose from and kit bashing is always the preferred choice . As of late , I started consolidating similar kits to make room . It does get ridiculous at times , I have to admit ! -
WEATHERING CIVILIAN VEHICLES BOOK
LoneWolf15 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Clovis , He's probably buried up to his neck in projects , so , if you don't mind , I'll answer for him ! Buy Virgil's book ! Plain and simple , if you follow his methods on whatever you're weathering , be it train , car , truck , building , etc , it will turn out fantastic ! The man knows what he's talking about and it translates well from the pages to the hands ! Donn Yost -
Correct me if I'm wrong . Revell molds in " The old codger scale " , I'm guessing you mean 1/25th scale here ? Right ? The aftermarket parts companies design their parts for 1/24th scale and this is Revell's fault how ? Seems to me if I produced aftermarket parts to use with existing kits , common sense would tell me to design the parts in the scale of said kits . I certainly wouldn't expect the manufacturer to change their scale to suit my whims . To be honest , I really didn't know this problem existed . Or , are these aftermarket parts being produced predominately for the foreign manufactured kits , which , if I recall , are almost all 1/24th scale . This would make more sense to me , now that I think about it . In answer to a previous post .... There are far more old codgers coming back into the hobby than the youngsters . Revell is placing their bet on where the money is ..... Thus the reason for the kits being offered . It's Old School money that is driving the industry and has been for quite some time now . I don't see this changing anytime soon , if ever . There simply aren't enough younger modelers to justify producing kits of latter day cars . Revell's bet placement seems to be working out quite well , we are seeing a consistent flow of new kits . I have stated this numerous times ! This is truly a golden age for car modelers , we've seen more new releases just in this decade then I can remember with others combined . I plan on enjoying it to the fullest !

Making things looking worn.
LoneWolf15 replied to mnwildpunk's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Doctor Cranky's book is a good place to start ! This will give you all the how to information , plus what supplies you'll need . You'll need an earth toned pastel chalk set and a couple of stiff artist brushes also ! -
tested out my new airbrush
LoneWolf15 replied to CrazyGirl's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Lmao ! Real stuff ? Ahhhh , maybe you're referring to the Ladies Perfume ? Stay away from this guy , Anne ! He is bad news along with bad habits ! Lol! Oh , G? It always dries with the laquer thinner , Always ! Lmao ! -
Local hobby shops carry it on their Testors rack as do the Michaels chain stores . The official site is not always what it should be !

Anne , The Testors Competition Orange in the 1/4 oz bottles matches up nice for what you're looking for .

how to remove left over bmf glue from paint
LoneWolf15 replied to Scalper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Novus 2 will take it right off without harming your paint . -
Mazmanian , Stone Woods & Cook , KS Pittman , and Fred Hurst , just to name a few , competed against each other at the car shows just as much as they did on the strip . Larry Davis covered this topic in his book , Gasser Wars . Most of the cars pictured were stone cold beautiful . As a kid , I loafed at the local drag strips and the finishes on the cars were well taken care of , far more often than not . The local gearheads considered it a badge of honor to keep their rides clean and shining , as I still do to this day .

Riiiight ! Oh well , knew it was too good to be true ! Lol ! Back to the drawing board ! Bwahahahaha !

Lmao ! Rob , I've been called many things , but henpecked ain't one of 'em , my boy ! While I can't relate to the spouses reactions to the hobby aspect , I can sympathize otherwise ! Softball caused more wars in my household then I could begin to count ! Once again , very lucky ! Kathie loves softball , she coaches , keeps score , and travels with me to the tournaments . As I said , she's a guys kinda girl , no la la about her ! Lol ! Oh , she owns half the business , builds herself , and loves the model car world ! Life is just soooo tough for me ......... Lmao !
-
Uh uh ! No sisters ! As for shedding light , nope , she's wired completely different than most females and doesn't relate well with the status quo ! Thank God ! Lol ! Her honey do list ? I need to install the new a/c condensing unit at her house . My honey do list ? A mile long and ever growing at my house ! No , we're not married ! I'm allergic to it ! Been there , done that , not on my bucket list ! Lol !

Compressor Question , sorry for a repeated Q
LoneWolf15 replied to CrazyGirl's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thank you ! Glad it helped out . I would just buy 2 medium sized moisture traps and put them inline , this way you're covered ! Some would consider this overkill , but ....... -
Compressor Question , sorry for a repeated Q
LoneWolf15 replied to CrazyGirl's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Back at you with a question....... Does it have a tank ? Better off with one ! Secondly , the hobby compressors build up moisture fast when run for any length of time. . Couple that with the small standard moisture trap that they use , the compressor can fill up the jar real quick with water . If you aren't paying attention , the jar will overflow into your hose and your airbrush will end up spitting water all over your pristine paint job ! Another way around this would be to buy larger moisture traps from Graingers , Sears , etc , and install them inline . I have three on my setup , always better to be safe than sorry ! -

Constructive feedback is a good thing , it also leads to bigger and better things ! There are some youngsters on here that have come light years from where they started out several years ago !

From one old goat to another ... Happy Birthday , buddy ! Lol !

Even my kids call me Old Man , the youngest since she was a little girl . Once upon a time , this was considered a slight or better yet , a sign of disrespect . I love it , I earned it ! Someone calls me "Mr Yost " , I tell them the guy that earned that moniker lives in Scott Twp , the one I call Dad ! Lol !
