  1. Well , you promised me that it was going to be something special , you certainly didn't disappoint in that department ! Love every bit of it ! You have done yourself proud on this one ! The Old Man
  2. Always hard to lose one , it will hurt , here and there through the years . Ernie , however, will soften the blow and provide you with many years of love and laughter with his antics .
  3. You need to soak it again for 24 hours in Bleche white .......
  4. If you're getting a rough texture , you're shooting too far away from the body . Move in closer with your airbrush , increase your pressure and thin the paint a bit more . The paint is drying out before it hits the body .
  5. Are you still counting them there things ? Happy birthday , buddy ! May there be many more !
  6. Stressed ? A bit ! Never over whelmed ! Lol ! Generally speaking , it is usually just being so tired . Full time job , running the business , and just life in general can take it's toll . Kathie and I both commented on the fact that the day seemed to fly by .
  7. Lmao ! Dan , my sincere apologies for coming across as only cordial in previous meetings . This was the first year where I actually had more than 3 hours of sleep under my belt before the show .... I actually had energy to spare on Saturday ! Hats off to Tom and the crew for putting on a show that runs like the proverbial Swiss watch , year in and year out . Great to see old friends and meet new ones . Dinner with Mr's Swartz , Dudek , Cohen and associates , then got to hang out with T Kren , Papa Fo , Chopper , Bill Stillwagon , Mr & Mrs Sandone , and Mr Geiger afterwards ! Thank you to all who visited the tables , your business is greatly appreciated !
  8. That car looks positively evil from the front view ! I really like the overall concept . Very sleek and elegant .
  9. Just a heads up ..... You'll need to trim about an 1/8 th of an inch off of each side of the front of the frame . Otherwise , it will flare out the bottom of the front fender , causing the bumper / grill not to fit properly !
  10. D, Your pin vise will handle this without a problem . As mentioned , it is a soft metal and drills quite easily .
  11. Hmmmm , seems to me , ya'll have some catching up to do ! Lmao ! And , yes , you will love every minute of it !
  12. And ...... You'll be a damned good one ! Congratulations ! Ain't it cool ? Lmao ! I love every minute of it !
  13. I rebuilt a 350 Rocket for my '72 Cutlass , going 30 over with oversized iron pistons . I played a bit more with the exhaust / mufflers by going with a larger diameter system , boosted the electronics , etc . Nothing major there . Problem being , no consideration towards the braking system with the added horsepower and speed ! There were a few times at the onset where I actually believed that I would have to Flintstone it ! Lol !
  14. Handling was not my issue .... Trying to get the damned thing stopped? Now that was a whooooole different story ! Lmao !
  15. Bandit , Head for the local art supply store and explain your needs . Might cost you a bit , but you'll be using quality brushes which will produce a stellar outcome !
  16. Ha ! Don't even attempt to sell yourself short in that department , ya geriatric old goat ! You produce some very fine work on a regular basis ! You just need to expand your playground boundaries and get outta New England every once in a while ..... Speaking of which , NNL East this year ?
  17. Nope ! Because I was the individual that got booed ....... Lmao ! Not that I " Always win ! " I didn't ! But that was their perception . So , to avoid the drama , I only enter that particular show every couple of years .
  18. Rob , The reason that I started using the mirrors ? The subject matter at hand ! If an individual claimed X amount of detail on the chassis , the judges wanted to see this , hence , picking up the model came into vogue ! The mirrored base was my way of combating it . Thankfully , as I mentioned before , the handling of the models is now passé in the shows that we attend , which are quite a few . Unfortunately , come August , My builds will once again face the club handed foolishness of the National's judges . The fact that the one inch square " Do not touch box " is checked , never seems to penetrate that particular mentality .... I can relate to the " Trophy hound / hoer aspect , as I've seen many go by the wayside due to the implications involved . It's just not worth the hassle for them . How about this one .... An individual being booed when their name was announced as having placed first in several classes at a show ! When confronted as to why they acted in such a manner after the fact , they stated , " Because you always win ! " Unreal !
  19. Mark , The mentality that eludes you ? The " display table only " is a form of punishment . You don't want your models handled ? Fine ! Put them on that table over there ..... Simple as that ! The fact that several of those models relegated to said table may very well be the best at the show ? It doesn't matter , because you refused to allow the judges to touch your work ! Strange as it may sound , I always viewed this insistence of touching the models as a sense of entitlement . It's our show , feel privileged to be here , that we allowed you to enter our show . Oh by the way ? We will be touching your models , whether you like it or not , regardless of the fact that the do not touch block has been checked ! Why you ask ? Because it's our show ! The truth of the matter ? It should be the exact opposite ! A club should be grateful and gracious to the attendees , more than a few drove many miles just to attend the show . Without the attendees , you don't have a show , period ! Strikes me odd that the Detroit club now wants to remove the bases for the next show , in doing so , it throws my solution right out the window . No mirrored base ? Looks like we have to pick that model up for sure now ! As for the '39 .... Seems that it was put in the wrong class , sounds like a box stock build to me . Regardless of the lack of detail , any model in any class would be eligible for a Best Paint award . Seemed odd to me that an individual that laid down such a " lovely " paint job would allow a scratch in the fender to go unnoticed , or addressed . Paint me paranoid , but I have to wonder how it got there in the first place ! I often wonder if the aforementioned club and another in New York ever took into consideration just how many well known modelers stay away from their shows because of their insistence of "hands on judging " . I do believe that they would be shocked at the numbers , let alone the absence of the works of art on their show tables that those modelers produce .
  20. Wow ! Beautiful work ! On both pieces !
  21. Why not try the NNL style for next year just to see how it works out ? You'll still be putting on a model show , still have vendors , and probably have less headaches for you and the crew to go along with it ! Your show plan is always well thought out and presented as such , you have those aspects down to a science . Pick a couple of theme builds for the show , and just see how it turns out . I really can't see anything bad coming out of it . Who knows ? Maybe you can alternate between the two styles of show every other year . Now , if you could just pick a date where I don't have to work ........ Lmao !
  22. Careful assembly has nothing to do with it . A fellow " modeler " decided to do some repair work on his model on the show table . In doing so , super glue dripped off the applicator and landed on several models , mine included . When informed of this , I found that the rear window on my Impala had four glue marks on it . I purchased an Impala kit from a vendor , removed the body from my build , popped out the rear glass , and replaced it with the new part . I then placed the body back on the build , reglued the front and rear bumpers and it was as good as new ! I've had parts in the interior knocked loose by careless use of a mini - Mag Lite also . I think I'm just going to have to take a page out of Forest's mama's book on this thread and let it ride . Thankfully , the major portion of the shows have a no touch policy already in place , so in reality , the point is moot ..... Tony B , feeling " bad " about damaging a model during judging doesn't undo the damage , now does it ? Especially , if the individual had that " Do not touch ! " box checked on the sheet . Sooner , rather than later , a model is going to be damaged at your show , and an attack of the " Vapors " is going to be the very least of your club's problems when it does .
