  1. Graingers sells inline moisture and oil traps . I would suggest a regulator and a gauge close to your airbrush hose also for convenience sake .
  2. To answer your question .... Overall the flash is not bad at all , nor are the mold lines . With a little patience and some kit bashing , this kit produces an excellent build .
  3. Sooooo , does this mean that you are limited to what paint mediums that you can use ?
  4. I have owned a Badger 150 for 30 years . That's all I have ever ran through mine . Not doubting your word at all . Quite possibly , the model you are using reacts to lacquer thinner internally .
  5. Testors Gloss Black enamel is a standard for a base coat when using Alclad ...... As for cleaning your airbrush , hardware store variety lacquer thinner works just fine .
  6. You can order Testors Clear Top Coat from Model Empire ....
  7. Well , if you're going to get better at it , you need to educate yourself . First off , realize that the internet doesn't have all the answers even though it is all " free " . Secondly , back check on the individuals that are giving you the "free " advice . Many of those that are giving said advice couldn't glue two engine block halves together without glueing themselves to their workbench in the process .... Modeling is exactly like athletics , you have to work at it , to make yourself better . You need a strong foundation to start out with . Spend your money in the beginning on tools , books , DVDs , etc , not kits . This will ensure a mastery of the basic skills that are needed to produce a quality build . Again you have to work at this , no instant gratification here .... Patience and focus are of the utmost importance . These cannot be taught , they have to be developed by the individual . Cheap always comes back to bite you in the posterior end . Buy quality products and tools , learn to use them and take care of them and they will hold you in good stead for many years to come . The education is out there and yours , should you be willing to pay for it . As of late , it is far cheaper than the cost of one kit . Sadly enough , it seems that most would rather flail around blindly depending on 20 different answers / opinions rather then go with one proven method . The end result is generally a frustrated modeler with a subpar build . Donn Yost Line Wolf Custom Painting
  8. Find another spray bottle that puts out a finer spray ...... Also , spray from a farther distance from the body .
  9. Only if he pulls a bag over his head ....... Lmao ! Xoxoxo to ya , Sixx !
  10. Well , Testors clear top coat will fit the bill . Cut it at a two parts clear to one part cheap laquer thinner ( hardware store variety ) ratio . Continuos mist coat until you have a smooth , glass like finish . Flashout - 2 to 3 days . I've found that Testors semi gloss black works even better as a base coat than the flat .....
  11. Airbrush or spray can ?
  12. Use the Original Dawn Blue , has no additives , will make it squeaky clean and ready for paint . I'd use a toothbrush and warm running water to scrub it down with .....
  13. Once the paint comes off , take a toothbrush and give it a good scrubbing to remove all the residue . Next , you want to scrub it with Original Dawn Blue dish detergent and warm water to remove any brake fluid or paint residue that is left over . Rinse well , and you're ready for paint again .
  14. Ben , Check with JDS Racing .... Joe Cardoza .
  15. Jim , As long as you sand the body overall , you can sand metallics , pearls or candies . Never clearcoat over debris in your base color , it sticks out like a sore thumb as the old adage goes .....
  16. 2004 NNL MidAtlantic show ...... Lyle and his gang put on their usual well run show and as usual , it was very well attended . Late morning , disaster struck when the the AC unit went on the fritz .... By mid afternoon the show room smelled like a barnyard , literally ! It was so obvious that an editorial was written on the conditions in that room soon afterward . Kathie and I encounter it at every single show that we vend at .........
  17. Jacob , Another medium you can play with is pastel chalks . You mentioned sun faded paint , the pastels get you there quick . Don't like the results ? Wash it off and start all over again .
  18. Rich ..... A few more ? Thirsty after playing baseball ? Went to your buddy's house and drank out of the hose . Walked everywhere , even to school up until my junior year . Played in the woods and fields , drank out of fresh water springs , ate fruit from off the trees , gathered it up and took it home to our moms so they could make desserts . Baseball cards , built models , Tarzan swings out over dizzying heights , raced big wheels down steep hills . Cartoons on Saturday till 9 am and then out the door , B/ W TV of coarse . Hunted , fished , camped out , all from the time we were 13 years old and on .... Jumped trains to ride from one town to another as we became older . No seatbelts , no helmets , etc .... How did we ever survive ? Lmao !
  19. Awhile back , one of my models was featured in a magazine . Several days later , a member posted in a thread similar to this one about a certain Mustang , built by a certain modeler , still had the GM label left on the frame . He went further , stating that the spoiler was installed completely wrong . He was correct ..... However , it was done on purpose on a dare / bet proposition due to an incident that had occurred at a contest several months before that we had attended . I did not sand the logo off the Nova Pro street frame that came from the AMT kit for that reason . As for the spoiler ? Off coarse I knew that it was not installed to standards , reason being , because I liked it that way ! As a builder , I owe only one person an explanation , that , would be me ..... The only exception would be a customer who contracts my services . Otherwise , it is my model , my art , my vision , and I owe no one an explanation for said reasons . I have met more than my fair share of ax grinders , those with personal agendas , most being arm chair quarterbacks that couldn't put two engine halves together without glueing themselves to the work table . However , they are experts in the hobby , and feel free to tear down other modelers work . Me ? I contribute to the hobby on a daily business . I did not seek out the recognition as someone suggested , rather it found me . It is my hobby , I strive to build each model better than the last one . After 52 years , I am still learning and pushing the proverbial envelope to become a better modeler . To suggest that anyone "owes" the modeling world on each and every build is ludicrous . I build for me , if it winds your watch , great ! If it doesn't , oh well ..... The bottom line , my hobby , my build , my way !
  20. Dawn Original Blue to be exact !
  21. I really wish that you would do something about that ugly thing that always seems to show up on the roofs of your builds when you photograph them ........ Lmao ! Very nice work , buddy ! The Old Man
  22. I generally stay out of such discussions .... But ... I thoroughly enjoy what Revell has brought to the table over the last few year and look forward to what is to come in the future . That being said , I refuse to allow them to slide on the quality of the chrome that has gone downhill since the release of the '48 Ford . I opened 4 different '57 Fords to find that every one of the rear bumpers had a thick mold line on the right side , ending with a string of chrome about 3/4 of an inch long , still attached to the bumper . The rest of the parts chrome appeared to be blobbed on . After stripping it , I realized why . It was put on thick to cover up mold lines that were extremely obvious . Even the windshield wipers and door handles , tiny as they are , had them ! This same problem holds true with the '62 Vette Gasser kits . I would expect this situation to exist on a kit that has been repopped over several decades of time . A new release , no , I'm sorry , there are no excuses for this , whatsoever . And yes , before someone states the old " we're modelers " saw .... These are new releases , and there is no way on God's green earth that I should have to strip the chrome and redo it , especially for the price that I am paying for said kits . As far as I'm concerned , this is a lack of quality control , plain and simple , and needs to be addressed ......
  23. Painting is merely a method , a series of concise steps to be taken each and every time until it becomes second nature . There is no voodoo involved , unfortunately , old wive tales , misinformation , and a belief that the internet holds all the answers rule the day . Go to oldmansmodels.com and check out exactly how difficult it really is ...... The website will speak for itself along with a method that truly works . Painting is only difficult if you allow it to be so . All you have to do is properly educate yourself . Donn Yost
