  1. Tim Boyd posted that the tooling was altered to make the '63 Nova. I, too, wish the Buick could come back. I have a built up given to me by a fellow model club member for helping him move a few years ago.
  2. Bought myself some presents yesterday- the AMT' 63 Nova wagon with trailer, the '64 Olds 442 hardtop, and the Meng 1/24th scale Ford G.T.
  3. You've been lucky re the cracking. It's a known occurrence with TS-13. Semi odd thing is that TS-13 won't cause TS-65 to crack, and TS-65 won't cause the base color to crack.
  4. Our next show is March 27th, 2022 . I'm surprised that you hadn't heard of our show before this.
  5. Whatever it is, it's to our benefit. I used TS-65 over TS-55 blue once on a '61 Ranchero and it came out great. It's still one of my favorite paint jobs.
  6. Since TS-65 is a gloss coat, you really don't need TS-!3 over it. As a bonus TS-65 doesn't seem to cause the cracking problem that TS-13 can cause.
  7. Went to a toy show in Kalamazoo and got two wheel sets, a Tamiya Mini Cooper and a pair of Flintstone bodies. Then we went to a few hobby shops around the area and bought a couple bottles of paint and a La Ferrari photoetch set. At the final hobby shop stop we caught a 10% off sale so I picked up an Italeri Porsche 911 Cabrio, a Revell BMW Z1 roadster and scored a NuNu McLaren MP4/2C and a BMW M8 GT3. This was the first time I'd seen NuNu kits in a hobby store in this area.
  8. I built one of these several years ago and later tried to separate the body from the chassis. No go on that. Like the saying about the family that prays together- it stays together.
  9. We'll do some tweaking of the tables for the spring show's judged contest. This NNL was the first time for the new layout.
  10. I included that store.
  11. Yes, along with Whistle Stop, P&D, Great Lakes, and the Nankin in Southgate. There's a place on 11 Mile by I-75, too, but that's military centric, no car/ truck stuff except for paint items.
  12. We had about 420 entries in the NNL. That's about what we get most of the time. Yes, we'd like to get at least as big as the old Toledo show. It can be done but it takes participation from the modelling community in the region and maybe beyond. We don't have as large a nearby population base to draw from as NNL East or even the Milwaukee NNL does so we depend on modelers travelling to our show to make it grow.
  13. Last Sunday at our Motor City show I picked up a carbon fiber decal sheet for the Tamiya Mustang GT4, a resin '50 Olds sedan delivery body, a Salvino's '71 Charger, a Hasegawa Nissan CP91, an Aoshima Lexus 400, a Fujimi 250 GTO, and a Tamiya Porsche 956 parts kit. Plus I was gifted a started and very nicely painted Fujimi ( Testor re-box) Mercedes 500SL. And I sold 31 kits from my stash!
  14. We're lucky in the metro Detroit area. I can count 8 hobby shops, 3 Hobby Lobby, 3 Michaels , and a Hobby Town in the metro area all within an hour's drive from my house.
  15. Be careful when using blue painter's tape or regular masking tape. Some are not recommended to be used with lacquers or polyurethanes. Read the inside of the tape roll to be sure.
  16. When I tried that it still came out silver, not chrome.
  17. We do have RMR, Morgan Auto Detail, and and Jimmy Flintstone. We had MCW attend a few years ago and he did quite a bit of business but told us that while he'd love to come back he was full up with business from home and couldn't be at our show any more because of that. I don't know that we ever approached Norm Veber about coming here. I know it would be a good hike for him to come to metro Detroit. We contacted Slixx when our club went to NNL EAST a few years ago and they said that they'd like to come but since our show is always the week after Atlanta it makes it impossible for them to do the turn around. We'd love to have more national vendors attend. Vendors, are you listening? The full size car thing is a subject of constant debate in our club. Some like it, some don't. IMHO one or two cars won't hurt but if we need the space for more vendors we should take it. We ARE getting close to the limit of the room( real cars or not) as far as useable space for vendor tables and still having adequate room for attendee access. We still have to follow the college and fire marshal guidelines for minimum aisle width, too. We hope to fill the void left by the demise of the NNL Nationals. The best way is increased attendance and media coverage.
  18. The cars with body lines like that (prominent edges and creases) need to have their paint jobs covered in a lot of clear to avoid burning through the sharp lines when polishing them. Been there, done that.
  19. My first try would be the Revell '68 or '69 Dart for that interior.
  20. Closest you'll get is 1/18th- a Tamiya McLaren M8A.
  21. Picked up my copy yesterday at my LHS. Glad to get my fix.
  22. Sorry to hear about the impediment to your attendance. See you in the spring, we hope.
  23. One more week until the show! Still only $5 admission and that also covers any entries into the Motor City NNL. That's right- no extra charge to enter models! Bring lots of entries! Show off what you built or are building. We want to see your stuff. if you've never been to our show or it's been well before the pandemic that you came, come see our show. The most vendor tables ever for us and an expanded show area will be waiting for you to experience the largest model-centric show in the region.
  24. Supposed to be the 60s version of women's shorts. The viewing angle makes them look puffier than they were in reality.
