Revell/Model King '57 Ford police cars

Gee, aside from a couple of little flash pockets, mine was actually done pretty well. I was very pleasantly surprised. Charlie Larkin -

Most Swoopy car to you ?
charlie8575 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I never thought of the 1968-69 Specials/Skylarks as "swoopy", more "curvaceous", but they are a nice-looking car, and one I'd like to see in plastic. Charlie Larkin -
I just received this link in my Yahoo! model car group, and I thought it was very cool that Honda is doing this. Apparently, because of the switch to digital "film," a lot of drive-in theatres around the country are in danger of closing- in fact, just about all of them. Honda is willing to donate five of the upgraded projectors to these small businesses- many of which are landmarks, and family-owned enterprises. At $80,000 a pop, these projectors are not cheap, and the revenues simply aren't what they used to be. I'll be hitting a drive-in before the end of this summer now. Perhaps we all should if one is within a convenient distance and do our part. $20-25 for two or three movies for a whole carful of people? Tell me how you lose like that? The voting is here. http://projectdrivein.com/ Charlie Larkin

Most Swoopy car to you ?

Straight out of a 1930s-early '40s cartoon. What a magnificent example of swoopy! Perhaps someday the real car will be found. Charlie Larkin -
I like the color on it. About the only thing I'd have done differently is black-wash those rims a little. I also would've left the scoop off- too big for the car and generally not a fan of those anyway. Charlie Larkin

Some color guides would've been nice, too. This kit is a great start, but a little extra research into the components and decals would've made good really spectacular. Charlie Larkin -

That one really does make me wish someone would come out with a '41 Ford slantback. I guess MSP bought what they could find- all the cars were 2-doors until the 1969 Plymouths according to that site. I actually might see if I can scrounge up another Fleetline and build a copy of the cruiser in black-and-white. I don't know when I'll be building this one- probably soon, I hope. Right now, space is at such a premium, I don't even have room to do some gluing and basic stuff. The first project will be mocking up that siren. I'll be using some tubes and rounds for that; cutting the slots in the tubes will be all kinds of fun. I will take plenty of pictures- and probably with my "new" IS-2, FujiColor Superia and, when appropriate, its magnificent 1:1 macro lens; I shot a picture of one of the flowers outside (I have no idea what kind of flower- I just look at them), and the close-up was something else. Basically, everything Rob said. There's a fairly active modeling community in southern New England, and I know there's at least one model car club somewhere along the shore. Check with the IPMS chapter nearest to you. Great start- keep it coming. Charlie Larkin

Skip- that Nashville exhibit looks like it's well worth the time. I do wish I could make a trip down there to see it. As to the metallic red on the Gullwing- I'm thinking a Ford color of recent production called Redfire might get you in that general range or red, give or take a shade. Chrysler has also introduced a new color called Cherry Red, which is a bit more red, but about the same tone. Charlie Larkin -

That's the picture I remember seeing! I was thinking...siren, yes or no? Well, that answers that. As to the dome, I'm probably going to vacuum-form one out of clear plastic and paint it. There doesn't appear to be a siren on the parts list, nor did I remember seeing one. This leads me to two questions: 1. Could I modify the fender-mounted light to look right? 2. On that subject, does anyone have a picture of the underhood siren? 3. Would any of the parts from either of the Jo-Han Plymouths be acceptable? Charlie Larkin -

Quite true, the Chinese have some of the most stringent Internet restrictions on Earth. The only country that's worse is North Korea and the small African nation whose name escapes me at the moment that actually blocked all TV signals from in or out of the country until about 3-5 years ago. Given his restrictions, he did a pretty darn good job with it. Charlie Larkin -

While I rather doubt anything exists in bottle form, I can say with relative certainty, that either MCW or Scale Finishes can mix you a batch. Charlie Larkin -

Depth: nom. 1/8" Height: Almost exactly 3/8" Width, including Mic: appx. 9/16" It doesn't look like it does, Lee. About the only thing I'm wondering now is what I need to use as a roof-mount siren form MSP. Anyone got any ideas? In a great irony, I'm typing this while watching Kansas City SWAT. Charlie Larkin -
I actually kinda forgot about the '62, as the Electra was the long-wheelbase car. Some years, the wildcat was LWB, some the short wheelbase of the LeSabre. I'll look at the specs for '64 and see what turns up. I'll look at my '62 in-progress. I don't remember if that has an X-frame or not, but I know for fact the Chevy does. As to your dad and photography, my dad loves shooting slides. I'll do them every so often. Dad also enjoy shooting black-and-white, so he can do his own developing. I'm planning on grabbing a roll of his Ilford Delta and heading to the western part of the state- the little towns and their commons are very appropriate when shot in B/W. Dad's slides are usually 120, which are absolutely beautiful. The resolution is incredible and they look beautiful when projected or printed; which he does very occasional (big prints= BIG $$, film or digital), but the results are worth every cent. I actually shot the pictures I used on P. 414 with Dad's Nikon D-something or other DSLR, and to be truthful, I don't really care for it. It's so small, I have trouble handling it well, and to be perfectly frank, it feels very cheaply made. That's one of many reasons I have (aside from a rather intense distrust of all things electronic), that I stick to film. I get a photo newsletter in my e-Mail, which, like everything else in photography now, is quite pro-digital, but even they caution against starting photographers on digital- make them learn film so they learn composition, forethought, and how to use time and resources efficiently. That, and there's something very deeply satisfying about putting your print in the developer bath and watching it come up. Those are things digits can't replace or replace well. Charlie Larkin

CVS, Walgreen's, and Wal-Mart all carry film, as well as good camera shops as a lot of pros still use film, especially black and white, for certain subjects, or at customer request- for example, if they want no electronic record of a photograph for some reason, like confidentiality. Developing can still be done at may CVS stores and Walgreen's, and, again, quite a few camera shops have in-store processing with turnaround anywhere from 1 or two hours to one day. That Ford is a really nice model, Andy. I recommend it. Charlie Larkin

These will do quite nicely. Frankly, any of the archetypical Art Deco cars (Sharknose Graham, Airflow, Cord, Lincoln Zephyr, etc.), are what meet my definition. Charlie Larkin -
Had I not watched this thing come together, I'd swear a lot of the details were real. Charlie Larkin

I've been looking for one of those, myself. I wish someone would break down and do a resin copy of the convertible or the Southampton. Cool color choice, too. Definitely not a common color. I also understand about mirrors, antennae, etc. I won't put them on if I can't find ones that are at least in the ballpark. One could probably get a nice little business supplying mirrors and antennae and concentrating one them. Very nicely done, Al. Charlie Larkin

Nice color choice with the cream and yellow-ochre. Very period-proper. Dominik, your work is fantastic, and I appreciate your taking the time to show it to us. Charlie Larkin

Albie, P-L-E-A-S-E bring this to Classic Plastic, MassCar or both! I love the execution, and I don't like customs as a general rule, but this one is very smooth. I love the color. What is it? As to head/tailights- well, they're called show customs for a reason! Charlie Larkin

Very nice. The narrow-band whites give the look of a well-kept used car from the early-mid 1960s or a nice weekend cruiser with the more modern license plate. I like the colors, too. Charlie Larkin -
What a sharp little car. I have to agree, Ghias are a pretty little car. Who could imagine the Beetle could look so good? Charlie Larkin
