  1. I've used Model Master Acryl on unprimed plastic before and was very pleased with the results. Acryl, incidentally, is the only line of paint I've been able to find that has anything that even comes close to Buick Engine Green, RLM 25 Hellgrun, a German Army color from WW II. Charlie Larkin
  2. Bob, What glue are you using for this? I might be interested in giving this a shot at some point if the new stuff is as rotten as stated here. Charlie Larkin
  3. Here's a good clear picture of a De Soto Hemi DeSoto.org Charlie Larkin
  4. Very cool, and I haven't looked at mine in years, but I remember that picture. What paint did you use to make the maroon interior, it looks absolutely dead-on when thinking of the maroon interior in my mother's Cutlass and a few Caprices I saw new. Charlie Larkin
  5. Where'd you find the Concorde?? Or how did you make it? Nice work. Charlie Larkin
  6. Thanks, Gregg. I only had the '66 specs handy, and figured it carried over. I stand corrected. In that case, make mine Blue Mist with a blue interior. Charlie Larkin
  7. No. The ST-300 was a very strange beast. It combined operating aspects of the Hydra-Matic and Dynaflow into its own little world...there are no shared parts with a Powerglide, and no parts from a DynaFlow or a regular Hydra-Matic will interchange. I have a 1966 Skylark (Auntie's) and have learned this first-hand. Externally, though, I'm guessing they're about the same size, as they're both 2-speed automatics. The trans pans are different; that I do know. I don't have pictures of them handy, but there is a difference. You might be able to simulate it with a little scrap and some time. Charlie Larkin
  8. I like it. Neat concept and nice execution. Anything with an straight six/eight is good as far as I'm concerned. Charlie Larkin
  9. The Olds 400 and 455 are the same block, so that problem is solved. In any event, the diffrence between a small and big-block Olds was only the deck height, and in 1/25, it's invisible once a finished engine is in the car. I believe Drag City was also offering a 68-72 A-body up-top, I'm not sure if he is any longer, but if Ed still has the master, he might be willing to pop one for you. Actually, given the projected popularity of this model, I wouldn't be surprised if it went back into production as a regular offering. Charlie Larkin
  10. Too bad he didn't do the rest of the interior. The Skylark Interior is very different from any of the other A-bodies. Despite that, I'd still buy one. You might want to consider getting a Modelhaus '66 tub, as that will be much, much closer, and modify as needed to get it all to fit. The interior choices were dove (white) or black. The dove interiors had black accents with white seats and door-panels (except the lower panels, which were black carpet. In 1967, you might have been able to order saddle, too, but I'm not sure. For the chassis, the Revell '65 or '67 Malibus would be good, or the AMT '67. The '65 seems to have the nicest chassis of the bunch, with the AMT '67 not too far behind. The Revell '66 Chevelle wagon could be used, but remember, the wagon floor is different. A proper engine and transmission can be found in the AMT 1969 Riviera (Buick big-block; If I recall properly, the TH-400 was available on the GS 400, if not, good luck finding a Super Turbine 300!) Personal color choice: Blue Mist (better known as Marina Blue) with a dove interior. Charlie Larkin
  11. Outstanding! Charlie Larkin
  12. Subjects: American cars, some foreign for a little variety, and I can find anything from any era I like, but I prefer independents, orphans, and Buicks. Kits: AMT and Jo-Han, Revell, Monograms '30s classics and Pyro's 1/32 brass-era kits. Charlie Larkin
  13. All sentiments of glad tidings redoubled. (Can you tell I've been working with/for governmental agencies a while yet?) Charlie Larkin
  14. This is coming out very nicely. Charlie Larkin
  15. On a semi-related note, have you ever thought it strange that a large number of factory 2-tone paint jobs put the darker color on the roof? If it was me, most of the time, I would've asked them to be inverted, or scheduled an appointment with the dealer's body shop for a custom two-tone. Charlie Larkin
  16. Awesome! If you offered copies of your drawings for sale, I can honestly say you'd probably do quite nicely with them. I'll look forward to that Suburban, too. Charlie Larkin
  17. That build reminds me of the car in the brochure. Nice job, Terry. Charlie Larkin
  18. A nice execution of a nice-looking car from the factory. The paint work is astounding. Charlie Larkin
  19. A big, black, chrome-frosted Buick convertible with a red-and-white interior. Mmmmmm, among my favorite varietals of automotive creation. Beautiful job. Charlie Larkin
  20. Effective, indeed. I like the wood-look of the box body. Very, very nicely done. Charlie Larkin
  21. This kit was already VERY high on my "acquire" list. It just went to #1! WOW! And the build looks great, too! Charlie Larkin
  22. Nice job. I'd like to pick up a couple of '60s VWs for dios and such. After all, as we both know being New Englanders, you'd see those things in plenty of places. Charlie Larkin
  23. Bill: 1. Hope you're feeling better. 2. You learned why I've tended to stick to model cars and trains, books and my 1:1 car over women, regardless I'm sorry to hear about what happened. 3. I'm really enjoying this and picking up some good ideas. I'm very glad you did this. 4. To continue beating a dead horse, one of the problems I admit to is no matter how careful I am, I always seem to end up with orange peel. On metallic paints (which, until recently, nobody ever said to me not to polish,) what have you found is an acceptable solution? I've usually used something like Soft-Scrub for doing a light buffing, but I'm looking for the Tamiya fine-grit polishing compound or something like that. Charlie Larkin
  24. Coming out very nicely. The red and white looks nice on those cars. I have one, haven't really decided on colors yet, but I look forward to building it; everyone I know who's built one really liked it. Charlie Larkin
  25. Just as an aside on this, I airbrushed some Tamiya X-18 (s/g black) thinned with 70% alcohol. The alcohol appears to flatten the paint slightly, which isn't a bad thing, as the s/g black is still a little shiny to my eye. For clean-up though, shoot the alcohol. Works beautifully for clearing the airbursh of any acrylic, but you need to do it right then and there or you'll have a major problem on your hands. I did find for another "goof" that Model Master Acryl dried acrylic paint remover works very well, but be careful to follow the directions very, very carefully, or unpleasant occurrences may result.
