  1. That's very impressive. Charlie Larkin
  2. This is a remarkable bit of work, Art. I need to try some brass sometime. I may be doing that sooner than I was anticipating. Charlie Larkin
  3. There was one other thing I was thinking of, that I was told long, long ago by a Mopar-exclusive junkyard when I was shopping around for a project in the exuberance of my youth. It turns out that the Rust Belt was actually one of the slowest-selling areas for the C-body. The vast bulk of them were sold in the south and west, which is one of the reasons so many of the ones left are in decent shape. I remember my dad telling me that even with undercoating, keeping it clean, and all that, a lot of cars around here were rotted out in about 5-7 years, sooner if the owner didn't even try. Charlie Larkin
  4. Correct. Edsel, like Buick, used torque ratings for the numeric parts of their engine designations. The E-475 was a different color, too. I think it was green. Charlie Larkin
  5. Saturday at 8:00 is usually pretty open for me. I can stop in this weekend and see what we can do, and repeat for a few weekends. Anyone else want to join in too, in case I can't make it a week? Charlie Larkin
  6. I have a bunch of parts I really need, and a trans-kit or two I'd like to get. I really hope someone takes over the kits at the very minimum- those are a wonderful, sorely needed addition to the hobby. I will state this publicly- if I thought I had enough money to pull it off, I'd put in an offer and start learning how to cast over the next year. Anyone want to work on some funding with me? Charlie Larkin
  7. That came out very, very nicely. Charlie Larkin
  8. 40, didn't build too much from about 2000-06 because life really got in the way. When everything else fell apart, reading and building became my refuge. Charlie Larkin
  9. What a lovely day today. A little humid, but very nice weather and sun-wise. Charlie Larkin
  10. The New York Attorney General must have some sort of public charity office. This, in my opinion, sounds like failure to live up to fiduciary responsibilities and willful mismanagement. Make a call, you might be very pleasantly surprised at what happens. See if you can get a a few other parents to go along with this, too. One more reason that if I ever con some poor, misguided woman into having children with me (hey, I'm only 40, it might still happen,) they WILL be home-schooled. I trust so little of organized education anymore after years of teaching, that I don't want them near it, unless it's tutoring for something. Charlie Larkin
  11. That narrows it down to a few. It'll be interesting to see what actually comes forth. Charlie Larkin
  12. Nice job, Craig. Charlie Larkin

    VW 411

I haven't seen a real one in at least 25 years. I remember they were very trouble-prone for some reason- weren't these fuel-injected, and that caused most of the trouble? Anyway, very nice build. Charlie Larkin
  14. I have painted Tamiya lacquer directly onto bare plastic, and have had very good results. This is not cleared or polished. Charlie Larkin
  15. One more reason I like my cars old and fairly stupid. $1000 to fix a friggin' ignition lock? Really? What an absolute rip, even allowing for foreign car parts being in orbit to start with. Charlie Larkin
  16. Glad to have you, Rick. Charlie Larkin
  17. I remember your articles well, and thought they were well-researched and well-assembled. They were inspiring in their own way to this high school/college kid. Welcome, George. I look forward to getting to know you and perhaps meeting at NNL-East. Charlie Larkin
  18. I've had that happen, too. I saw suggested someplace that it might not be the worst idea to have a regularly-scheduled chat, say 8:00 P.M. ET-whenever, and the rest is by chance. Charlie Larkin
  19. It was a nice day, that's for sure. After sunrise is supposed to be nice, too. I try to avoid outside, so I open the cellar door, and squirted a little touch-up on my '32 Ford. That might be done before month's end. Charlie Larkin
  20. I have to say, it's not a bad combination at all. Charlie Larkin
  21. No urban myth. Quite real, actually. Good thing, or those guys would've destroyed them all. After seeing a lot of what's gone through those, I have come to advocate for their discontinuance altogether. "Waste" doesn't even begin to describe the results, and the fact that far too many cars that shouldn't be derbied, are. Back to the build- Steve- that's shaping up very nicely. Those hood torsion springs look great. Charlie Larkin
  22. To the point where a lot of derbies banned Imperials. I think a lot of it had to do with rust, as well. Despite using some of the best anti-corrisive measures available, chemistry still hadn't caught up to reality. One thing I've noticed now- lot of cars get real rusty real fast, because of the way they're designed with lots of foam in them for quiet, which also holds moisture, and all the cladding, which traps moisture, and the fact that even though anti-corrosion measures have improved, so has the ice melter, and they're cancelling each other out. Charlie Larkin
  23. G-Body. F-Body= Camaro/Firebird. Charlie Larkin
  24. Thank you! I needed that! Charlie Larkin
